With the Rams low-balling their pro-bowl free safety Oshiomogho Atogwe's contract, did Parcells and Ireland hear an acorn fall? This team loves to use the term acorn for unexpected-but-good scenarios that unfold. Is Atogwe one of those scenarios? Ireland may have mentioned he intended on keeping Wilson, but did he ever think Atogwe would be available for no draft pick compensation? Does that change anything?
Atogwe, while coming off a season-ending injury, has been regarded for the last couple years as one of the best young free safeties in the game. He would be a better player than Rolle of the U, who has expressed an interest in Miami.
So do you think Miami jumps at the chance to sign Atogwe after it has Dansby sign on the dotted line early tomorrow morning? (You don't actually think Parcells will let him leave town without a contract, do you?)
Dansby and Atogwe instantly upgrade a Miami D and allows the team to be opportunistic with the draft, and gives Nolan more toys to play with--and allows him to use Wake as a one-trick pony who can wreak havoc on the quarterback in passing situations while bringing him along slowly as a full-time starter.
