Should Fins trade Ronnie Brown to Chargers?
Okay so i know the headline probably either made you soil your pants, or jump for joy, but it makes me think as to why they have not pursued this trade scenario?
We trade Ronnie to the Chargers for their first round pick. EVeryone know they desperately need a RB, and someone like Ronnie would flourish in Turner's system. Their backfield is so depleted, why would they not consider signing him to an offer sheet?
Miami in turn would receive their 1st, i believe 29th overall. Now, we have options...We can take the 12th, and draft BPA, or we can trade down, and acquire more second round picks, or we can trade that pick to Denver and get Marshall. That way we can use the 29th pick on our DT, maybe Odrick, or young OLB, Witherspoon, or even a TE. I know we would have to give up our playmaker, but think about the opportunity it would provide for us to rebuild the core of our team, would far out-weigh the risk of trading our RB.
I know it may be a pipe dream, but it never hurts to dream does it?
Thoughts?

my thoughts?
don’t put a headline like this that makes people believe brown was actually traded. put something like “idea: trade ronnie brown to chargers”
the question mark was enough for me lol

My thought is that you should put the words "could the" at the beginning of the title
I’m all for interesting titles but that’s just misleading.
In regards to the trade it seems fair although I don’t think Ronnie is as attractive to other teams as some of us think. He’s coming off injury and getting a couple years younger then LT doesn’t seem like a proactive move on their part.
Maybe it could happen but I just don’t see it in my mind. I think Ronnie is here until he breaks down completely at around the age of 31.

But there is realistically a 0% chance
that they will draft 2 offensive players with the first two picks
I second that!!!!
No way we go offense the first two picks and truly it would not surprise me if we didn’t draft a single offensive player until rounds 3 or 4. D wins games, we’ve shown that we can put points on the board but when we come up with no stops on D we sink.

Trading for Marshall would be good
If we signed him as a RFA it would cost us the #12 pick. I doubt Denver would trade him for the #29 pick. I’d rather keep Ronnie who IMHO is one of the top 5 backs in the league when playing/healthy and trade the #12 to Denver for Marshall. That is of course if Dex Bryant is gone by the #12 pick.

How would we replace Ronnie? Going defense wouldn’t be the answer. I know it’s a passing league but we would need to find a darn good replacement fast.

So, how often has Ronnie been playing healthy?

Only one problem
The only problem with this scenario is that it creates another need. I love Ricky and Cobbs should be back but at this point, it would be a stretch to go through the full season with them especially not knowing how strong Cobbs will be. The others on the roster aren’t strong enough either. Now if they were to trade down from the #12 and pick up an additional pick in the 2nd, it could work.
I doubt anyone is going to give a 1st round pick...
even in the late first, for Ronnie Brown.
But hey, if someone wants to then I’d be game for it in a heartbeat.
A first round pick for a 28 year old Pro Bowl RB is not that much...
If you are a team that is one or two pieces away from a Super Bowl or contending for one, why wouldn’t you do it? You all say that he isn’t worth a first? You’re telling me that you would take any RB in this draft over Ronnie and his production thus far?
C’mon Man!!!
Granted he needs to be healthy, but he is easily a top 5-8 back in the league when he is. I bet New England would love to have him, so would the Eagles, why not the Redskins, or the Texans?

we probrbaly would have ended up like the Lions more than once and he’s our biggest play maker , he may be 28 but he’s done alot for us. But i still think i would trade him for Brandina Marshall or a first round pick.

He’s a key cog in our offense, but to say he’s our biggest playmaker when he can’t finish out a season is ridiculous.
Look, I love the guy, got a jersey and all…. but its time to move on, get what we can from him. When he goes down again in the middle of the season next year, will we get another season of excuses from fans?

Lets be honest....
2009 – Ricky Williams outperformed Ronnie this year.
2008 – Chad Pennington outperformed Ronnie
2007 Ronnie missed 9 games….
2006 – Ronnie was the MAN. I’ll give you this year.
2005 – Ricky outproduced Ronnie….
So 1 out of 5 years he could be considered our biggest play maker. … Ronnie Brown is not the best player on this team. Clearly.

Like the idea
But how about this one … Trade Ronnie for Shawn Merriman and draft a running back in the 3rd or 4th….They are both about the same age both have injury issues they would fill a need for both teams And Merriman is not happy with his contract situation…Been thinking about this scenario for sometime now…
Not a bad idea at all
I’d hate to see him go but at the same time we have to do what’s best for the team. I’ve thought about your Merriman idea as well. Dansby and Merriman!! Then picking up someone in the draft on top of that. Keeping JT and developing Wake, along side all these other pieces. Could turn our group into one of the most feared linebacker cores in the league. Who you eyeing in the 3rd or 4th to replace Ronnie??
I really like Montario Hardesty
Out of Tennessee …But I’m not sure we would be able to get him in the third as his stock seems to be rising . . .That would be SOME line backing core!
Good choice
Damn near 1400 yards last season, averaging 4.8 a carry. Could do some work catching the ball as well. Personally I’d like to see a few more pounds on the guy he’s sittin at 6-1 215. If he gained another ten pounds he’d be pushin just about as much as Ronnie.
You know who else reminds me of Ronnie
He’s also an Auburn back, Ben Tate I’m starting to like him more and more…ran a 4.43 at the combine…would lve him in the 4th
Brown has a tough rehab ahead.
I’d be happy if he’s ready to go week 1.
It's what you learn after you know it all that counts. ~ John Wooden
Of course they should but SD isn't that dumb
The Miami Dolphins are “my team” as far as a fan goes, always have been and always will be,but this is “a team” to our FO and you have to seperate emotions and sound business practices in any business or you’re doomed for failure.
NO ONE except emotionally driven Dolphin fans see RB as an elite back and definetly not worthy of a #1 pick unless your job depends on the 2010 season and you have everything, top to bottom, except a capable back and no one fits that description and that is unfortunate for us because this is going to be yet another LT situation in 2 years and we wont get crap for him.

no chance
Not no chance would i trade ronnie but no chance San Diego would trade for him. I love the guy but he is not even 30 and already really banged up. SD could pick up Ryan Matthews or some one to that effect at the end of round 1. I would say Ronnie stays with us for at least this year.
NO
i wouldnt want this to happen. he might get injured a lot but when healthy he is one of the best backs in the league. and what he can do for this team is unreplaceble with the wildcat and everything else. SD wouldnt do this trade anyway and im glad for that. we would be building our core like you say but giving away our best player or one of our best players. after doing this we would then be left with a bad backfield. williams is good but hes not starting material for a whole season. dont make holes to fill holes. bad idea. we could build it without doing this. draft dez bryant OLD in the 2nd and hopefully Cam thomas in the 3rd. either sign wilson back or go after atogwe which i think they will do in june.

No Dez
Dont draft a headache, if you ar a pro and need to be woken up and brought to meetings you have no place here. 3rd round Dez is no problem but he will not last that long. 1st round should be a big no, unless they trade down with New Orleans but that of course wont happen
Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is perhaps, the end of the beginning.

The Dolphins already tendered Ronnie Brown.
So this has basically been offered to any team. Brown was a restricted free agent the dolphins placed a tender on him so any team could have signed him for a first round pick…so far nobody has put that up.
NOO
Brown is a beast u are wrong as soon as he got hurt we started to suck if we trade him who will talk his spot lex hillard or pat cobbs lol
HE'S ALWAYS HURT!!!
Serious, how do people not realize this?
He doesn’t finish a season….. So while you continue to call him a beast, and an elite back, he continues to get hurt, which in turn hurts our team….EVERY SINGLE YEAR.

Ronnie is not an elite back and has never been but he is very important to the team. That said he doesn’t finish seasons and there a ton of solid backs in this draft if we could acquire 3 picks in rds 2-5 i would take it.
Ronnie Brown
Ronnie Brown is not as expendable as some of you are saying. One year removed from the pro bowl, Ronnie had an injury, but was averaging 4 yards per carry, and did just as well as always, maybe, maybe not quite as good at cutting, as he himself has admitted that his knee is not as strong as it once was. Ok. Ronnie will be gone after next year, I think we are at peace with that. This negative talk of Pat White stinks of a couple things, and one is a black quarterback hatred, sorry to bring the race card. There are so many quarterbacks that have waited much longer with Miami, like Scott Mitchell. Anyone remember his first pass? An interception. Well, the point my friends is two things. Pat White was stupidly, and still is stupidly harassed for getting knocked out on a play where he was trying to gain an extra yard, and had a major hit, a hit that would have knocked out anyone. He was fine. Ok, Pat White will not leave the Dolphins and there IS a reason why he was drafted where he was. The Dolphin front office is smarter than you are, they realized the odds of super bowl this year were lower then 2010. Now, now in 2010, and 2011, and 2012, these are Dolphin years. With Ronnie out, Pat will run the wildcat. The wildcat is not gone and will return and will do well. If you understand the dynamics of football and movement of the ball and the strategy applied, the apparent illogical strategy of Parcells and Sparano (run ball stop run, is NOT the common theme now, nor was it when the Giants beat the ever so popular 49ers back in the day when Parcells won the super bowl with a RB averaging 3.2 yards per carry). Anyway, Dolfans need to slow their role a bit and see the bigger picture. Brown is a good runner, and NO, Shonn Greene is not better than Ronnie, and Ronnie is a very highly respected back in the NFL, he just had two injuries, it’s unfortunate, but hey, we still have one of the best backfields in the league. I would not be surprised if Miami went RB/WR in the draft, kept big Paul Soliai at NT for the starter, as he did very well, aquired Atogwe from the Rams, used Cam Wake at left linebacker along with Reggie Torbor and a later round linebacker in the draft, and kept (yes they will keep) Ted Ginn, and keep the tight end situation right where it is and use Joey Haynos more next year. They will keep Thigpen but would trade him before they would trade White. White is not a WR, and that speculation is so old and out of place, it’s like every black quarterback needs to be a new position, get over it you morons PW has never said, nor has anyone in authority of changing his position simply because he is fast. Ok, so starting lineup will include a new Free Safety, a new WR, and one K. Dansby, other than that; we’re good. Paul Soliai is a 4th rounder himself, who did exceptionally well at NT last year IMO. We need a NT, but we also still have one; or two. We need a new NT, but we need other things. Ronnie, we need Ronnie worse than we need a NT, OLB, or FS!
I couldn't tell you what came after the "black quarterback hatred" deal

Will Allen
I like the idea of converting Will Allen. We also lost Nate Jones the other day, that sucks. Culver is good but not what we need there. Clemons COULD work out, but he’s pretty mellow back there and can’t hit hard enough. The Free Safety position is in peril as Gibril didn’t work out. Dammit!!!! We have tried for years to get that position dialed in, and for decades now we haven’t had a good FS, not since Louis Oliver left. I like the idea of converting Will Allen to safety, well, I don’t like it that well, but Rod Woodson did it with great success. Will is very smart, and FS’s need to be smart.
