At some point, this gets a little frustrating...
You'll have to excuse my negativity, but I am starting to get a little annoyed with the direction of our football team. Of course, winning is the ultimate cure but the verdict is still out of this coming year. Despite having fewer wins last season than the previous year, Coach Sparano thinks this team is "closer" to where they need to be. At the end of the day, however, we were a 7-9 team which was a tremendous disappointment.
So what have we done to address this? Hmmm let's see. The Dansby signing was good. The Mike Nolan can only be good. But we cut Joey Porter. We cut Gibril Wilson. We cut Akin Ayodele. It seems like we have quite a few gaping holes. We need a Free Safety. Badly. The Front Office, unwilling to pay the dollars, lost out to what would have been a major upgrade in either Antrel Rolle and Ryan Clark. We also sat on the sidelines and watched Baltimore scoop up Anquan Boldin. Our Nose Tackle is out for 8 games which all but opens up the middle of our defense, unless we grab a top flight DT in the draft - adding yet another gaping hole and pressing need. As much of a pain in the ass Porter was/is, we need to replace his production. He is a talented player and his departure creates another gaping hole. Oh yeah, how's our #1 Receiver thing going?
In many ways, I respect the way the Steelers and Colts for example, build through the draft year after year. Our team has some of the brightest football minds in the business, so I trust what this Front Office will do when it comes to the draft. But in some ways, the draft can also be a major crap shoot. I just hope that we can address all of these needs: FS, DT, OLB, WR, TE, etc. in the draft alone. That's a daunting task for any Front Office - even the best in the business.
I have been a Diehard Dolphins fan my entire life. I trust this Front Office/Coaching Staff as much, if not more, than any that has preceded them. However, these recent swing and misses in Free Agency has made me a little irritated. To top it off, I live in NY. I keep reading headlines about the Jets picking up more and more key pieces (ie LT, Cromartie). This team was 20 minutes away from the Super Bowl last year and it seems they aren't wasting anytime in confidentally filling their needs. In fact, rumor has it, the Jets are in the Brandon Marshall sweepstakes as well. What's even more frustrating is we SWEPT these guys last year!!!! So what are we doing to compete with our AFC East rival this offseason? What are we doing to keep pace with an up and coming Jets team and a perennial power in the Pats? We're hosting Richie Incognito this weekend. Sigh...

To be fair...
…this past season was more of a regression to where you should have been two seasons ago.
Wake can play, your corners can play, your offense can click (who was the Patriots’ #1 receiver when they won their Super Bowls? Exactly.) and you’re still just a few players away from being right up there with the Patriots. Losing your NT was something unforeseeable by your FO- it would be unfair to place the blame upon their shoulders. You guys need to address:
Safety, NT and WR. Everything else, while they would be nice, is just for depth. Lucky for you guys, this is a solid draft to start working with. Yeah, Porter will have to be replaced. This is the deepest OLB/DE draft in a LONG time. You need WRs- luckily, after Bryant, all the WRs are pretty much the same and should be available well into the 3rd round. Which means you can grab your safety in the 2nd round. Perfect!

I agree with this post 100%……we have a lot of work to do….this is going to be a long season unless we can get some proven talent on this team….teams like the colts, steelers, etc have great organizations because there rookies arent expected to jump in and be the man immediately….they have enough proven talent so they are allowed to groom their rookies…we cant expect to be contenders with rookies or very unproven players…i am all for building through the draft…but we must get proven talent now

we cant have everything...
Dansby and nolan are great for miami. WR wise, we are in need, but its not like we have a terrible receiving corp.
We are a young team, that aims to be like the Colts, Steelers, etc.
Be patient, it’ll work out… LT isn’t anything great for the Jets either

I don't know where to start
First off compared to what this team was when they took over in 2008 compared to now is “closer”. In fact “closer” is an understatement compared to the talent on that team.
Joey Porter? Overpaid, over the hill and out the door. You should complain if he was still on the team at this point.
Gibril Wilson? Oh no, they swung and missed on him and Wilford. Once again you should be upset if this guy was still here.
Akin Ayodele? Was making a little more then he should have been but his age showed last year. He was a solid investment for the last two years and proved his purpose in transitioning into the Parcells 3-4. Once again a player you should be upset about if he was still here.
I hear what your saying about Boldin but lets pause for a moment and really think about the compensation. The fifth that Baltimore got in return with Boldin is the 26th pick in that round. Now keep in mind as well that the NFL hasn’t given out compensatory picks yet so that pick goes back by the addition of picks at the end of round 3 and 4. It’s basically a 6th rounder.
Baltimore sent the 24th in the 3rd and the 25th in the 4th which will also be impacted by compensatory picks coming at the end of the 3rd.
Miami has the 10th pick in the 3rd round. For us to complain we need to realize that there were 13 other teams between us and Baltimore that also decided not to trade for him and to me that speaks volumes. The 10th pick in the 3rd is a high pick that I’m sure this team is excited to use.
The whole point of having a FO like this is to hit on a higher percentage and miss on a lower percentage. You’re never going to avoid misses and if you really look at the roster as a whole you’ll see how many players they’ve actually acquired in such a short period of time.
Screw the Jets, Cromartie is a turd and LT is over the hill. Oh I almost forgot that Ryan Clark isn’t a spring chicken either and Rolle was drastically overpaid.
The difference between Brandon Marshall and Richie Incognito is that on a Monday they could sign both and on the following Tuesday they could severe ties with Incognito without thinking twice. Marshall would become the highest paid player on the team, we’d lose pick(s) and it would ruin the team if he had to be released. Another difference is their records on file with the police, not the NFL.
Go get Suh if at all possible.

I meant to also say...
I could see having these issues after the draft but right now everyone is a long way from being ready. They’re far from done so why complain when we’re two seasons removed from 1-15?

Let’s do a thought experiment: Suppose Chad Pennington doesn’t fall into our laps in 2008.
We go 5-11 or worse with a rookie QB
The next year we underachieve against a rugged schedule and go 7-9
I’d say that was improvement/seasoning of rookies.
We just would have missed out on a AFC East Championship and the great story of
Chad Pennington sticking it to the Jets and Brett Farve doing the same…on the same field at the same time
1st: Earl Thomas S; 2nd: Lamarr Houston NT/DE; 3rd: Linval Joseph NT; 4th: Adrian Tracy OLB; 6A: Stevenson Sylvester ILB; 6B: Jameson Konz TE; 6C: Scott Long WR; 7A: Thomas Austin G/C; 7B: TBD;

At this point in LT’s career, I would much rather see him with the Jets than Thomas Jones. Jones was more of a threat to us than LT can be in the next 2 years. Besides he will be backing up Shon Greene. As far as Rolle is concerned, he was way overpaid and if we did sign him for that amount of money, we would look like idiots. Lastly, I was never really a fan of Clarks seeing as he wasnt much of an upgrade over Wilson. Anyone is gonna look talented playing next to Polamalu. To be honest, I think dropping Gibril was a mistake. I mean he wasnt great by any means, and not even really that good, but we dont have anyone with close to his experience to fill the FS gap. I think with a new DC and LBs that can pressure the QB, Gibril might have been halfway decent.

If Marshall ends up in NY we are done in the AFCE race for the next 5 years.
Henne is the QB of the Miami Dolphins. Good.
Trade Brown? Are you smoking crack?
Hartline will be the Dolphins #2 for years to come. Kid has IT
We need this pass D to STEP THE F UP and do what they get paid to do!
We dont need a 30+ receiver we need younger, Bowe or Marshall will do fine
