Chad Pennington, Jason Ferguson, Joey Porter and Jason Taylor.
Those were our captains of our 2009 Miami Dolphins and by the looks of this offseason we won't have one returning captain playing for us in 2010.
So how do go about having a team with success without having vetern leadership on the team? I don't think it is possible and IMO I think this was a big part in why the team lost the final three games at the end of the season. We have all heard about Porter's antics late in the season and the problems that caused for the team.
So who will our new Captains be? Who will be leading our 2010 Dolphins to the playoffs?
Leadership is one of those things that you can't measure or time. Either you have it or you don't and right now we are a very young team and you and I don't know if these players have "it".
Is Chad Henne ready to step up and lead this team? Maybe
Is Ronnie Brown someone who you want to put in charge of rallying the troops? Maybe
Or do the Dolphins go outside of who we already have on the roster by resigning Taylor and looking at getting some more vetern leadership in FA like Darren Sharper or maybe trading for Boldin.
These are just thoughts but if we stay status quo who would be our captains?
Brown, Henne, Bell, Crowder ????
I don't know and that IMO is why this is what really needs to be addressed this offseason.

Oh wow.
I’d say that Henne definitely should be a captain. I’m not sure if you guys do an O-Line captain, but I can see Henne and Brown as the captains of the offense.
Not always two on O ..
last season only Pennington was captain so sometimes you only have one. I think Henne could be but that will have to wait to be seen but wouldn’t be against Brown as I like his attitude.
Henne and Hartline on offense....
Ronnie Brown is too nice to make a good captain… Hartline is a born leader, yeah he is a rookie, but he is a leader for the receivers. Defense, bring JT back and Ferguson, since I don’t think we can get someone to replace him ready by game one. Also, sign Karlos Dansby.
I Like the prospects of Brown.
Too Nice? I don’t know about that, he is a hard worker and someone who wants to win …. I think he would make a great captain. IMO Hartline is too young and I would maybe even choose Long over Hartline.

Another guy i see stepping up as leader over the next couple years is Vontae Davis

Vontae does have that cocky swagger who could really fill in that role Porter use have.
i touched on this in the comments of another post
and I’ll just reiterate that I think JT needs to be brought back because he is still a leader – and he’s more than capable on the field.
I think Henne will continue to grow into his role as leader. The OL also has some leaders on it – Smiley and Grove, for example.
And I think Karlos Dansby would be an excellent addition to the team not just for his on-field play. He was a leader in that locker room in Arizona.

we need taylor back,watching the way he yelled at the players with their sloppy play,i just cant see ronnie doing that.
On another note,seems to me bell could be a good leader,after making it to the probowl,it could just light that winning spark
On offense,id like to see hartline bulk up a bit first,and Jake long seems as good a leader as anyone,been in the league two years,two time probowler,though his time was cut short when he got injured.
Scary thought,but if penne dont come back,it leaves ricky to pick up on the leadership role,hes grown in his maturity,and after ronnie went down,of it wasnt fora couple of fumbles outta the wildcat,overall he did pretty good for a 32 yo back. We would just have to see if it carries over into this year

dansby might price himself out of miami, the trifecta wont get into a bidding war for him, i would go with dumervil, (a mike nolan project), resign Taylor for 1 more yr. and if dansby isnt outpriced, we could potentially have: dansby,dumervil,taylor,wake,crowder. Then we can be more flexible in the draft, maybe getting cj spiller and an OLB in the 2nd rd. since the draft is so deep at OLB or go DT or WR

Intersting point I hadn't considered.
I’d like to see Henne step up more as a leader and I think he certainly will – but it must be pretty hard when your bosses (the Trifecta) go out and : 1) bring in Pennington to take your starting spot in your rookie year; 2) draft another QB with a 2nd round pick; & 3) Trade for Tyler Thigpen right before your 1st start.

Based upon who is on the team:
Henne
Long (Based on 2 straight Pro Bowls to start his career – although I can’t argue against Grove or Smiley either)
Crowder
Bell
Who I would like to see/think it will be by next season:
Henne
Long
Taylor
Dansby? Ferguson?
I could also go for Carpenter, but he is just a kicker after all….
