I never really the one to use the combine to justify a football players talent, but it does help to get a better understanding on how fast, strong, and agile some of these guys are. If you've been following at all, you saw that SEAN WEATHERSPOON ran a 4.57 Forty...this is a guy who can play both ILB in a 3-4 or I believe Strong Side linebacker as well in a 4-3 and 3-4. He benched 225 34 times! That is more than the DL lineman Suh and Mccoy. Guy is fast, strong, a vocal leader on defense who plays with an extremely high motor and a lot of passion. I would love him to be our SSLB or even 3-4 ILB.
Another guy i'm really high on who was a tackling machine in college and amazing against the run was Micah Johnson. If im not mistaken he had 31 reps on the bench press and a forty in the 4.6's. Both players definitely proved they were strong enough to take on guards in a 3-4 scheme and although Weatherspoon will be gone by the 2nd, I think Johnson and guys like Daryl Washington will be around in the 2nd and we can definitely jump on them. Also, with Mcclain not participating, it probably dropped his stock and now if he is around for us to take at 12, we can trade down and let a team like the Giants give us a 4th Rounder and trade up to take him. At this point unless ERIC BERRY falls to us at 12, and only Eric Berry, because we know Suh and Mccoy aren't...I would hope Miami can complete a trade down to the lower teen's and pick up Weatherspoon. Imagine our linebacking core with Weatherspoon, Crowder, Dansby (if he signed) or Micah Johnson and Wake/JT (if he resigned).
After last year, I saw the impact that Brain Cushing and Clay Matthews had on their team as rookies and it showed me how valuable they type of players are. Hopefully the TRIFECTA can sniff out some diamonds in this draft...
Other non 1st rounders to keep your eye on if you haven't already....
Cam Thomas
Carlton Mitchell
Ryan Matthews
Dennis Pitta
Nate Allen
Andre Dixon
Just some guys I like a lot that I have been following that I'm not sure will go round 1
