Charlie Whitehurst for what? How does this impact the value of Tyler Thigpen?
The Seahawks traded their 40th overall pick plus their 3rd rounder in 2011 to the Chargers for Charlie Whitehurst and the Chargers 60th overall pick. I personally think the Seahawks made a big mistake since Whitehurst was a RFA tendered at the 3rd round level. It would be one thing if they signed him to a team friendly contract but the guy got 10 million over two years. Did the Seahawks really think the Chargers would match that if they had just signed him instead of trading for him? Doesn't make sense to me but what do I know, they're the ones running one of 32 NFL teams and I'm blogging.
What I do know is that Tyler Thigpen looked good at the end of the year. He looked good when he played for KC. Those were regular season games and Whitehurst hasn't even throw a pass in a regular season game. He might look good but there's no telling how someone will react at the highest level.
This must impact Thigpen's value in some way. With Pennington resigned and Pat White still developing we do have a logjam at the position. I'm curious what the majority thinks Thigpen is worth taking the Whitehurst deal into consideration.

They won't get better than a third
Miami could probably get a third rounder from Buffalo for him, but the Trifecta is really high on Thigpen and they are unlikely to trade him to a division rival. My original mock draft back at the beginning of February had us making the trade for a fourth rounder from Buffalo but that isn’t going to happen based on this deal and the QB musical chairs that Cleveland has been playing.
It’s well known that there are only 3 QBs that teams are looking at right now in the draft. Bradford and Clausen will go in the top ten picks and Jacksonville will likely snag Tebow in the 2nd or 3rd, but that leaves a lot of teams needing a young QB to start come September. This draft is so thin at QB that most of the top 10 rated guys are expected to be career backups at best. Somebody will look to Colt McCoy and Tony Pike as potential future answers but they will still want a QB for this coming season and that is not to be found in the draft.
More and more teams are going to be looking for QBs so Miami will be shopping both Thigpen and Pennington to see what they can get in return. The best offer will probly be taken but what that offer will be remains to be seen.

There's a fine line between hopeful and desperate. Just look @ Jets fans.
I doubt they trade that high of a pick for a QB
They believe in Moore and they have other holes to fill (a gaping one at DE)
I think a 4th or maybe a 3rd...
is the best we can hope for.
The thing with Whitehurst is that he’s never really played, save for preseason. So in the eternal optimism of the ubiquitous ‘backup QB’ who has only played pretend games (re: preseason), people are looking at pure potential and perhaps overlooking obvious flaws which come out over an extended period.
I think with Thigpen, there’s enough tape on him to get a much better sense of his game since he was a starter for a period.
But part of this goes back to Seattle and its unique history. Remember they got Hasselback, who was Favre’s backup in GB, in the same fashion. Like whitehurst, he hadn’t played save for preseason.
I think they are basically looking to play the same card and hope for the same result.
Me? I’m not so sure it will work out.
i dont think hell get traded
The team will want to keep him as a backup bec chad p is still rehabing his shoulder and they wont know how good he is

I think he won't be traded
Miami looks really well set at QB, and I don’t see the Trifecta risking that happy status. If, and it’s a big if, some team were willing to offer a 2nd rounder, they might make the deal, but I don’t see anything less being worthwhile.
I think they could reasonably get a 3rd for thiggy.
My guess is that Thiggy goes on the block during draft day.

Charlie Whitehurst is terrible.
Thigpen’s value just skyrocketed.

Hey, didn't some team give up a 2nd rounder for a 3rd-string QB named A. J. Feeley?
Oh wait, that was us…nevermind :)
1st: Earl Thomas S; 2nd: Lamarr Houston NT/DE; 3rd: Linval Joseph NT; 4th: Adrian Tracy OLB; 6A: Crezdon Butler CB; 6B: Deji Karim RB; 6C: Stevenson Sylvester ILB; 7A: Jameson Konz TE; 7B: Scott Long WR; UDFA: Bobby Sewall WR;
if were lucky we could get a 4th for him
i doubt that tho. this front office has been over hyping thigpen to increase his trade value. nobody has taken the bait yet so i guess hes a solid #2

you crazy
everyone knows he is our 4th string QB and we wont want to keep him on the roster taking up room. his value is a 6th round pick, however we will prolly dump him for a 2011 conditional (5th-7th rd)
whitehurst > thigpen
At least that’s what the Seahawks think. They traded down 20 spots this year and gave up a 3rd round pick next year. I think if they offered the same/similar deal for Thigpen (their #40 for our #73 and no conditional 2011 pick) we would have taken it but they didn’t so they must think Whitehurst has more upside.
3 is optimal
someone desperate might reach with a two, but that’s unlikely
