I like the positives they give about Bess on here
A very fast specimen. Blessed with great hands, he can make catches all over the field. A decent route runner that can fool defenders with surprising shiftiness.

He was definatly blessed with great hands.

Hartline is the man

Being a rookie last year, he didn’t get a whole lot of playing time at the beginning of the season. We’ve only seen a slight glimpse of what he is going to be able to do as he gets more time. Pro bowl next year? I think it is a great possibility.

Come on man... you know better than to argue # of catches...

According to that criterion, Bess is better than Desean Jackson, Vincent Jackson, Marques Colston, etc. etc.

Yes, Bess was the #1 WR on the Fins squad last season, in terms of overall yards produced. No disagreement.
But the man above stated:

He has to be the best WR on our roster right now.

Hartline came in as a rookie and contributed more TDs than any other WR – despite starting the season as the #4 WR behind Ginn, Cammy, and Bess. Oh, and Hartline was better rushing, contributing another TD with an avg. of 7.3yds/carry on 4 attempts. Ginn had 6.9/carry on 7 attempts and zero TDs.

Hartline was also clearly the best deep threat we had on the roster last season, with a 16.3 yds/c average, compared to Ginn @ 11.9.

Here are the comparisons:

Hartline
No. – Yd – y/c – – TD Fum
31 - 506 - 16.3 - - 3 – 0

Bess
No. – Yd – y/c – – TD Fum
76 - 758 – 10.0 - - 2 - - 3

Ginn
No. – Yd – y/c – – TD Fum
38 - 454 – 11.9 - - 1 - - 0

Camarillo
No. – Yd – y/c – – TD Fum
50 - 552 – 11.0 - - 0 - - 0

Of ALL WRs in the league, who recorded 20 or more catches last season, only 10 have a better per catch average.

Considering it was his rookie season, and the fact that he did not start getting more playing time until the second half of the season, I think it is fair to look at what he accomplished last year and conclude that (excluding unknowns like Turner or Pruitt, or a draft pick) Hartline is the best WR we have on the roster right now.

Oh yeah, and what did Bess do his rookie season, with Captain Dinkandunk at the helm?
No. – Yd – y/c – – TD Fum
54 - 554 – 10.3 - - 1 - - 1

just sayin…

Hartline is the best WR on the roster. He started to show it more and more as the season wore on. I like him starting with Bess in the slot.

Yeah.

The thing about Hartline is that he needs to build his body up a bit and add maybe 10-15 lbs of muscle he can be that big-physical player in the mold of Antuan Boldin. The guy is truly a football player in every sense of the word. Probably my favorite player on the Dolphins right now.

he plays pretty fast

He ran a 4.49 at his Pro Day and a 4.53 at the combine. He’s not slow. And with guys like that, sometimes you and muscle and can carry the pads better, so you don’t lose much on the field.

good to know

I thought the guy played pretty good last year. Is it possible that we are not going to go after a receiver and that we have the ingredients for a solid receiving corps. More time with Henne at the helm will help.

pretty much, unless he develops into a "Miles Austin"

which is possible, but will probably take another year or two if it happens.
And it’s always possible that one of the other guys on the roster will step up this year, like Turner or Pruitt.
what do you think?

I still don't expect much out of either Pruitt or Turner

I think they (and Grice-Mullen) have a shot to take out Camarillo or Ginn, but Hartline and Bess will still be the best recievers (sans a #1) at the end of the season.

Hartline is going to be one heck of a WR for a long long time barring the "i" word

I have last season DVRd and I watch games over and over and some of the adjustments he makes while the ball is in the air or to give Henne more space to throw is really amazing to me,especially for a rook.

Sparano says that Hartline “gets it” and the more you see of him the more obvious it is…I see leaps and bounds out of him because he is definetly QB friendly.

by firedanhenningnow on Mar 21, 2010 4:46 AM EDT up reply actions

hahahaha, Jackson, Jackson and Colston are your e.g.s to Hartline???

Wow Lefty, thats some weak sauce bro, lol, all with at least 62 catches 1000yds and 9 TDs, their numbers prove their worth, those are horrible examples to start your argument with, you gettin sloppy in your old age bro, lol.

The rest of this will be answered in post form Lefty my friend, you got me going, lol, you are the master and I bow down to your ability, I needed a reason to write a post and you gave me one, your my own personal Jesus man, lol.

by LeftCoastFinFan on Mar 22, 2010 11:36 AM EDT up reply actions

LOL, wishful thinking,

you brought up those three players to say that if I say that Bess is better based on the fact that he caught more passes then Hartline, then hes better than these guys too, which is saying that they equate, that is a bad comparison and doesn’t work, sorry Lefty.

Comparing 76 to 31 is not the same as 76 to 62, 68 or 70, so they do not equate.

So, like I was saying,……weak sauce, lol.

by uncle finster on Mar 22, 2010 2:35 PM EDT up reply actions

Well it's about damn time!

i brought up those 3 players to say your logic was faulty. i am saying that “IF what you are proposing is valid, THEN what you say above would be true”… which I do NOT agree with.

IF you are just saying Bess is better because he caught more balls, THEN that would make Bess also better than Jackson, Jackson, and Colston, which I think is a ridiculous proposition.

There is nothing about it that says that Hartline is better than those guys. you are adding that on your own, without merit in the logic of such an inference.

The statement is simply that it is, as you say, “weak sauce” to simply state that Bess is better than Hartline because he caught more passes.

-LCFF

by LeftCoastFinFan on Mar 22, 2010 3:03 PM EDT up reply actions

The "facts" are that Hartline contributed twice as many points as Bess

and was more of a downfield threat. He also had over 3x less fumbles. THOSE are facts, and they certainly don’t support your opinion that Bess is the better WR.
=)

-LCFF

by LeftCoastFinFan on Mar 22, 2010 3:07 PM EDT up reply actions

But Bess caught over twice as many as Hartline,

did Bess catch twice as many as those three, no, yet you used them to try to make your point, again that is a bad example, since you are inferring that less receptions = less receptions, that 14 less receptions equates to 45 less receptions, and that just doesn’t wash.

You can certainly make a strong case, practically iron clad, that having 45 more receptions then a guy with 31 makes him a better WR, those numbers speak for themselves, but as I said I’m doing a post, my argument will be there, see you there Lefty.

by uncle finster on Mar 22, 2010 9:37 PM EDT up reply actions

I think Incognito really changes the outlook of the TEs

Very few plays seemed to be catered towards them, with them being used in blocking situations. Haynos sorta came alive in the redzone for a few games until he had to go back to blocking. I’d really like to see any of them get out more, otherwise drafting another TE is a complete waste.
