Myron Rolle should be our new safety
This man is so articulate, and an amazing athlete. I would love for Myron to be the quarterback of our defense at FS. Just saw him on ESPN First Take, and he has me sold. I know he only projects to go in the lower half of the draft but he could be a huge steal just by the locker room presence he brings, and how dedicated and able he his to learning. He seems like the type of player every coach wants on their squad.

As a project SS for the future to groom, sure
no chance as a FS, he has 1 int in his college career and less than 15 passes defended. He plays inside the box, and isn’t that great in man coverage
That being said,
If you’ve watched FSU play you’d know that teams throw away from him. Granted, he did play in the box quite a bit but he never seemed to struggle in coverage.
It's 2010 - do the smart thing. Draft Myron Rolle.
I think the Dolphins make a good run at the playoffs this year, but I think next year we at least get to the Conference Championship. Things are looking great.

He didn't struggle in coverage...
But as a FSU fan I will say he was a bit of a disapointment. He never made alot of the splash plays we expected from him. He did play in the box but really didn’t deliver the blows to offense that make guys weary when he’s in the area. IMO he’s good but not great and I certainly wouldn’t lose any sleep if we don’t pick him up.
I like him too as a project

A 4.68 40 is SS speed like Yeremiah Bell. Bell is intercepting now and we need a sharper at FS to create turnovers

Only reason he is as low as he is
Is he’s a year out of football while he went to Oxford for his Rhode’s Scholarship.
He continued to workout and train with the rugby team (though he didn’t play rugby).
Teams are just worried because he wants to be a neurosurgeon when he is done with football, and teams feel like he “deserted” FSU and isn’t committed to football.
Dude is going to be a great safety. Teams just need to get over the fact that he decided to actually follow up on his academics and take the once in a lifetime opportunity to be a Rhodes Scholar.

Very good point
Honestly, I see it as a plus that he’s got a future outside of football. Those are the hardworking guys and they’re used to juggling multiple things. You look at Ricky, who has been saying for a while that he wants to be an osteopathic surgeon after this next year (even though he’s changed that over the past week or so.) No one questions Ricky’s work ethic any more. Everyone knows he’s motivated.

Two words...Pat Haden...it can work

Patrick Capper Haden (born January 23, 1953 in Westbury, New York, United States) is a sportscaster and former professional American football player. A Rhodes scholar, he played quarterback for the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams from 1976 to 1981. Before Haden joined the Rams he played in the World Football League with the Southern California Sun during the 1975 WFL season.

no the reason they don't want him
is he’s already stated he won’t have a long NFL career because he has plans for afterwards, and if he ends up looking like Muhammed Ali because of concussions sustained over a 10 year career, those plans go right out the window. Nobody wants to draft a guy, then have him retire in 5 years…

I haven't heard that.
I know he want’s to go into medicine eventually, but I have never heard him state he won’t have a long NFL career.
Maybe he did, I just haven’t seen it.
Neither have I
All I’ve heard him say is he is committed to football. Yes, he has plans for the furutre, but I’ve never heard him put any sort of timeline on his football career.

I stand corrected
there’s numerous scouting reports to mention how teams may be scared because they believe he’ll have a short career, but Rolle himself hasn’t said anything (that I can find) about it. He has said he wants to play “a decade or so”
HERE is an article from PFT talking about the short career questions
and HERE is an article where Rolle says he wants to play for a decade.
So yeah, it wasn’t from Rolle, but from scouting reports..

I'd prefer playmakers, obviously
But you don’t always NEED playmakers. If you have a playmaker here and there on defense with a bunch of guys who are solid, your defense is going to be awesome. Look at the #1 defense last year (hate to bring it up) but other than Revis, they didn’t really have any stars on their defense besides maybe Kris Jenkins, and he got injured pretty early.
I’d say if we had “solid” play at nose tackle and free safety, we would only need “playmakers” at OLB and then our defense is top-5.
It's 2010 - do the smart thing. Draft Myron Rolle.
I think the Dolphins make a good run at the playoffs this year, but I think next year we at least get to the Conference Championship. Things are looking great.
Well in 7 rounds of picks they are not going to be all playmakers. If we can get a few of both
we are well ahead of the curve.

Perhaps more than squat.
Intelligence is just one quality, but it is not a bad one for a FS to have.
books smarts specifically though
I’m not saying it’s a bad thing, but being able to split an atom isn’t going to help you diagnose an offense.. Rolle isn’t a bookworm though, so it’s a non-issue, but I wouldn’t draft him based on his GPA, but more for his actual Football IQ.

those things are mutually exclusive
one doesn’t help the other. I wouldn’t trust Peyton Manning to perform heart surgery just because he might be the smartest football player to ever wear pads.. It’s a different kind of knowledge. There’s plenty of good football players, who look like geniuses on the field, that are morons in the classroom, and vice versa. All I’m saying is, don’t draft Myron Rolle based on his off-the-field intelligence.

Coaches are actually concerned about that too
I think it’s just part of human nature. As the coaches and executives, you want the brains. It’s kinda how dictatorships try to make their people as brainless as possible…it makes it easier to rule. Kind of a rough example, but it’s mostly true.
To me though, it seems like a dumb thing to keep you from drafting a guy. If someone’s supposed to be your QB of the defense, I’d prefer that he’s able to say his ABC’s and maybe do some arithmetic.

As for football smarts,
I think you judge a safety’s football smarts by how frequently or infrequently he gets beat deep. A safety’s job is usually to play the zone (or a SS plays the run or the zone) and you hope they have a good football IQ to be able to diagnose the play and act accordingly. Obviously if they have a low football IQ there’s a better chance they misdiagnose the play and bite on the playaction or whatever it may be, resulting in getting beaten deep.
My opinion of Myron is that he does have a great football IQ…I can’t recall a single disappointing play he was involved in. Sure, he might not be a “playmaker,” but he was great at playing the Rover position. He was a force against the run and teams didn’t throw his direction as much as you’d expect.
It's 2010 - do the smart thing. Draft Myron Rolle.
I think the Dolphins make a good run at the playoffs this year, but I think next year we at least get to the Conference Championship. Things are looking great.

1/50th of a second speed disqualifies him? 1/5th of a second?
Arguing about 4.59 or 4.61? That’s one-fiftieth of a second - broken down over 40 yards. Only on the most perfectly thrown long ball could that possibly-and it’s a remote possibility—make a difference.
Don’t get me wrong, it would give the receiver a full yard lead on the infamous 2000-yard fly pattern and the backbreaking 3/4 mile underthrow.
More than any other position on the FS is all about being in the right place at the right time and taking the correct angles in pursuit. One caveat is that just like it’s not only about raw speed, it’s not only about raw intelligence. The FS has to be able to think and adjust quickly.
Rolle may or may not be a great FS, but it’s got nothing to do with his 40 times. Clearly, he has the brains in profusion and above-average physical tools. Unless there’s a major flaw there, whatever it may be, chances are he’d be a great addition to the Phins.
As an added plus, he can hone his medical skills reviving Pat White from the dead on the QB keepers.
I think Rolle will be a 3rd or 4th round pick...
I am currently a student at FSU and have watched Myron Rolle play through his entire college career. I think it was Mickey Andrews who said that if Myron would prepare as hard for football that he does for his schoolwork he would have been a great player. Not to take anything away from Myron of course because he was a very solid player but he was not a playmaker. A lot of you are saying that you want a playmaker and Rolle most certainly was not one at FSU. However I got to thinking…
Rolle played a very safe game, he was very good in coverage and a physical player. He just seemed to always be around the ball. He played the rover position while at FSU and I think that he would fit SS in the NFL perfectly. But he only had 1 career interception. I think that was due to the fact that opposing teams tried to stay away from where he was on the field. I think he would be worth the pick if he is available when our selection comes in the 3rd round. He has all the tools you ask for… 6’2’’ 218 lbs very good in coverage, a physical tackler, and extremely intelligent. I think that now that he has nothing else to worry about and he can devote his full attention to football he will make a big stride in his on field performance.
Id say this is probably one of Rolle’s best games in his college career.

I heard him on ESPNews today...
and came away with the same sentiment exactly. He says his fav team is the eagles, I have a feeling he will go there…. but I would love to have his intelligence on our team so he can help our coaches outsmart the pats n jets…plus he’s a south jersey guy so you can’t hate on that either..
Watch the UM vs. FSU game
i dont think youll want to draft any player from either secondary lol
Momma Said Knock You Out
lol not last year
this year, with DVD and Brandon Harris a year older, and Ray Ray Armstrong and Vaughn Telemaque patrolling the safety spots, the Canes have 4 potential NFL players in their secondary lol

If we put of safety until the middle rounds...
I would consider drafting him. I think he has a better chance of succeeding than most of the safeties in that range.
There are no safeties except Berry without major question marks. Given the choice, I’ll pick the smart guy for that position. Good awareness and jump toward the play will give you more of a speed advantage than a slightly better 40 time.
After following the senior bowl, I don’t think it is out of the question that Rolle could overcome his weaknesses.
This
Pretty much sums it up I think. Worst case scenario is you spend your 5th or 6th rounder and he doesn’t pan out. Yeah, picks that late are worth something, but we’re not talking 1st or 2nd rounders here. And anyway, I think he’s a more sure-thing starter (keyword: starter, not superstar) at either FS or SS than any conversion DE/OLB or WR we’d pick up after the first round.
It's 2010 - do the smart thing. Draft Myron Rolle.
I think the Dolphins make a good run at the playoffs this year, but I think next year we at least get to the Conference Championship. Things are looking great.
I would rather get Major Wright.
