Signing Fergs has calmed me down

So after every move this off-season I have had to sit back and relax, let the dust settle and think things out. I was excited about the Dansby signing, upset about the Wilson release and puzzled about the Ferguson signing.  Going into Free Agency, my thoughts on Team need were ILB, OLB, DT, WR, but when Dansby was signed and Wilson was released ILB was removed and FS added.

My opinion is that the Front Office felt they could get an upgrade at FS in Free Agency, and were not set on drafting one.  This is obvious to me with the interest and offer they had with Rolle and Clark.  Those two players deciding on a different team throws the team into a bind.  I was concerned, but the signing of Ferguson, made me do some research and have eased my nerves.  I have been saying that Parcells has never drafted a DT high, Ferguson and Ratliff, two of his best were 7th round picks, so why would that change now?  The signing of Fergs tells me they are satisfied with the development of Soliai and are content on him going into the season as a starter.  I then looked at the careers of Fergs and Ratliff, and Soliai and Ratliff’s first three years almost parallel each other and Fergs break out year was year two.  So with this I think DT, is not as big of a need for the Front office as some of us fans feel.

Now OLB I feel is a big need, especially with JT in limbo and Cam Wake not use to being a 3 down player.  Looking back through Parcells draft, he has selected OLB in the first, but he as done a real good job drafting OLB in the 2nd and 3rd round.

FS as we said is a need now, Wilson can always be resigned or there is Darren Sharper as a Band Aid or they can throw Clemons or Culver in the fire.  However I think a FS is now on the radar for the 12th pick of the draft.  Berry may fall, but Earl Thomas is a definite possibility!  Drafting FS 1st allows the Fins to play with OLB or WR in the 2nd and 3rd.

My only problem is talent wise I do not think there is a WR that can be a play maker the Fins need to step in and produce in the 2nd or 3rd round, and they will just add to the complimentary WR corps the Fins already have.  So I would pray for Benn to drop to the 2nd and look for a OLB in the 3rd.  But if I had it my way I’d strongly look at Bryant or T.O for temporary fix.

If it would me I would stay to my philosophy of drafting Best Player Available with in reason.  Meaning even if Bradford drops to 12 I would pass on him and grab the BPA in OLB, FS, DT or even Spiller.

I would stay clear of Dez Bryant, his attitude, work ethic and being out of football for half a season puts up a red flag, and I would stay clear of Jason Pierre-Paul, he’s a freak, did not play against the best college teams, and has only one year of Division 1 experience. I see Gholston written all over him.
