Fins 7-Round Live Mock Draft Results; Rounds 1 & 2

Over at MockingTheDraft, I began yet another 7-Round live mock draft between myself and 31 other SBnation members representing their respective teams. I represented our beloved Miami Dolphins. Here are the results of the 1st two rounds:

#12- Earl Thomas (FS, Texas)

With Berry, Haden, Spiller, and Dan Williams all off the board before my pick, I was left with two options, trade back in the round to add a few extra picks and take and rush linebacker, or take the best player available that fills one of our 4 greatest needs (NT, OLB, FS, WR). I could not find a trade partner so I went with the latter. Earl Thomas not only fills one of our biggest needs, but he was also the best player left on my board. He should be able to start immediately in our secondary and be a huge (much needed) playmaker for the Fins for years to come.

#41 (from Buffalo)- Terrence Cody (NT, Alabama)

I decided to move up a few picks in the 2nd round to secure a NT (I gave up one of our three 6th round picks). Terrence Cody is a beast of a man. He'll clog up the middle of Miami's D and give Dansby, Wake and the rest of our LB's space to make plays. Much needed.

I'm thinking about Koa Misi from Utah in the 3rd.

Should I go Misi or Brandon LaFell next?

Perhaps also Jason Worilds from VT

he might not have many sacks, but 32 QB hurries and 11 TFL (granted he’s mostly a pass rusher and some would argue we have that in Wake)

Im not a big fan of Worlids.

For me, the two best OLB’s left are Misi and Jermaine Cunningham from Florida. I was thinking however of maybe trading back in the 3rd and adding a 5th. That’s my best case senario. Hopefully Misi will still be around then if I traded back in the 3rd. I really want Jimmy Graham! Mancrush!!! :)

Awesome .... the best of both worlds ...

If we can get Cody in the 2nd round I am all for it of course… Dan Williams will get picked up by either Denver or Buffalo(I have even heard Jacksonville is looking at him as a 4-3 tackle) before we get to pick at 12.
I don’t know that Cody will be there in round 2 though … especially if he is down to 340 like he said he would… maybe we can do something like that and move up ahead of Buffalo in the 2nd round to get him… I can’t believe they traded with you knowing that you were probably going after the only true NT in this year’s draft. I think if we don’t jump up(maybe we can trade one of our 2 6th round picks to do it, they will pick him up in the 2nd round(if they didn’t grab Dan Williams in round 1.

Ya I know! I think he really wanted that 6th round pick. I was willing to give one up knowing I still had 2 6th's and 2 7th's.

I think we could wait for Dexter Davis from ASU...

and be good at OLB, we have greater needs elsewhere.

OLBer

should be the next pick. Seeing how this went seems OLBer might be the better choice round 1 seeing some decent FS are left

This is best first two rounds of your drafts, just looking at it looks like value of OLBer/FS in 3rd/4th rounds would be at FS thats all

No thanks. I there are tons of solid RB's still left on the board.

I’m going to fill our 4 major needs first before I take a 3rd down back. RB is not a major need. Besides, by the looks of it, McCluster might slip into the 5th or 6th round as no one appears to be interested in an undersized gimmick back with a 4.60 40 time. Not saying I’m not interested. I like McCluster, just not in the 3rd round. After Pat White last year, no more gimmick picks before the 5th. Lol

Nice Mock

I’m leaning towards a Draft along the lines of.

1. D. Morgan, OLB
2. T. Cody, NT. I don’t think Cody makes it to the 2nd though. Cam Thomas, NT
3. R. Jones, FS
4. J. Graham, TE

This would be the draft if it was held today. With no more FA pickups and No draft day trades.

Had Ryan Clark signed with us, the 1st two picks would be much easier!

I agree. I just see more depth at FS in the draft.

Believe me I go back and forth on which way to go. This is the best draft class I’ve seen in years. We almost all agree that we need holes filled at NT,OLB,FS,WR, and depth at TE/O-Line. I think B. Parcells and company will get their Linebacker this year. I know D. Morgan is looked at as 4-3 DE, but, if you watch tape on this kid I see a D. Ware type guy. NT has to be addressed in the first two rounds in my opinion. I’m hoping we sign O.J. Atogwe. We will have to wait until after Apr.15 and then June 1st before we can sign him though. If Berry is there at #12 we take him and run.

Can we all try to cum together jointly!

1) Mike iupati
2) Cam Thomas
3) Major Wright
4) Andre Roberts
% says Thaddeus Gibson
6) Ricky Sapp
6) Jeff Byers

by wild zion beaver on Mar 14, 2010 3:28 PM EDT reply actions

Mike Iupati

It seems the FO is trying to get O-line depth in FA. Before we signed Jake Grove last year I was all for Drafting Alex Mack. All the other pick are solid Beav. This is going to be a great draft in my opinion. Ricky Sapp will probably go a little higher than the 6th. Just a thought.

by FinFanFromCA on Mar 14, 2010 3:47 PM EDT up reply actions

Mike Iupati? Really? I mean, I know he's the best OG in the draft by a wide margin. But OG is not a major need compared to WR/NT/OLB/FS.

I think Donald Thomas did a serviceable job and I would be ok with him starting again next year.

Also, Ricky Sapp will never fall down that far. He’s a 3rd-4th round prospect.

Nice Work. Rec'd

I love the Earl Thomas pick
I would have stayed put and taken Cam Thomas instead of Terrence Cody.
Actually, I think I like Linval Joseph even better than both of those.
My advice would be go for Koa Misi in the Third Round and see if you can wait into the fourth round for Jimmy Graham…it is just a mock after all…

1st: Earl Thomas S; 2nd: Lamarr Houston NT/DE; 3rd: Ricky Sapp OLB; 4th: Emmanuel Sanders WR; 6A: Stevenson Sylvester ILB; 6B: Jameson Konz TE; 6C: Scott Long WR; 7A: Thomas Austin G/C; 7B: DeMarcus Granger NT;

Love it

My ideal first two picks, I think OLB Cam Wakes work ethic will have him where we need him in no time.

3rd pick I like OL help or OLB, I think next yr is the time to load up on offensive weapons.

that's if they all live up to expectations

or even come out. AJ Green and Julio Jones are both going to be Juniors, and Jones had a worse sophomore year than his freshmen year. Many of the other big-name prospects in next year’s class are juniors as well, including my current favorite LaRon Byrd (homer pick, I know, but he looks like an Andre Johnson clone in that orange and green). I’m not saying it’s gonna be a terrible class or a great class, because it has potential to be both. Just saying don’t count your chickens before they become stud WR’s.. or something.
