Oshiomogho?

Where is this kid on our FA list? We missed out on both of our safeties that we tried to sign and failed. This is a true free safety and fits our needs much better then both rolle and clark, so why haven't we approached him. He has the lowest tender on him and St.Louis has said they probably wont sign him back. I mean we free all of this cash up on Joey and Gibril getting cut and have only spent it on one player, now I'm no mathematician but I know for a fact with an uncapped year we should be spending a little more then that.

Heres what I say we have left to do this free angency

Sign Oshiomogo and Javon Walker

Draft 1. Dan Williams 2. Jerry Hughes 3. Demyarius Thomas 4. Garrett Graham 5. Lagarette Blount 6. Demarcus Granger

O.J. Atogwe

Atogwe is recovering from shoulder surgery. He becomes a F/A June 1st. You are correct he would fit our defense perfectly. Magic your also right he will cost us at least $6.5 Million per year to sign him. So if we don’t draft a FS before the Third we might make a run at O.J. Atogwe.

why does he become a f/a so much latter?

He's a RFA currently. If he doesn't sign his tender offer from the Rams he becomes a FA on June 1st.

Well actually

They would have to release him or pay him something crazy like 8 mil

Actually they would have to pay him $7 Mil. Based on the 110% rule.

i would rather sign sharper to be honest

Atogwe is the better long term answer, but he’s more expensive and i believe we will let clemons and a top 4 pick in this year’s draft be our new safety tandem of the future. Sharper still has 1-2 years of great coverage and playmaking ability and will be nothing short of a mentor for clemons and possibly earl thomas or whoever we draft.

You can't be serious!

Atogwe solves all problems short and long term. Signing him is a much better solution than Sharper. I’ll give it to him he had a great season in ‘09, but I wouldn’t expect him to reeapt that level of play in 2010.

lol but i am

he’s expensive. look atogwe is great and i would love him on our squad; he’s better than what we have now. But i think Sharper would be better just to sign for a year and get Clemons/ Earl Thomas lead the future

I think the reason they haven't done anything

(or for that matter, NO team has done anything), is because as soon as a team comes to terms with him on an acceptable contract, the Rams will just swoop in and match. The Rams are just waiting for another team to hammer our the contract. It’s actually pretty smart if you are intended to renegotiate a contract to keep the player anyhow.

Agree. Also seems like Sharper is in the same boat. He just had knee surgery and the Saints will just match what ever he gets.

Your Right the 110% applies to the Rams. Not us if we make an offer.

The Rams paid him $6.3 mil last year. They have to pay roughly $7mil this year. Low tender is bait for another team to offer him less money. $6mil or less and all they have to do is match within 7 day of that offer. All offers have to be in before April 15 I believe then the Rams have to tender him an offer.

I would pay him $6-$7mil and remind him there is no income tax in FL.

It’s funny how A. Rolle took a deal in NY for roughly $37mil for 5yrs. I think I read our offer to him was a 5yr. $32 mil. It’s close to a wash when you look at tax rate I believe. No wonder Rolle owes money to the IRS. By the way I’ve wanted to get O.J. ever since the Rams put the Right of Refusal tender on him.

I agree but these guys see the total amount of the contract as some level of respect.

Sort of where to I rank against the other guy. Stupid way to look at it but its how it is.

Oh its sad. Thats why its refreshing to see what JT did last year.

I am sure he could have gotten more money from some other team but he put his love of Miami and more importantly his family before the money.

Sorry

but St. Louis definitely wants him back. No one has offered anything because they know St. Louis will match it instantly. Out of respect, the other teams are leaving him alone so St. Louis won’t have to pay a fortune in a bidding war they will ultimately win.

I completely disagree with your assessment

I think they fully intend to keep him, but want to get the FA competition out of the way. Otherwise, they will just have to pay him big for a one year deal, and then still have to deal with re-signing him as a FA next year.

By doing it this way, they let him gauge the market for his services, and then just come in and match whatever multi-year deal he gets. BUT, they have the advantage of creating limited interest in him right now (vs. next year when he is a full on FA), so that they aren’t competing for him in an all out bidding war. It’s actually pretty smart.

However, there is a downside for the Rams. If he does not sign an offer sheet from another team by April 15th, his rights revert to the Rams. In other words, he is no longer a RFA. Good thing, right? Maybe not. The Rams would now have until June 1st to work out a long term deal with him on their own.

If they can’t get that done, they have two choices. They can give him a qualifying offer of 110% of his 2009 salary (which would be ~7M), for the 2010 season by June 1st OR let him become an unrestricted FA. The Rams would rather work out a long term deal that pays him less and locks him up for 5-6 years, but they can still pay him and keep him for one more year.

Another team coming in right now with a long term deal would actually help the Rams a quite a bit, because it would force a deal without competition. The speculation is that, if they can’t get him signed to a long term deal by June 1st, they will let him walk rather than pay him 7M for one season. If that happens, he can sign with any team.
