Derrick Mason anyone?
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/03/06/derrick-mason-no-longer-a-priority-for-ravens/
As you all know the ravens have acquired Boldin... unfortunately =(
BUT there may be a bright side to this....
Derrick Mason may be available to us now. He was great for a young qb in flacco and could help out henne. If we draft a young wr, he might be a great mentor for him. i know hes not brandon marshall but he would probably be our best receiver if he came to miami.

I really wouldn’t mind Bryant or Mason. They’re both good IMO

Who will win Terrance Cody or Rex Ryan?

This FO pissed away a chance to get Boldin so why not go after Mason and Bryant
I can’t believe that Baltimore got Boldin for a 3rd and a 4th. Are you kidding me! They essentially traded Patrick Turner (3rd round pick) and Brian Hartline (4th round pick) for Anquan frickin Boldin and this FO didn’t think that was a good deal. I’m speechless!
This is what Armando says in his “Miami Dolphins In Depth” article:
You know that I am convinced a team cannot win an NFL championship with second-tier wide receivers and the only reason I believe that is because it’s true.
I would contend that the phins don’t even have 2nd tier WR’s. They have 3rd tier, guys who aren’t even on the rosters of some of the teams in the NFL. I contend it is the biggest hole on the roster and I agree with Armando that NFL Championships cannot be won with this big of a hole at arguably the 2nd most important position on offense. And IMO, this FO just doesn’t get it when it comes to the value of difference making WR’s.
Let's get offensive this offseason!

i dont think last years draft picks are comparable
because then i wouldve traded a second (pat white) and a third

makes more sense to me
to keep what we have and go for a true #1 receiver which AQ is not or he wouldn’t have been traded for a measly 3rd and 4th…..FO made the right call IMO
But who is the "True #1" that the FO is going after?
The best option was Boldin. Right now there is nothing left in FA that is a “True #1”. Mason and Bryant aren’t as good as Boldin, so they aren’t #1’s. I would love it if they drafted Dez Bryant at #12, but it isn’t going to happen because this FO just doesn’t value the position. So who’s left to be that “True #1” WR?
Let's get offensive this offseason!
"It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing." MACBETH
how would I know?
just as I didn’t know they would spend the cash to go after Dansby. I wont pretend to know what the FO plans are, but they obviously didn’t see Aq as the #1 they are looking for.
AQ doesnt have the "ideal" qualities of a #1 wr
but IMO he is one.
this guy has 5 1000 yd season in 7 total seasons
he has 1400+ yd season!!!
he has an 11 TD season!!!
and hes a tough SOB
wow… makes me feel worse that we didnt get him

Absolutely Correct!
And the Phins wouldn’t trade the equivalent of Turner and Hartline to get him!

Really
you take another draft from another year, and this non-trade doesn’t seem nearly as bad as you make it seem. Nice sample size.

Which Dolphins Draft Would You Want To Use?
2009 – Turner & Hartline
2008 – Kendall Langford & Sean Murphy
2007 – Lorenzo Booker & Paul Soliai
2006 – Derek Hagan & Joseph Toledo
2005 – Channing Crowder & Travis Daniels
Is that a better sample size? There is only one player that I would be upset losing of those listed above, and that is Langford. But I still would trade him and anyone else on that list for Boldin in a heartbeat.
Let's get offensive this offseason!
"It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing." MACBETH
Actually, no. You can't use drafts from other front offices man
And you also can’t think that you can judge the 2009 draft and how productive those two WRs will ultimately be after one season.
This argument won’t have a “winner” until the season plays out, so nobody should be getting upset until that happens. This draft is far too deep for this to be an apples-to-apples comparison, and it then comes down to opinion anyway. I just don’t think Boldin will be what he’s hyped up to be for longer than another couple of seasons at best (if that), and why give up future value in terms of longevity for a couple of seasons of a 30-year-old WR?
Either way, agree to disagree.

good points and can't deny he's a beast
except for the fact that he was on a pass-only offense minded team with Fitz to compliment him.
or......
fitz took away boldin’s catches. imagine if boldin was the #1 in that offense!!!
lol im just messin… i get your point. we will just have to see how he does in baltimore.
but still brings us back to the point that he would be a dramatic improvement.

Another point: Why do you want the Phins to keep the current WR's on the roster?
They are not very good. None of them. What WR on the Phins plays for Ind or NO? Or for that matter: Min, SD, Hou, Phi, NE, Pit, GB, Ari, Dal, Atl just to name some off the top of my head. No Phins WR is in the top 3 WR’s on any of those rosters. Face it, the Phins WR are no better than 4th or 5th WR’s on most teams in the NFL. That is what Armando meant by 2nd tier WR’s. That’s what they are.
Let's get offensive this offseason!
"It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing." MACBETH
Uh but we can put up 20+ points in a game with second-tier WRs and a 30-year-old RB, and a first-year starting QB?

True, every word of it
but in today’s NFL, 20+ points a game isn’t good enough. If you want home field advantage in the playoffs. If you want to compete for a Championship, you need to be in the 27+ points per game range. Especially if you are going to be middle of the road defensively.
And I will give you more ammunition against this. I believe that the Phins will be better offensively in ‘10 with its current roster. Better schedule, more maturity, etc. They may even make the playoffs. But they will be bounced early. Why, because they won’t be able to threaten a good defense. Who will D-Coordinators game plan around? Camarillo? Hartline? They won’t. They will stack the box, make the Phins one dimensional and limit their scoring to 17 pts or less. And that doesn’t win in the playoffs.
Let's get offensive this offseason!
"It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing." MACBETH
But see, that's what the Jets tried to do to us in our first matchup last season
It’s not that easy to make our offense one-dimensional now that we have a QB who can throw for chunk yardage. When our top RBs are healthy, you just can’t stack against their versatility and talent. Davone Bess will become more Welker-like, and you can’t make the Pats one-dimensional (that is, running only).
And that’s why I think those who clamored that getting Dansby is nothing, that we screwed up for not getting one of the available WRs, are ridiculous for thinking so. We won’t be middle of the road defensively, I can almost guarantee that.
Mike Nolan has an Elvis Dumervil here, he had a secondary almost built by players who left our system, he had a deep but not “loaded” (in terms of big name players) front seven. Look what he did for them. We have young talent who will absolutely blossom this offseason, not to mention the depth of pass-rushing and all-around solid outside linebackers this season. That, and three nose tackles worth drafting in the first three rounds (Dan Williams, Cam Thomas, Linval Johnson).
Our defense will be set. And as you said, our offense will improve by means of experience, maturity, development. Chad Henne alone, with an additional year to develop under Lee and with Pennington returning, will be able to make up for the lack of talent we may be perceived to have at WR. Even if only slightly, he will help in that sense. Do people game plan around Wes Welker? Yes. I don’t think Bess will be so far away in this, his third season. Hartline is explosive enough to pick up 20-yarders if Bess is being doubled. We may stall, but our second offense (the defense) comes on the field if that happens.
And, we still haven’t even seen the last of FA or the draft.

lol
That’s the idea. Let’s knock the front office down a few pegs because they (unlike the other 31 franchises in this league) make a few mistakes in a draft. Tell me, why is it that only two teams were listed as front-running suitors for this deal? Why is it that division rival New England, who, like us, just witnessed highway robbery in the Jets’ Cromartie deal and are short one of the best receivers in the league with an ACL, went from supposed front-runners to non-parties? They have 762 second round picks, and they wouldn’t give up a third and a fourth for Boldin. Why is that?

I thought Boldin would have been a good add
but i am lukewarm on Mason. He is solid, but I think I would rather not have him take development time away from our young guys. i would love to see a lot of Bess, Hartline, and Turner this season. And still crossing my fingers that Pruitt turns into something good.
