If it Isnt a Hole Already it Will Be
At one time our runningbacks were the strength of our roster and now its pretty suspect. If someone is willing to give us a first rounder for Ronnie i believe the dolphins would entertain that. With no clear cut returning starter at the position, C.J. Spiller might not sound like a luxury after all.
Ronnie Brown: Is going to turn 29 in December, Is coming off a Lisfranc foot injury, and last but not least hes a Restricted Free Agent. The Dolphins turned down his 5th year option which makes you wonder if they believe he is the long-term option. They say 30 is the magic number for running backs, Will Ronnie's injuries catch up to his age?
Ricky Williams: Even at 32 Ricky plays at a high level, but it was evident once Ronnie went down the load started to take its toll on Ricky, and He was playing with a shoulder injury the last couple games. He will be 33 in May and has stated that he would like to retire in 2010 so clearly he isn't a long-term option.
Patrick Cobbs: Was a versatile player but with Ted Ginn taking over return duties once again i don't see them making another switch. Hes 27 and coming off acl surgery, and it usually takes a year for someone to get back to original form with their knee.
Lex Hilliard: Hes a thumper and at 25 he could have a long term role with the team, but honestly he was only getting carries because Ricky was getting beaten up out there with no relief to take him out. He may have some potential but at this point hes pretty expendable.

Let them take the bait on Ronnie and give us a 1st round pick for him...
Then take the #12 pick and draft CJ Spiller. CJ Spiller. RIcky WIlliams, Patrick Cobbs and Lex Hilliard. Then we take the pick they give us and draft a NT.
Yup
this has basically been my point for drafting Spiller

I'm starting to get there, it's between Berry( If he falls, which isnt likely), Earl Thomas (Which will still be there at the 12th)
and Spiller.

The reason that they tendered him rather than pick up the option
on Ronnie is because is saved them over a million dollars to do so. I highly doubt that anyone gives up a first round pick for Ronnie at this point in his career…meaning that they just saved themselves some money.

Thankfully our FO isn’t as dumb as AJ and will do whats best for the team when the time comes and concerning RB the time is near.

well said
they got absolutely nothing for Tomlinson because they didn’t sell high. We don’t need to make the same mistake. I say if anyone offers a 2nd or better for Ronnie, pull the trigger. Even if he has a great year next season, he’s not a long-term guy, and whoever we draft with the pick we receive for him would be around for the next 7-10 years (assuming we don’t take a huge bust). I think we need to get Spiller, deal Ronnie for the best offer, and then look to find a power back late this year or next year to complement Spiller. Hilliard and Cobbs will never be more than backups, and Ronnie/Ricky are both finished after this season IMO.

Businesswise there are several 2&3 year players
that are already as good as Ronnie is now IMO.
On a personal level it really pisses me off that it is a business because RB is a kid that any Father would be proud of because he’s a super nice guy, leaves every ounce on the field and is a consumate teamate but for a 2nd I have to ship him for the betterment of the team in the future.
It honestly pains me to say that but it is what it is.

I'm with Nicky on this one....
Grab Spiller, and be very very happy.
If Ronnie gets an offer sheet…..let him go…..thank him for his time here in Miami, but also look back at all the money and a high draft pick on a player that broke 1,000 yards ONCE, and only finished a 16 game season…ONCE.
For all that we bust on Ted Ginn for not producing like a #8 pick should….we should be dishing some of that on Ronnie as well for the lack of production he’s had. Yes I know he makes the Wildcat work, Yes, I know he adds a lot of dimensions when he’s actually on the field….and YES I know its sacrilege, …..but, that doesn’t change the fact that its True.
If this post contains no substance, just assume that my answer is Brandon Marshall. Pay the 1st and 3rd, get the proven guy, and don't worry about that position for the next decade.
