Dez Bryant is looking ever so likely

The Broncos who own the 11th pick in the draft can really determine who we end up with. One prospect you can factor out is dan williams because the broncos signed former charger jamal williams to play nose tackle but now breaking news has occured. The broncos have released Andre Davis their starting inside linebacker so now they will enter the draft having a need at lb so if mcclain does  makes it past the top ten it wont be long until they scoop him up and with all this brandon marshall talk it was almost certain the would take a reciever but now with this release things will go differently

I like Dez

But what does everyone think of Jacoby Ford. Don’t know much about him, but he is fast

Jacoby Ford has very good "TRACK" speed but his 4.2 doesnt translate to the field

and like tony said not really polished as a reciever now speaking of clemson Cj Spillers 4.2 actually does translate and he an all around back

If Denver has Marshall draft day, unless a trade happens no way they take Dez.

Again I just posted this in another fanpost…no reason to not give up a first for Marshall and go after Dez, makes no sense, Dez is not proven and has a chance (a slight one) of being a bust, marshall is proven to be top tier talent in the league and is only 25

by tonyy on Mar 11, 2010 5:14 PM EST reply actions

every player has a chance of being a bust and yes marshall is proven but dont you think its rather

odd when the guy who drafted you (mike shanahan)doesnt want to give you a long term contract and the new guy(josh mcfaniels) does the same

Shanahan is reported to have some interest...but Washington needs to use their #1

on a QB. Plain and simple.

Both of Marshall’s Receiving coaches are now in Seattle….and shocker, where was the first place he visited?

If this post contains no substance, just assume that my answer is Brandon Marshall. Pay the 1st and 3rd, get the proven guy, and don't worry about that position for the next decade.

by Fr8Train on Mar 11, 2010 5:45 PM EST up reply actions

Whoa buddy why would shannahan wait till he was in washington to show interest in

marshall shannahan had marshall as a player and still didnt want to commit longterm and just like seattle those teams are rebuilding and desperate but if it was that easy seattle wouldve signed him when he visited

Unless Seattle knows ....

that Denver has already screwed this relationship up with Marshall by the way they’ve handled him under McDaniels…

Seattle could very well be hoping to get a trade worked out for less than a 1st, which very well could end up happening. I could see a 2nd this year, and a 4th next year.

alright now your your just day dreaming marshall is availible for a first

there is no way in hell denver gives him up for anything else your just creating scenarios that would never materialize a 2nd and a 4th please thats a bargin. And this isnt just a mcdaniels thing do you understand mcdaniels inherited him from shanahan and im pretty sure he was informed as to why marshall wasnt signed with that regime

Really? He may be tendered with a 1st

but that doesn’t mean they will NOT take less. All a tender means is that if you sign the player to an offer sheet, it has to be at least a first rounder in compensation. That does not mean the team won’t trade away the player for the less, or in some cases more. (Think Wes Welker. We tendered him for a 2nd, and traded him for a 2nd and 7th).

Keep in mind that all of Marshall’s former coaches, have inquired about his services. Washington won’t trade for him because they need the pick to replace a QB, Seattle (where Marshall’s other 2 coaches in Denver are) was the first team to fly him in.

It seems to me, all of his coaches WANT him, except for his current one.

Washington "insiders" were quoted

several times as saying that Shanahan had a definite interest in bringing Marshall over, but they had to address the QB situation.

And again…. Name a single trade in HISTORY, where a team allowed an elite player to be traded, and didn’t receive a high compensation draft pick in that year…. name one. You can’t, because its never happened. Teams don’t trade Top 5 talent for a pick the following year. Its absurd to even think it……

You need to get past that, because you can’t trade a player for hopes and dreams.

You also said

Name a single trade in HISTORY, where a team allowed an elite player to be traded, and didn’t receive a high compensation draft pick in that year

so your trying to tell me that washington and seattle want B Marshall so bad but wouldnt be willing to give up a “2nd rounder” for him
just because they show intrest doesnt mean they want him if the best reciever in the leauge was available for only one first round pick all 32 teams would be jumping on that… why arent they? because clearly he has some off the field issues that would make someone think twice about commiting long term.

ummm, you proved my point. Thank you.
Name a single trade in HISTORY, where a team allowed an elite player to be traded, and didn’t receive a high compensation draft pick in that year

In the Cutler Trade – Denver got a 1st rnd pick the same year they traded him….as well as the subsequent years. So that example doesn’t work at all…..if they hadn’t gotten anything that year, and then only got a pick this year…then it would. But they got a QB in Orton, PLUS a 1st rounder last year, PLUS a 1st rounder this year….

Hey that not the point you said:Seattle could very well be hoping to get a trade worked out for less than a 1st, which very well could end up happening. I could see a 2nd this year, and a 4th next year.

What does one have to do with the other? a 2nd round pick is a High Round pick and high compensation…. Maybe they will still offer a 2nd rounder for him this year along with compensation next year. We don’t know.
The fact that all of his coaches have made it known they have interest, should tell you more than anything. I’m willing to bet he ends up in Washington or more likely Seattle (as they have more draft picks) before the draft is over.

And when it happens, you can lay back and enjoy the warmth of my knowledge, and wish you had the same.

If this post contains no substance, just assume that my answer is Brandon Marshall. Pay the 1st and 3rd, get the proven guy, and don't worry about that position for the next decade.

by Fr8Train on Mar 12, 2010 5:01 PM EST up reply actions

Man what the hell

a 2nd round pick for arguably the best reciever in the leauge is not high compensation. high compensation would be a first and a third round pick buddy.

and showing intrest dont mean squat the bengals showed intrest in TO but let him walk the next day. im sure washington and seattle would love to have marshall on there team as would any other team in the leauge but nobody is willing to give him that big long term contract with his instability off the field.

Denver is just tempting the leauge by tendering marshall only a first round pick and still nobody taken up the offer not saying it wont happen but that should tell you that hes a buyer beware.

and to further solidify my point imagine if calvin johnson was available for only a first round pick..a team would trade for him the same day and pay him that big contract without even blinking

I think you'll be surprised...

We shall see.

And a 2nd round pick (along with another pick the following year) is high compensation. Especially when you take into account the fact that EVERYONE in the league knows the relationship between Marshall, McDaniels and the Broncos very well might not be able to be repaired.

You may see people trying to drop the market on him. We don’t know.

Maybe he didn't want to sign Marshall to a leong term deal

because Shanahan knew he would come back and try to get Marshall when he did come back. If he signed him to a long term deal there would have been no way he could have got him besides paying up big ( Draft picks).

But to say that means we’ll pick Dez Bryant? How do you figure?

What makes him, in your opinion as the author of this fanpost, any more likely than say….Kindle, JPP, Earl Thomas, CJ SPiller, or any of the other candidates for that pick at 12

According to you...

he’s a top 10 talent, but then I suppose that’s enough to write up a fanpost….

There’s hardly a consensus on Bryant being a top 10 talent although there one in that this is a relatively weak class of receivers with next year’s group being much better.

by Natalya on Mar 11, 2010 9:40 PM EST up reply actions

Exactly....

He didn’t play for an entire year…..so we really don’t know what he’s like on the field.
Many players aren’t the same player after more than a year off. Especially in the Receiver position.

Dez may be able to run routes without a DB jamming and bumping him off his route, but its a completely different story once you line up on an NFL field…..especially after not playing for a year.

Deuce its pretty simple...

Why extended a guy who is two years into the league…Teams want to see their players honoring their contracts, and if they over perform they will be rewarded when they are free agents or when they are within a year atleast. Why would a team want to spend an extra 6 million when they know they have this guy anyway. Maybe they wanted to see Brandon grow up and stay out of trouble before hand. I truly believe that his problems stem to the murder trial of Darrent Williams and he just wants a fresh slate. Do I think South Beach is the best place to be to do that? NO…but people come to our team for the same reason we don’t want them here and question their motives…it comes with the territory.

Bottome Line I think with the right coaches in his ear and the players supporting him that he’ll hopefully stay in line and a guy with the amount of respect Parcells demands could truly keep him in line. His talent is unquestionable and his ability to help us win games is as obvious to me as it is to everyone. Put Henne with him and he easily throws for 3,500 next season and the running game would open up. To pay him 6 mil a year with incentives is fine for me but for Parcells to not even try kills me knowing we need that big time receiver. Hell we even have Marino and Zach Thomas, two Dolphin greats telling them they need a top receiver. I’m tired of them just holding this priority off like its not important. See how much better Fasano Bess Ginn and Hartline would be…i’m just hoping they are waiting for his value to go down and get the broncos eager to trade him and possibly deal our 2nd and a player for him..

check this out...........

Remember last year when everyone was talking about the red flags on Vontae, some analyst say he wouldn’t make it in the 1st round and would likely be a 2nd round pick because of his character issues and, his ability to not beable to show up for games mentally!! or turn his play making abilities on and off. Alot of teams passed on him because of red flags, and whats Vontae doing doing now, showing the teams that passed up on him F’d up look at the saints they’re probably regretting getting Jenkins…. Vontae was the ultimate steal in the draft at corner. So you can shun Bryant all you want that doesn’t mean the Trifecta won’t get him, and since Vontae has been here has he been in trouble? Nope, he’s changed his ways. Whats to say we draft Bryant and he does the same and comes in and contributes to the team, then all you bastards will jump ship like nothing happened………

40 times

I can’t believe how many fans still get all caught up in these 40 times. I’ve been following the draft for many years, and I believe putting too much stock in them is really fool’s gold. These guys train specifically to run good 40’s, more often than not it has little to do with how they play football. The classic example is Ted Ginn, he’s run in the 4.2s but have you ever seen a so-called "fast"guy play so slow. He had a total of 53 yards after catch last year, that’s pathetic. The reason he appears to play slow is because of his lack of courage and his uncertainty of routes and his responsibilities for making adjustments on the run. On the other hand, did you realize Jerry Rice only ran a 4.65 at his combine. Which player would you want? Did you ever see Rice get caught from behind? Michael Irvin was in that range as well, I’d sure take him over Ginn too! The point is watch guys on film, see how physical they are, see how they get separation using their strength and their bodies. See how fearless they are running their routes, especially over the middle. Are they smart enough to recognize blitz adjustments to their routes. If it’s a corner is he good at jamming a WR and using his hands after the balls in the air? Is he tough? Does a player have good field vision? Does he compete for 60 minutes? Is he durable? Is he coachable? Is he a problem child? There are so many things that go into being a good NFL player that to put so much stock in these 40 times is almost laughable. If straight ahead speed is so important, I can only name one Olympian who EVER starred in the NFL, that was Bob Hayes, and he came into the league over 40 years ago! So all you draftniks out there, put the 40 where it belongs, as just one small overall measure of a guys ability. It shouldn’t rank anywhere near the top.
