Why so Sensitive?

Yes, I get it, all these "its okay to boo" and "real fans don't boo" fan posts are getting pretty redundant. But I just wanted my opinion to be heard. So this is a spoiler alert, if you don't want to read my opinion on booing our players, please stop reading and enjoy your Christmas morning.

As a dedicated fan, I will be attending the game tomorrow. Even though we are eliminated from the playoffs and we are facing one of the worst teams in the NFL in the last decade. Some of you who have read some of my previous posts know I am only 21, soon to be 22. I have never seen a Superbowl birth from our Dolphins. I have seen very few division titles, and very few playoff appearances. However, I have been a season ticket holder (well my father has been) and I have seen every home and away game since I can remember.

I give you this background to explain why I MIGHT boo tomorrow. Like most of you, I love this team. And to quote Hootie and the Blowfish, the Dolphins make me cry. But, like a previous fanpost has pointed out, I have never seen a team so disinterested in winning and trying hard from top to bottom like this one. Going 1-6, and at best 2-6 by seasons end at home is inexcusable. When our team went 1-15, we tried like hell to avoid going 0-16. That team tried very hard, a reflection on coaching maybe, but still, never went down without a fight, but heck, it just wasn't our year. We have a very talented team this year. Our defense is a top 10 d. One that should be able to bring us to the playoffs. DC$ is amazing, so is our punter. And our offense has an incredible amount of potential. Ricky, Ronnie, a decent line, with Bess and Marshall. Sure Henne isn't Marino, but he is mediocre enough to win some games.

I am not saying this falls on the coaching staff, but I am indeed wondering where the motivation to win is. I will boo on Sunday if our TEAM continues to struggle. We have played down to our opponents every game. We have hung with the elite teams in the league. Beat the Jets (elite? maybe not), should have beat the Steelers, beat the Packers, hung with the Pats til our special teams imploded. But every game agianst bad teams, Vikes, Bills twice, Browns, etc. we played them close and could have lost all all those games.

To me, there is one simple explanation. There is no desire to crush teams. That's how you win in the NFL. You have to want to beat your opponent to a pulp. Just check our division rivals the Pats. You get up early and never look back. Sure we don't have Tom Brady, but is the rest of their team THAT much better? I don't think so. Sure they lost to the Browns and have struggled early, I didn't expect the Dolphins to go 16-0, but I also didn't expect 7-7. Winning our games like we have on the road has been impressive to say the least, and something I am very proud of as a Dolphin fan. But again, where is the fire this team is supposed to have.

The reason I will boo is because our expectations going into this year were so high. Yes the experts had the Pats or Jets to win the division, but we knew we had something special here, or so we thought. I like to think I know a good deal about football, like most of you think you do as well. I happen to think our fans are some of the most intelligent football fans in the business, so if we all thought this team could have been great, what happened? To be honest, I don't have the answer, and that's why I will boo. They did not meet my expectations, and in my heart of hearts, it's because this team doesn't try as hard to win, to scratch and claw for every inch to win every game. I have seen a lot of football, and this team just doesn't have the intensity, its disheartening.

Some of you feel as if "booing" in wrong, and we as fans shouldn't do it. But in my defense, as well as the others who decide to boo, it is really the only way I can tell the team how disappointed I am in them. I have spent boatloads of money on this franchise over the years, from memorabilia, to tickets, and I want a team that plays hard and wins, thats all. Is it too much to ask for?

I know I am a little all over the place here, and I provided a few reasons why I will boo when I continually say "this is the reason I will boo" but give me a break, this is more of a rant than anything. Thanks for reading. I still love this team, I'll be tailgating Sunday. Lets go Phins. Show me something, please.

Now go ahead cynics, rip me to shreds.
