Franchise Players

So, I was wondering: who are the Dolphins' most important players right now? I had one major criteria:

Likely to stay with team for long term (Four years or more)

Note: I'm not counting Dansby because two good, young corners are more important than a very good inside linebacker (only a few cases are exceptions).

Chad Henne, QB: The franchise QB. Stepped in ably for Pennington and has shown enough to be trusted with the offense. I have high hopes for him.

Lousaka Polite, FB: Without him, we don't have anything near the running game we had last season or the season before.

Jake Long, LT: Henne's blindside man and already a very good player. Still has room to grow.

Vontae Davis, CB: The first half of our CB duo, Davis is the more aggressive of the two. A developing cover man and pretty good tackler, he'll be in Miami for a long time.

Sean Smith, CB: The other half of our CB duo, Smith is the quieter of the two. He struggled a little bit, but he'll be a very good corner in the near future. Height helps.

He is a "franchise player"

unfortunately I don’t consider him “our” franchise player because, though he is a Dolphin (and hopefully will retire one when all is said and done), he wasn’t drafted by us and didn’t develop under us. I know that doesn’t dictate fitting the umbrella of the term, but it just taints it.

Let’s just say its nice to have options for a franchise player. A few years ago after 1-15 season, i went to florida and saw th billboards for the dolphins advertise the new image of miami—- it was the trifecta… not one player on it.

Now we have Henne, Ronnie, Dansby, etc to be the image of the franchise
