Plan A-Plan B (updated)

This FO is the type that prepares for everything.  It bothers me when I see fans who feel we're not in the best possible situation right now.  By the time camp rolls around this roster will have been flipped over since 2008 with quality players who act as a team.

These guys aren't going to release starters from 2009 without knowing they're covered one way or another.  After the jump I'd like to take a look at some of their options for the holes.

Star-divide

I'm no draft scout so we've all seen the options at WR, TE, NT, OLB, and FS so I'll be focusing on Plan B since Plan A can be assumed as the draft.  Since everything can't be answered at once it's safe to assume they might have to go in one of these directions(or something similar) after the draft.

WR

We all know Brandon Marshall can be had, San Diego is talking with Vincent Jackson and Dallas isn't letting go of Miles Austin.  If we exit the draft without addressing WR early and Brandon Marshall is still out there then things could get interesting.  Let me say I have been against acquiring him and I still am.  I will say that Denver may get desperate and Marshall might understand that he'll need to play out the tender with his new team or take less money.  Either way if this lasts past the draft and Denver drops the price to a 2nd then I think I might do it since the pick would be in 2011.  As long as the money was protected or if he played under the tender.

TE

I've got a feeling the draft is Plan B for the Dolphins at TE.  That or they feel good about the position, better then any of us.  I like Anthony Fasano but I'm not sure he's the answer.  The remaining Free Agents aren't anything to look twice at.  I get the feeling that with four picks in the first four rounds plus compensatory pick(s) that TE is the least of their concerns.  Basically if they want an upgrade it's in the draft at this point.

NT

Shaun Rogers name has floated around but that's starting to seem like an annual event.  Mike Nolan brought Ronald Fields with him from San Francisco.  Denver just signed Jamal Williams.  I suppose that could make Fields expendable for the right price.  Once again a case where if all goes right for us that we could give up a 2011 pick.

OLB

The beauty of Jason Taylor is his patience.  I'm curious if he's still working out at the team facility since I thought you had to be under contract to do that.  Either way he's out there and should be there after the draft if the need is still there for us.

FS

O.J. Atogwe is still out there and should be under his current status until June 1st.  At that point that Rams must decide to either pay him about 7 million or let him walk.  Right now they have a right of first refusal and I'm sure the 29 y/o wants to walk since they've rumored to have offered him good money.  If the Dolphins aren't content then they can always go for O.J. a little over a month after the draft.

Others

The Eagles released Shaun Andrews today.  He's similar to Incognito in that he's not reaching his potential.  He has depression and back problems but he was also stuck in a garbage contract in Philly.  My point is if he wants to play then take a contract similar to Incognito and prove your worth.  I wouldn't mind having him.  I remember being disappointed when Philly moved up for him and Minny stole our fourth for us to move up one spot to take Vernon Carey.  Crazy how that ended up working out for us.

Thanks sonnycrocket for bringing this to my attention.  If you don't want to waste your time watching this idiot then don't bother watching.  He's rapping a song called "get my michael phelps on" in reference to smoking weed.

Nice write up sir! Rec'd!

I think we address TE in the draft for sure and I think resigning JT is a no-brainer. JT still has some gas in the tank and even as a backup would contribute to this team.

It surprises me that they don't just sign him

I wonder if there’s a gap in the money or something else. Either way I get the feeling that since he’s not signed yet that they really plan on making OLB a top priority and drafting two of them. Even with one, Cam Wake should provide what JT is looking to do.

The good thing is that no one else seems to be showing interest or he’s not listening.

I think they are waiting till after the draft but why not just sign him now?

Hes still great as at least a back up which he has said he would do. I think he wants to be in Miami because of his family.

It's gotta be money or they can't guarantee him the snaps he's looking for

I know he said he’d backup which was the original plan last year but look how that turned out. I want to say that I recently saw that he was looking for a two year deal but I’m not positive.

I’m sure he’s looking for playing time incentives in the case that he plays more than expected.

Just sign him. Give him what he wants.

I would like to see us....

1. Sign either OJ Atogwe or Darren Sharper. I don’t care which at this point but we need to take care of a hole that was left when we cut Gibril Wilson(although some would argue that hole was already there). I think Chris Clemons could be the long term answer but it would be great to have someone to mentor him along into the player he could be.

2. Draft a NT in the first round. We signed Jason Ferguson who although he is suspended for the first 8 regular season games can still participate in the offseason program and maybe mentor our rookie NT and help him take over.

3. Draft a SOLB in round 2 to compliment Cameron Wake as the WOLB. We also need to resign JT for veteran leadership in that group. JT still has it, and he is still a playmaker. He can still show our OLBs a thing or 2 and be productive as a rotational player.

4. Draft the best WR available in round 3 or pick up (I can’t believe I am saying this) Terrell Owens to mentor our young receivers. I think he showed some maturity last year (although he always behaves the first year right?) If we have a shot at Brandon Marshall for a 2nd round pick I say we need to jump all over that.

5. Draft a TE(maybe Jimmy Graham) to compete for the starting TE role.

T.O. wouldn't be a good mentor because if he does

it will take away from his catches, since the guys around him a getting better.

Derrick Mason would be though because he’s a TEAM player, like CP10.

5) now i’ve been saying ever sence i herd about the Bengalsletting my great nefue dangle on a wire sorta speak, we might also look into the fact that cinn.is not gonna pay the leauge minium for there (TE. JP FOSCHI) pick this kid up FO. everyone kno’s how pass happy the bangals are. well Foschi had 27 reception’s the most by any TE on the team sumone need to lookin to this.
p.s. The bengals don’t want to pay him the $800.000.oo he’s asking (tough kid) just look at the tape’s henne & jon become fast friend’s!

no to shawn andrews

i live in philly and have been following the eagles for almost 2 decades, shawn andrews doesn’t want to play football, the eagles even brought in his brother stacey to help get his act in gear and it still didn’t work, shawn has been on several leaves from the team for personal reasons and has been using the time to goof around at home making youtube videos rapping about michael phelps(look it up lol) and too busy tweeting and not keeping the team up to date with his treatment. he even just dissappears from practice and goes home for days on end, i wouldn’t bother with him even as a backup at a minimum, his teammates were even throwing him under the bus fand he’s lost everyone’s trust on the team.
if were going to draft our future safety in the draft anyway, why dont we give darren sharper a 1 yr deal, its a win-win, either darren captains the young secondary or he turns out to be too old and our drafted safety steps in, geesh we gave gibril wilson a brinks truck full of cash but we cant take a flyer on sharper?
Taylor should be back just for the depth alone, i want to have fresh rotating bodies in our front seven. our tight ends dont scare anybody, id like to see a pass catching te taken in the draft.
