Don't look now - but it seems like the C.J. Spiller bandwagon is getting ready to get more crowded. For the first time, we're seeing some of the more well-known mock drafts connecting Spiller and the Dolphins.
And for the record, the New Era Scouting mock draft would be an AMAZING draft if it played out that way.

and you know something I would not mind one bit at all myself if we took him,but for some strange reason I think McClain will be gone and from what I heard we like Williams,Spiller and Whitherspoon, I think if Williams has a great workout he may be our pick

My thoughts
Get yourself a proven WR somehow…dont guess on a young one and get burned again. Go LB and NT in 2 and 3….get yourself a PLAYMAKER in the 1st round. He is your eventual Ricky replacement.
Hes the best return man in the draft….top 5 in the nfl right away.
He has the best hands on a RB ive ever seen….he was split out at WR so much it was crazy this year.
This kid has legendary talent…ive watched him since high school. He grew up in Florida a FSU fan…but picked Clemson over them cuz FSU was sooo down.

I think the stereotype is that
they’re less athletic.. I mean I’m not one for stereotypes but that generally is the rule in the NFL.
Welker’s only so good because he’s quick. Not athletic. Hartline will be good, but no #1.

I'll say it like this
if there was a Ray Lewis or an Andre Johnson or a Julius Peppers in this draft and was gonna be available at 12.. I’m all for it. But there isn’t another player outside of Berry that I believe can have the impact on a team and on a game that Spiller can. The guys at our “need positions” are not real superstar quality guys IMO. Dez Bryant, Rolando McClain, Dan Williams, Jerry Hughes…. those guys don’t scream “MUST HAVE!!!” at pick 12. I don’t think any of them make our team better than what Spiller would..

i would not be mad if we got spiller.
only if we were able to pick up some linebackers in the second and third. hopefully (doubtfully) brandon spikes can drop to the 2nd and we can pick up micah johnson in the third i will call it a success.
i think if we can pick up antrel rolle and possibly wilfork or hampton. then really our only whole is wide reciever

i think hampton is a nice option
he made the pro bowl (not that its really anything to brag about anymore) and the steelers said they are willing to let him go. he still has quite a few years left in him at the age of 32? i think. 2 years older the ferguson but imo better.
but who knows. i trust the FO they will do what it takes to get this team to the superbowl. dansby would be a nice pick up too

I think Spiller is definitely the choice.
I’m not sure if you guys have heard about this yet, but I just saw over on Buffalo Rumblings that apparently the Bills new DC has announced that they will be switching to a 3-4 defense. That means they could definitely be taking a stronger look at picking up McClain with their pick, or possibly even Dan Williams or Cody, as they don’t really have anyone who is a big NT.
I think that the chances of McClain being there when we pick just dropped, so Spiller has got to be the obvious choice here. Nobody else with that kids amount of talent and explosiveness is in the draft IMO.

i’m still yet to settle on a bandwagon. Last year, I was convinced by the combine about Sean Smith – he was my bandwagon guy. And that worked out well.
So once the combine comes and goes, I’ll pick my bandwagon. But Spiller is definitely in the running. What’s holding me back is just how bad the defense played late in the season. But like you said, I’m not sure there’s a guy at #12 that would be an immediate game changer.
So outside of Eric Berry – who will NEVER be around at #12 – I don’t have “one guy” I’m pulling for…yet. But it could turn out to be Spiller.

If we trade back a few spots. Spiller is the best all around back in this Draft. The best Between the Tackles back is Ryan Mathews.

Nothing against Spiller, but Dolphins have too many other needs to draft him. It would be a huge mistake to draft Spiller if McClain is available. Dolphins will never make the Super Bowl with their defense playing the way they did this past year. McClain and Crowder sounds a lot better than Crowder and Ayodele. think about it: Spiller and Brown would have to split time so you’re taking our best player off the field to get Spiller reps. Yes, there’s the Wildcat (but didn’t we already use a draft pick for the formation in the second round last year?), but I’d rather get a beast of an ILB who will play every down on D than a backup running back who, by definition, will take our best player off the field to play. Fortunately, I don’t see the front office using a 1st RD on a RB unless Ronnie is moved first.
Except that I don't know if McClain will be there when we pick.

Hey man i hear ya, Nobody has been Screaming for LB’s more than me! I miss the piss out of Zach Thomas! But if Dolphins are on the clock at 12, and CJ Spiller is still available , which i highly doubt he will be anyway because he’s gonna light up the Combine, You can’t pass on this Special talent! Trust me, i’ve been a fan of Spiller the Thriller for almost his entire college career, and i Hate Clemson! What does that tell you??

While Spiller looks great…RB is not a need..LB is a big need.. because once the FO gives the 2 big mouths their walking papers we’re going to need to draft a few LBer’s and maybe pick one up in FA..If McClain is not there at #12 then i would trade down and add some more picks and get Kindle as my first pick..And hopefully Spikes will still be there in the 2nd round..
But LB is also one of the deepest positions in the draft
You’re talking about guys like Brandon Spikes, Sean Witherspoon, Daryl Washington, that might be available in the second round. We can easily fill the LB position outside of round 1.
Kindle is suspect IMO. He can’t play the run, and he only has a speed rush. We need a SOLB that can play the run, rush the passer, and drop into coverage. I don’t think he solves our OLB problem.
I doubt that Crowder is leaving. Like it or not, they knew he was a big mouth when they signed his extension last year, so this is no surprise. And McClain doesn’t impress me at all, and I think it would be a reach to take him at 12 because I don’t believe he’s a bigtime playmaker. Think AJ Hawk. Solid, but not spectacular, and was probably drafted too high. If we’re gonna get “solid” at LB, I’d rather wait till round 2 or 3, and get “spectacular” in the first round.

RBs are easy to replace, so I think we could get a quality guy in the 3rd 4th range to replace Ronnie. But, that gives us the option of drafting huge needs early like ILB and Nose Tackle, among WR

LOL Your right about that. If I were to guess he will try and get himself in some sort
of shape so he can get drafted and paid. He will then have a constant struggle with his weight causing battles with his coaches but kept around for a couple of years because he shows “flashes” of being great. After the team tires of all this after a while he is labeled a bust and released. He then bounces around the league for a couple of more years till he is out of football for good.

As much as I would love to have Spiller, I just don’t see anyway we take him at #12. There is another guy named Dexter McCluster who will be available way later who I believe has almost the potential that Spiller does, not to mention he has already been running the Wildcat at Ole Miss. What I would like to see is us do is either trade for Boldin or Marshall at WR, then draft McClain, Cody, and McCluster in the first 3 rounds. Getting Vince Wilfork from NE would be awesome, but I see Belichek franchising him.
Well, I don't totally agree with you on McCluster.
I like the kid, he has a ton of potential, but I don’t feel that it is nearly as huge as what Spiller has. Spillers got the kind of talent you only see a couple of times a decade and is a threat pretty much everywhere on the field.
As far as McClain goes, the potential to get him could have gotten smaller as the Bills are now switching to a 3-4 defense, so a good ILB like McClain is firmly on their radar. I think the competition to get the good LBs in this draft is going to be tight. Instead of worrying about whether or not we can get McClain or give up stuff to move up to get him, I say we make a strong play to get a free agent LB like Dansby to solve our ILB problem.
And I want nothing at all to do with Cody.

What is WITH you guys?
I don’t understand it. Why in the world do we need CJ Spiller at this point in time? Even if we sell Ronnie this off-season, we still have Patrick Cobbs, Lex Hilliard, and and Ricky Williams to play around with. Once Ricky leaves after next season, we can look for backs. They’ll be there. They’ll always be there.
But why now, when our line-backing corps is completely out of whack, and we lack the necessary talent to run the 3-4? Our nose tackle isn’t getting younger. Neither are our OLBs. And as far as ILB goes, we’re completely threadbare.
WE NEED LINEBACKERS. Period.
If you look at most of the drafts we get some good LB's in later rounds....
CJ Spiller is a fairly unique talent in this years draft. If you’re counting on Cobbs and Hilliard then you’re in some pretty big trouble. I like them but they’re not feature backs. I think Crowder still has some room to grow and if a certain dancer with the stars wants to play another year I think you’re LB’s will be pretty good. Particularly if they get someone like Brandon Spikes or Jerry Hughes. But that’s just me.

While I agree we need linebackers,
we also are going to need running backs very soon. Ricky said he is retiring after next season and Ronnie’s contract will be up, leaving us with Cobbs and Hilliard and Sheets. While I like Cobbs and Hilliard, I don’t think that either of them can be the main back for this team. They can be great second or third backs, but not the main one. And we don’t really know anything about Sheet’s skills, except that he wasn’t able to get activated for any games this year, which leads me to believe that he wasn’t better or as good as Ricky or Lex.
So why wait on getting a replacement running back until next year when we are absolutely going to need one to start and risk getting a bust? We can draft one this year who has an amazing level of talent, and have the whole year to evaluate him and get him used to our playbook behind Ronnie and Ricky.
As for the linebackers, we could solve the our issues at ILB if we get Dansby, at least until we see if Crowder gets more productive under Nolan. And there are good LBs that can be gotten in the later rounds too, Micah Johnson, Spikes, Weatherspoon, Kindle, Washington, etc. Not all of them may be available in rounds 2 or 3, but most of those guys have been fairly consistently mocked in the 2nd and 3rd rounds.

Yeah, it would suck because I love Ronnie
but it’s one of those sad but true statements. I just don’t think that many teams are going to be willing to give up a 1st rounder for a running back that is almost 30 and has suffered season ending injuries in all but one of his seasons. I think that a 2nd round pick would be a good asking price that would draw some legit interest. And who knows, if multiple teams show interest, we might be able to get a bit more out of them if they try and outbid each other.

hey guys, a little new here but i do read the comments. honestly DO NOT draft spiller unless we trade ronnie brown for a first and another draft pick (possibly work out a three-way deal with the cardinals and someone else to bring rolle here) this is like pat white last year. completely not needed but taken anyways as a luxury pick. if linebacker and NT can be addressed in free agency i say go for dez bryant (remember a COMPLETE team is always better than a more explosive, one sided team) priorities this offseason should read like this: NT, ALL linebacker spots, WR, TE, S, and then youth at runningback. if we trade ronnie brown send him to an NFC team to keep him away from us (think seahawks) and then we get double the bonuses from getting spiller and someone else.
ok guys first off i would love to have spiller as our rb of the future but we already have an awsome rb. the only way i see us getting him is if we trade ronnie to the seahawks for there first round a pick or the first round b. if thats the case here how i would see it:
first round a (7th overall): relondo mcclain because he might get snagged by the broncos or someone else and we really need linebackers. He is the #1 lb in the draft because he is fast, stops a running play, covers a TE or a reciever and is just smart
first round b:(12overrall): C.j. spiller now we have a decent rb that can catch some and return some. He will be and upgrade because he is faster, younger and just more talented then an aging running back.
second pick (44 overall): Jordan shipley, shocker? no i dont see us picking up a reciever in FA because were gonna go defense. i like Shipley because He’s a dynamic rout runner, to me has THE greatest hands in college, He is blazing fast, gets the first down on slants and returns punts and kicks like c.j. I mean did you see him in the champions ship? i did.

but Ronnie for the 7th overall pick won’t happen. He’s just not worth a 1st round pick. I wish he was, but I think getting a 2nd for him would be a great deal for us and allow us to get our defensive stud in round 2.

Just call Pete Carrol Draft day and tell him we want Trade him “RB” for his 1st by the time our card hits the podium it’s done baby. By the time he figures out it’s Ronnie Brown and not Reggie Bush we are already picking at #12. Done Deal.
