Not sure what is going to happen to Justin Smiley, whether they will just keep him and plug him into the line and pretend nothing happened. If so, our line looks like:
LT Jake Long
LG Justin Smiley, John Jerry? Nate Garner? Donald Thomas?
RG Richie Incognito
RT Vernon Carey
They say that they are going to put John Jerry in the LG spot competing with Garner and Thomas with RG filled by Incognito in case they get rid of Smiley.
HERE'S MY THOUGHT:
I wonder if Andrew Gardner or Lydon Murtha is ready to play RT full time. Is it worth the risk to try them there? With Brandon Marshall at WR, we are going to need better pass blocking even if we have to sacrifice some run-blocking prowess at the RT spot.
IF Gardner or Murtha is capable of holding the fort at RT, I propose moving Vernon Carey to LG. We put John Jerry at RG where he is most comfortable and start him in all of the pre-season games (Incognito doesn't need preseason game experience, less chance for him to headbutt some roster scrub anyway). Put Gardner/Murtha at RT and see if one or both alternating can handle that spot with Joey 6-8 270 Haynos helping out.
Our line would look like:
LT Jake Long, Nate Garner
LG Vernon Carey, Donald Thomas
C Jake Grove, Joe Berger
RG Richie Incognito, John Jerry
RTAndrew Gardner/Lydon Murtha
TE Joey Haynos
With Incognito one headbutt away from a suspension, it would be worth it to have John Jerry ready to step in at a position that he is most familiar with. The left side of our line would be DOMINANT.
If you put Henne in a pistol formation with Ronnie in the Backfield and have Ricky running Wildcat motion to the right, you've got some serious options running right OR running left.
Let's not forget about Mr. Brandon Marshall going downfield either.
