Why Strong Side Linebacker is a need...
After reading the recent fan post that has us taking Sean Weatherspoon from Mizz, i realized that OLB, specifically on the strong side is a position in need of serious attention.
First off, if we draft a guy like Weatherspoon, who I read has been amazing all senior bowl and is a vocal leader which i think is extremely important as well as I think this team is lacking a few of those, it allows Jason Taylor to come back to his original position on the weak side with Cam Wake. We rotate those two on the weak side and have weatherspoon on the strong side. Now this probably won't happen unless we address the ILB position, either with a second/third round pick of via Free Agency like a Karlos Dansby.
If you look at what Brian Cushing has done in his rookie year, you can see how much impact that position can have eventhough it doesn't get all the sacks and the fancy stats. It would help the run a lot as well as pass coverage against TE's and Rb's, something we had a lot of trouble with. I think we have our pass rushers already on this team and we were I believe, top 5 in the NFL in sacks this year. With Taylor on the weak side with Wake, we would have pressure every down and keep them fresh along with our young and talented D line. I know we still need to address the NT position but for our Linebacker position, if we bring back JT, and draft a guy like this, then we can go after a Micah Johnson or the ILB from TCU or Sharpton from Miami and hope they become studs.
Finally, I like to add that I want porter off this team ASAP even if that means we get nothing for him. We need to show that this team won't tolerate this cancerous players, and thats exactly what he has become and that was what Roth was as well. Guys that attract drama and personal attention is not what we need. We will easily fill his shoes and I hope he goes to a team and they start losing so I can hear him constantly complaining about someone else.

Brandon Graham can handle the strong side.

There are a few decent ones
that should be there in 2/3rd round. I expect we draft 2 maybe even 3 if a guy they like is there at round6/7. Kindle/Hughes/Graham could be a trade down late 1st or possible 2nd along with Norwood/Sapp/Spoon/Sharpton/Lang/Cunningham/Selvie/MuckelroyGibson/Curren though some are WSLBers I expect 2 to be chossen by round 3 and another 1 or 2 later

Joey Porter
This past year Porter didn’t play the run, cover anybody in the pass game, and was limited to only about 40 tackles. That’s a pathetic total for a weakside LB in a 3-4 scheme. For comparison, Brian Cushing of the Texan’s had 132 total tackles as a rookie. We need younger, more explosive players at the LB position overall. I’m also tired of hearing him run his mouth as well. Another extremely overrated player is Channing Crowder, I got a kick out of Crowder siding with his pal Porter on the radio the other night. For an ILB who only totaled 51 tackles this year he should be careful how he trashes management, to me, he’s just as expendable as Porter.
