Phin Snap: Danieal Manning (FS - Bears RFA)
It seems like slim pickings in the FS market for us unless some wild miracle happens (I think we might be able to land Darren Sharper) but until then I saw this player, Danieal Manning, and he came across as a double option for the Dolphins depth in regards to FS & Kick Return type duties.
The Main aspects that stood out were:
1.) He is an RFA but only has a low-level tender on him, meaning the Bears don't mind him leaving. I believe they would get a 3rd rounder for him, which is kind of a bummer because I like our 3rd round picks.
2.) His Age, he's 27 and has time left to play that position, but he's also played every position in the Secondary because Coach Lovie Smith keeps moving him around.
3.) His stats aren't too shabby, 78-90 tackles on a full season with 1-2 INT a year - See Danieal Manning's Stats
4.) He doesn't seem to fit in with the Bears system but has some years left to play. He's been moved around from corner to FS to SS and should have good knowledge of all positions. The Bears fans don't seem to mind him leaving but feel HIGHLY that he'd serve as a great NICKLE CB.
5.) I'd say it might be worth Mike Nolan taking a look at the guy to see if he could mold him into one of his playmakers.
6.) He also averages 27 to 30 yards a return on his kick return duties, so he'd double up on Special Teams duties.
Phin Snap Wrap:
In closing, I like that he can return kickoffs (leaving GINN fresh) and average 27 to 30 yards a return and he doesn't seem to be fumble prone as well. Then he could provide depth as a Nickle Corner and maybe be molded into a good FS by Mike Nolan and our coaches. The only downside is the 3rd round pick tender on him but is there any other type of pick we could offer instead?
Finally I leave you with a couple plays made by Danieal Manning:
And a kick return (Crappy video is all I could find):
