and The Daily Dolphin.
Well, at least he's straight and to the point. What does this mean for the prospect of Antrel Rolle arriving in Miami, or how the front office feels about Chris Clemons and Tyrone Culver? This is very interesting to say the least, specifically after Jeff Ireland defended Gibril just last week. Mike Nolan strikes again.

We all had to of seen this coming. Thank God. Gibril got his guarantee money last year and he had no other benifit to the team. Other than competition in training camp. I don't think Rolle is worth the money.
I say Keep Clemons & Culver and see what we have in those guys. We shouldn’t waste an early round pick on a safety unless we have more than one in one of the earlier rounds.

I like Thomas too,
but we have glaring needs in other positions. Plus Clemons is a hard hittin speed demon. Lets see what another year can do for this kid.
As much as I like Eric Berry and Earl Thomas
I hope they do not use a draft pick on a safety. Releasing Wilson puts Safety at the top of needs and with OLB, MLB and DT as other needs the draft is going to be difficult to get starts for all four. I wish they waited to see if they sign Dansby, but hopefully this is saying that they are confident they will.
I honestly hope they feel Chris Clemons can fill in or that Rolle signs with the Fins, because they are now worse off then last year.

I will tell you
The fins had some one with starting experience, some one who knew the system and a Player that has had some really great years in previous season. With that said I am not saying it is a given Gibril can get back to his form with NYG. But I was convinced he would be better then 2009. I am nervous on Rolle, there was a report earlier this week showing stats that showed Gibril was better % wise then Rolle in coverage, but stats can be misleading.
In 2009 Wilson had two rookie corners to worry about, a new system, and was out of position. Not to mention he still needed to develop chemistry and confidence with the defensive units. My thoughts was Gibril was thinking too much and not reacting or playing on instincts, which is what a starter needs to do to make it in this league. If he was worried about covering up the rookies botched coverage or misreads, he was out of position for where he needed. He was trying to be in to many places at once. Add to that a decline in run support he then had to worry on stoping the run!
Adding a rookie into the mix can be iffy cause who knows what they can bring, and I don’t rate Rolle as a big upgrade to Wilson. 1) he will be in a new enviroment, learning a new system and team 2) He is a converted corner, and still learning all the reads at FS.
Plus who knows if Rolle is signed by the Fins, then their screwed. Cutting a starter even if he was a lower tier starter adds now another need. ILB, OLB, DT, WR and now FS are positions where starters are needed, and if Rolle and Dansby do not sign the Fins will be in bad shape.

But I don’t think he had as many one on one tackles resulting in TD’s as you think. I feel that we as fans think he did much worse then he really did, and think he missed more. Just as we didn’t think Henne throw down feild a lot, when in truth he did more than we thought, but not as many were complete.
As a FS he is the last line of defense, so granted he should make the tackles, but there should not be many 1 on 1 tackles to save a TD for a FS. That means others did not do their job.

Going to FL for vacation.
This is great news… Rolle next stop Miami..
My wife and I are headed to FL next week for 10 days. We are mainly staying in Ft. Myers. But will be traveling to Marco, Miami and Key Largo.
Can anyone suggest cool points of interest in those areas. Restaurants or good beaches.

I say that we still get Atogwe and

He might be a good fix,
but I still think Atogwe is a better option. He’s 2 years younger than Clark and has 19 interceptions and 14 forced fumbles in only 5 seasons compared to Clark who has 8 interceptions and 3 forced fumbles in 8 seasons.
I think getting a free safety who is a ballhawk is much better than a free safety who makes a lot of tackles. Besides, isn’t the free safety supposed to be more pass coverage and cause turnovers while the strong safety is the run stopper who gets lots of tackles?

Well isnt it a valid point to say...
That knowing how the Trifecta works and doesn’t spend money if there is a cheaper option, that it is more likely we could see Clark or Atogwe as a Dolphin than Rolle?

But the Phins aren’t going to offer him anywhere near eight million a year. The Mort and Shecter are saying that the Giants are more than happy to pay him the eight million or closer to that figure than the dolphins.
I “think” the dolphins offered him a 3-4 year contract at about six million. Don’t quote me on that, it’s all rumor. Anyway, I wouldn’t mind going after Atogwe. Moneywise he’s much more cheaper since we just have to match. And, I wouldn’t mind letting Clemons prove he’s worth this season.
yea if the Trifecta can get Atogwe or Clark for cheaper....

What Wilson release shows
That Miami is all but sure that they will sign Rolle. The fact that they have pursued and offered Rolle a contract that is close to what he wanted shows that they do not feel that they see Clemons or Culver as Wilson’s replacement. The fact that they have pursued Rolle at the offer that they did shows that they don’t expect to draft Berry nor Thomas at #12, which would expect them to be starters from day one.
No, the offer to Rolle, coupled with Wilson’s release shows that they have released Wilson to either free up more money to be able to up the offer, should they need to for Rolle and/or to show Rolle that they mean business with him being the starter at FS.
Also, being that they didn’t ‘have’ to release Wilson yet, shows that what they have talked with Rolle’s agent all but ensures them that Wilson has already decided who he will choose. Miami.

I think the release of Wilson shows they will address the issue at FS, it does not necessarily mean we absolutely will sign Rolle.
To me there are options out there in Atogwe and Clark that are cheaper than Rolle and therefore better for the Dolphins

I dunno that it is all but sure they'll sign Rolle...
but they must either a) feel pretty darn good about it and/or b) have a good plan B in place should A fail to happen.
You’d expect them to release Wilson after, not before signing Rolle.

Well, we would have to sign CP10 first,
and I don’t think that necessarily means that one is definitely going to be traded. They might keep Thiggy as #2 and CP10 as #3 and move Pat White to another roster spot, like list him as receiver or something, but still bring him in for Wildcat plays now and then. I think a couple other teams do similar stuff with their Wildcat triggerman.

Well, since CP will have a 'no trade' clause in his contract, the third option is out.
But I would have to say that the second option is what they would probably do, except having Thiggy at #2 and having CP at #3 instead.

Ok, well
first off, if we do not sign CP then we cannot trade him as he is an unrestricted free agent and we don’t have any hold on him at all unless we sign him. As for the #3 QB thing, he has already said that he would not mind being the 3rd string QB here.

he can at least do a pretty good imitation of an NFL QB as witnessed by his KC time, unlike pat white who looks none the part.

ha ha, so much for Wilson and his defenders/apologists.
This after a mere one season here.
The alarming thing is that the same group of guys who are getting rid of him today, signed him to the biggest FA deal we handed out last year.
It does give pause for thought as to how well they are doing with big FA signings. In each of the last 2 years, their biggest FA signings (wilford and Gerbil) have both been incredible busts.
Can anyone (off the top of their head) recall Parcells track record with FA signings with the ‘Boys & Jets & Giants? Excluding TO which we know was JJ’s baby.

A few things...
first, yes I do accept paypal.
second, nah not all busts by any stretch. Grove was solid, wake has promise, and they signed CP during one of his healthy years (in his ever present alternating state of health & injury).
I guess the track record is they do fine with most of their signings but seem to whiff at the ones they’ve thrown the most money at.
again as far as I have heard...
as of 1pm Dansby has not arrived in Miami yet

to add to that, assuming he is flying to Miami.....
from Arizona, there is the 3-hour time difference to look at here
For Dansby to get into Miami at 9am EDT, he would have to leave Arizona at like 3am or maybe even earlier. Think of how long the flight is from Arizona to Miami and then add in the 3-hour time difference.
He may not still be in Miami yet

I have to say that Gerbil Wilson's last 2 years are pretty incredible...
Consider the following:
2008 – signs 6-year $39 million dollar contract with $16m in guarantees
Gets cut at end of season
2009 – signs 5-year $27.5m contract with $8m in guarantees
Gets cut at end of season.
Bank Account: $24m in guarantees pocketed despite getting cut 2 consecutive seasons.
Maybe we are the rodents and Gerbil is the genius for making that much jingle as well as fools of a couple of NFL teams…
