Channing Crowder, our new OLB?
Ok, bear with me here for a second. I have a crazy idea in my head, and I'm basically just putting it to words.
What do you think about moving Channing Crowder to OLB?
I'm sitting here looking at our draft and our UFAs, and I'm seeing a bunch of guys that are considered inside LBs, and I'm wondering, what the hell, I thought OLB was the bigger need?
The FO already showed us that they aren't unwilling to move a player's position, so what if they are also thinking about moving Channing to OLB?
Here's my rationale. Me and my closest football buddy have talked about this plenty of times. Athletically, Channing is a freak. He's extremely agile for his size. His problem comes in the intelligence and instincts department, often getting caught out of position or having trouble reading the play as it develops.
He was most effective at Florida in what I call the "JKTFB LB" position. As the JKTFB LB, a coach puts a player on the field and tells him to Just Kill The F$%&ing Ball!
So what if, just maybe, one of these ILB guys works out, and we move Channing to OLB on passing situations, and just tell him to Murder the QB? No complicated scheme for him to work through, hell, I'm not even asking him to think. I just want to let go of the leash, and let him murder whoever has the ball.
What do you guys think? Am I crazy?
Just a thought.

Crowder is terrible is pass coverage...worse than Wake and he offers less pass rush ability.
Use him as a LOLB and blitz him instead of dropping him into coverage
Jared Odrick 6-5 304 DL & Tim Dobbins 6-1 246 ILB & Koa Misi 6-3 251 LOLB
Brandon Marshall 6-4 230 WR; John Jerry 6-5 328 LG; AJ Edds 6-3 247 LILB
Nolan Carroll 5-11 204 CB & Rashad Jones 6-1 214 S; Chris McCoy 6-3 244 ROLB; Austin Spitler RILB 6-2 243; Pet Cat: Jonathan Amaya 6-0 203 FS
oh i agree
That’s what I’m saying. Don’t let him do anything beyond “See that QB? Kill him.”
Some people try to find things in this game that don't exist but football is only two things - blocking and tackling. ~Vince Lombardi

Actually, it's a typo, I meant to say keep him at LILB and have him blitz instead of cover.
sorry

I personally think he isn't as bad in coverage as we think
Remeber the texan game? He was out and not only were they getting like 12 yards every time they ran the ball, the RBs were open by 5 or more yards in the flats. I don’t remember that being as big of a problem before that game. (yes I know he isn’t that great, but he had no one next to him to take off the pressure). With Dansby next to him, I think a lot of this preconceived notion about Crowder will change or Misi/Edds will take his place.
Can you feel that? Ah...$***!
And, as always, screw the JETS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"mark my words...we will draft/sign 4 new linebackers this off-season" - 2010
1-Sergio Kindle, 2-Nate Allen, 3-Torrell Troup, 4-Brandon Spikes
1-Sergio Kindle, 2-Mount Cody, 3-Major Wright, 4-Brandon Spikes
I initially thought this...
…but I’m actually starting to wonder if Crowder will even be playing 50% of the plays. I’m starting to think they are just gonna use him situationally.

OK
Channing Crowder is a OLB in a 4-3 defense not a 3-4
in the 3-4 you OLB has to rush the passer like a defensive end and drop back in coverage.
Channing Crowder does neither which is why he is a ILB so this isnt the brightest of ideas
Momma Said Knock You Out
thank you DB
his specialty is run stopper. Too slow to get to QB

I'm riding with you Odrick. After all you ARE a Dolphin now! Reshad Jones!
exactly
and i actually think he may be on his way out since we drafted so many LB’s
Momma Said Knock You Out
I hope not...
‘cause when it comes to stopping the run the man does his thing. But hey if we get the same ability out of a quicker player then I’m all for letting him loose. For THE GREATER CAUSE :-)

Kill the ball is differrent from kill the quarterback
Kill the ball is usually more about playing the run and screens and such than it is about getting to the QB.
It’s possible that with Dansby, Crowder can stay inside and fill that role. More possible than he could do it from outside.
crowder remains inside

Crowder's biggest knock for years is that he's not a play maker.
OLBs in a 3-4 need to be a defense’’s biggest play makers.
The Dolphins are back! We've got a new team, we're Super Bowl bound, and they can't touch us!

I feel he still has value to our defense as an instinctive run stopper. I’m all for cutting him loose if he’s outplayed by the young’ns, though

not a TERRIBLE idea, but not something i would do
crowder is a good run-stuffing MLB, but thats all he can do, stop the run
I would rather have someone who can rush the passer effectively at OLB over Crowder

Don't see Crowder at OLB
Have him play the Jim Schwartz role inside: “See ball, get ball”
Touchdown, Ronnie Brown Edition!
Crowder is absolutely horrible at blitzing
He just runs right into the blocker every freakin time. There was a reason we didnt blitz with him. He cant do it. He doesnt have the speed, power or moves to get to the QB. Honestly people he is a backup LB at best
I probably know Judo! How many of you can make the same boast?
i like crowder but i hope someone wins his job......
misi, edds and mccoy are all OLB’s but i think that at least one of them can battle him in OTA’s

WTF?
Why aren’t more of us all for him going ONLY if he’s beaten out by a better player?? Some want to get rid of him just for the hell of it? I don’t watch ALL the games but, when I DO see them Crowder goes out and does his job with passion. Sure, he’s not the fastest and yes he’s not so great in pass coverage but from what i’ve seen Crowder shows great instincts to stop rushing attacks. We bring in new LBs and all of a sudden everyone hates the man. I don’t get that.

Stupid
Hi couldn’t rush from the MLB position. He has no pass rush moves, he was always a second too late, and never made any impact plays. The INT vs. NE this year was a gift. Not the result of good play.
If he gets injured again this year, I put $$ to it that AJ Edds and Dansby are our MLBs never year and Crowder get cut.
