Possible trade down scenario?

Okay so this is just my opinion so please don't kill me on this.  We obviously have a HUGE need for a number one receiver, and from what i've recently posted, the Chargers are in need of a RB after releasing LT...

Star-divide

Here is my scenario...Assuming that CJ Spiller is still avaliable on the draft board while number 12 rolls around, would it be possible that the Phins and Chargers swap picks in the first round so they can draft Spiller, and offer the Dolphins Vincent Jackson in return as compensation for moving up so far in the draft?

I know it's a steep price to pay, but the Chargers obviously don't believe that Sproles can handle the full load, and they might be in love with Spiller, so to me it make s sense.  Now maybe we can throw in Porter, or another player or pick to make it happen, but i would do it in a heart beat.  We could draft someone like Brandon Spikes in the mid-20's, or even the DT form Penn State, Odrick?

Don't be too harsh, but please leave your comments and opinions.  I think this move would help both franchises.

we won't own porter by draft time

but otherwise it sound good to me

I just think if they wanted to get rid of VJack and get Spiller they could just trade him to someone for a first rounder, and then some

True...

I just figured it would fill a need for both teams, but i understand your point. I just don’t know if the teams in the top, except for Cleveland, and Seattle might need RB. I personally think that it would cost the Chargers way to much to go that high, and trade into the top 10. That is why i figured if he fell to us, it would be the perfect time. They would save by not paying him as a top 10 prospect, and we could get our big WR.

Of course Tom Brady has to marry someone with Giz in her name. How fitting???

At this point

It is more likely we trade down with NY Giants. They released Antonio Pierce, so they are going to be looking hard at Mcclain. We could swap with them, if he is still on the board and pick Dan Williams at 15 and pick up a 2nd or 3rd rounder.

by VA phin Fan on Feb 22, 2010 7:43 PM EST reply actions

I didn't even think of that, but...

They could trade up ahead of us also if they think we are in love with McClain…the trifecta could talk him up and maybe force a team to trade up for him, possibly dropping someone down to us, but who really knows? Good scenario on your part…that would be just fine with me also.

No, trading up in the first round usually takes your pick and a second rounder.

If we gave them Spiller and they gave us their first rounder and Vjack then that’d mean that they value V Jack as a second round pick. And THAT is ludicrous.

by MauMontaV5 on Feb 22, 2010 9:46 PM EST up reply actions

O They aren't gonna do it

I don’t see us trading down nor do I see SD trading VJ. But I can still like the thought. Even down to the point of drafting Spiller.-)

Got ya. I do believe we are up for some interesting Draft day moves though.

Nobody saw the Sanchez trade last year for instance. Or KC reaching for that DL. Or even Davis dropping to the 25th spot.
I hope Berry is this year’s Davis! haha

I dont think theyd be looking at spiller

hes basically sproles 2.0.it would be a safer bet to offer em ronnie and camarillo, with a conditional next year, idk, just my opinion

Also, did pittsburgh resine willie parker? Or is he still a free agent?

It just seems odd that no ones showing interest, hes fairly decent, even behind a crappy oline. And hes 27-28 years old

Chargers would prefer Dwyer

Dwyer is someone who’d fit the chargers alot better in terms of being a back who plays all 3 downs. But trading down is definitely something to consider if guys like dez bryant, mcclain, Jpp, and berry (oh god please let berry fall to miami!!!!!) are gone.

by aquandy on Feb 22, 2010 9:16 PM EST reply actions

I think they would rather have a guy like Spiller.

they have a “power back” in Jacob Hester, so Dwyer is just a repeat of him IMO. Between Hester, Spiller, and Sproles (he is a RFA, so he may not be back), I think they would be fine. Tomlinson wasn’t a huge back, and Norv’s system doesn’t NEED a bruising back.

Hesters unproven.

I doubt the chargers would be satisfied with the job Hesters done, the guy has about 40 carries in his whole career with about 150 yards and the single TD, even hilliard and polite has more carries. Darren sproles and spiller are both complimentary rbs so they’d need that sought after feature back

by aquandy on Feb 23, 2010 9:23 AM EST up reply actions

What? Cmon man.

Vincent Jackson’s price is a 1st a 3rd and possibly a 5th. And even that is stretching it considering they just gave Rivers a huge contract and Jackson being his primary and only real proven target.
The scenario you are painting just doesn’t make sense at all so let’s not even discuss it. Don’t trying to be mean or anything. It’s just the truth.
What could happen is for us to draft Spiller and trade him and our 3rd for V Jackson.
And that would still be highly unlikely.

by MauMontaV5 on Feb 22, 2010 9:44 PM EST reply actions

Ehh,then if thats the case

offering them ronnie makes more sense imo, even if we end up using him as trade bait, maybe we can do a three way deal with a team that may need a corner this year, well put our runningback upwith say san fran, they give us the other davis and aubreyo? We fill two needs, they fill a gkaring hole,ad we sweeten the deal with solai, idk just thinking

by dolphinfan4lyfe on Feb 22, 2010 9:44 PM EST via mobile reply actions

haha this goes to show how severely overrated Ronnie Brown is around here.

You are saying they would be willing to trade an Elite NT and a Pro Bowl TE for a 28 year old RB coming of two season ending injuries? haha right

also keep in mind that trading down depends on teams wanting a player

If somehow joe haden falls to us someone is going to give us a good deal to trade up

it works the other way also

If everyone is off our draft board (which wont happen bec this draft is so deep, but in theory) and there isnt anyone at our spot that someone would be willing to trade up for we would be stuck having to reach for a player. again prob wont happen this year

I don't understand (not being ironic btw haha) how you'd go for a RB with our 1st pick

when two of the most basic and important aspects of playing defense thus winning games 1- stopping the run 2- getting to the QB are glaring needs on this team. OLB and NT.

by MauMontaV5 on Feb 22, 2010 10:43 PM EST up reply actions

because I don't like any of the NT's or OLB's at 12

and it’s stupid IMO to reach for a lesser player simply because that position is a need. We have other picks.

true. However, its a fact that now a days great NT to play in the 3-4 are rarely

found out of the 1st round. The same goes for OLBs. Just look at last year. Orakpo, Cushing and Mathews all made the pro bowl as freaking rookies- and of course were 1st rounders too. Imagine this defense in 10’ with that kind of impact player.

by MauMontaV5 on Feb 22, 2010 10:47 PM EST up reply actions

I agree

but I’m not so sure I would put Dan Williams in that “great NT” category.. I’ll admit I haven’t done a TON of research on him, but I also don’t remember hearing much about him at all during the season..

and I’m not sold on JPP as an OLB at all. He just strikes me as very Vernon Gholston-esque, and I think the most damaging thing to a franchise is missing on a 1st round pick, because of the money involved, and the fact that you missed on a chance to get a real stud. First round I’m looking at BPA this year because I don’t think we are 1 or 2 guys away, and I don’t want to pass on an extremely talented player to try and fill a need that may be filled later in the draft or even in another year.

yup, that basically sums up our current situation.

Im right there with you on the NT and OLB situation. I agree on the notion that there are no sure thing studs this year. And yes, I would only take a OLB or a NT in the first if I fell in love with them, otherwise it is a mistake.
Well said.

My feeling is that...

we do not need to focus on RB at all this year in the draft. We can find a cheap alternative out there in the FA pool. We really need to use this year to solve our enigma at WR, and get this poor kid some targets to throw to. And why can’t we use our TE more is beyond me!!!! Not only will it give Heene more time to throw the ball, but it would open the middle of the field by pulling some of the LB’s out to cover them. Second, or first, (doesn’t matter really), we need to get this defense TOUGH, and young ASAP. We were so good against the run in the early part of last season, but faded away when Fergie got hurt. We need physical beasts that love the game and play with reckless abandon. That is what we need the most.

I still feel that if we sign Dansby, and a WR maybe Austin, maybe even someone like Bryant, and draft McClain in the first, and then Cam Thomas with the 43rd pick, we would be sitting pretty for many, many years. Ahhh, i better pinch myself, cause i know i’m dreaming…it is almost bed time.

Also,he isnt our only playmaker

he can just work the wildcat like it was made for him.

To be honest though,to me yeah hes a playmaker, only you cant make plays from the sidelines, and he seems to be there alot. ricky does well when not expected to take the dui rect snap, sexy lexy seems to be coming along nicely,we have cobbs to catch out the backfield, idk, just seems we care too much about an oft injured player,if the best way he can help the team is on the trading block,we should pull the trigger, especially if we can pull a taylor parlor trick, and resign him next year

by dolphinfan4lyfe on Feb 23, 2010 12:24 AM EST via mobile reply actions

Spiller

I would not pass on Spiller. You’re handing SD a star with that trade. I take him myself then we’ll have the next LT! Believe me, this guy’s that good. He havn’t had that dynamic a playmaker on this team since the heyday of Duper and Clayton. Let’s make a bold and unexpected move and select someone who can light up the scoreboard, that’s really what today’s game is all about. New Orleans was 25th in defense and they win it all.We control the ball for 45 minutes against the Colts and still lose. You have to have the ability to strike quickly today and Spiller’s that guy. Just watch the tape on him and you’ll be amazed. Frankly, I’m surprised he’s not being touted higher than he is. IMO he’s the third best player in this draft behind Suh and Berry, I,m not an NFL GM but I’ve been watching this game for nearly 50 years and I think I know a rare talent when I see it. Spiller’s it!

V Jack is going no where.

Now that he finally developed into a #1 WR they’re going to trade him for a half pint RB who’s afraid of contact when they already have Sproles, hahaha c’mon bro, Rivers is the man down there remember, getting rid of your #1 WR is not the way, lol.

How About

Our First for their first, second, fourth, and fifth. Hey we would be getting practically raped according to the draft value chart. Maybe they’d go with their first, second, and third instead.

Won’t happen but its fun to dream. Personally, if they agreed to either proposal I jump on it without even blinking.
