A FEW MORE PLAYS IN 4 GAMES AND WE ARE 11-3

If our team could have just made only 1 or 2 more plays in these 4 games we would be siiting at 11-3.

1) In the last game with Buffalo, if Henne could have completed that long pass to Kevin Curtis then we get another touchdown or field goal. Or if Dan Carpenter could and should have made at least 2 of the field goals, we win.

2) In the Cleveland game, if Nolan Carrol could and should have intercepted an easy interseption thrown right to him or if Henne could have hit Hartline with that long pass, we win.

3) In the first Jets game, if Langsford could have intercepted that easy lob from sanchez or if Marshal could have made a touchdown in the play of the 4th quarter where only 1 Jet knocked him out at the 10 yard line, we win.

4) If the correct ruling in the goal line play is made by the officials who are from Pittsburg or if we could have made 1 touchdown instead of a field goal on one of our 1st quarter turnovers, we win.

In conclusion, these losses fall mostly on the blame of certain players but I still agree that Henning makes bad play calls, that the o-line is weak, that Henne makes bone-head mistakes, so these problems still need to be addressed to be superbowl contenders but we are so close to being a great team next year.

MY SOLUTION TO FIXING THE DOLPHINS

I have been a fan of the Dolphins since 1969 and Dan Marino is my hero.
I have been reading all the fanposts for the last 2 years and I have read some excellent comments from all of you fans. Since I have had alot of coaching experience on many different levels and have coached many different sports teams to championships, I thought I might be able to add some of my thoughts on the Dolphins.
Since the beginng of the years I have always thought of and have told my friends that I feel the main problem IS THE INADEQUATE AND POOR COACHING.
FIRST OF ALL, like many of you have said, Dan Hennng needs to be fired now.He does not call plays to the strenghs of his players, especially Chad Henne. Secondly, I also feel that Tony Sporano is not a very good head coach because the players dont seem to be that motivated for home games, he hasn’t stepped up and fired Henning, he doesn’t take much chances on offense,(like the buffalo game in the 1st quarter when we were driving down the field and were faced with a 4th and 2 and about the 35 yard line, why
not go for it but carpenter has to try and make a long and difficult 48yd field goal and misses so the bills get the ball back in the same spot.) I have seem Sparano call many of these SAFE callls throughout the season and he will not lead us to the Superbowl. We need an agressive coach and OC to lead us. Next we need a dominant center, and a speedy running back and WR. The jury is still out on QB Henne so I would get a Veteran like McNabb or Kitna and also one in the draft to compete with Henne. Make these moves and we are as good of team as anyone in the NFL

I agree with your views Mr. Marino, as Dan is my all time favorite football player ever too.

All your points are dead on and has all the ingredients to a sb contending 2011 fin team. Yes coaching is subpar and I just can’t figure out why the indians are getting picked off, but the chief remains unblemished.

And if Pete Stoyanovich made that kick against San Diego, we would have played in the 1994 AFC Championship.

And if Chris Carter didn’t drop that TD pass week 16 of the 2002 season, we would have made the playoffs that year.

And if Orlindo Mare could kick of the infield dirt, we would have beat New England and made the playoffs in 2003.

And if someone kidnapped Ray Lewis prior to the 2008 Wild Card Round, we would have beaten Baltimore.

You’re right that if those plays you mentioned above were made, we could have won those games. But consider….

1) Buffalo – I don’t even want to talk this game.

2) Cleveland – Yeah intercepting Delhomme would have been great. But when it didn’t happen, all we needed was to get into FG range….against CLEVELAND….and we couldn’t.

3) New York – Again, a Langford interception would have been great. But when it didn’t happen, we got down to the 10 yard line needing a TD and couldn’t get the ball in the endzone.

4) Pittsburgh – I wish they got the call right. But when they didn’t, all we needed was to get into FG range and couldn’t do it.

Great teams overcome missed opportunities. The Dolphins don’t.

In reponse to a few plays we could be 11-3

Yeah great teams overcome missed opportunities but I was stating that this is how close we are to being a great team. We are a very young team with loads of talent especially on defense, with some changes in coaching and on offense we will be a great team next year.
I have been coaching in leagues for years and I have seen teams with the best talent finish at or below 500 because their coaches didn’t know how to use that talent effectively just like the dolphins coaches except Mike Nolan. And why not make Nolan the new head coach?

I hear ya

But this team reminds me way too much of the Dave Wannsteadt coached teams. They had talent too….and went nowhere.

This is a one sided look, we could also be 3-11,

because you could easily counter this argument the other way, because if we look at the first Buffalo game, Minn, GB and the 2nd Jets game, if their players just made a play or 2 we would be 3-11.

yup

agreed… 1 or 2 plays in each game and we could easily be undefeated or 0-for right now.

that's the problem with "what if"

we only seem to look at it from our side. We tend to forget the other teams miscues. But, we do seem to be having a season of full of “almost made the play”

by TheCableguy on Dec 24, 2010 2:12 PM EST up reply actions

Yep.

It is after all the NFL. Talent obviously matter but who wins and who takes the loss often times comes down to who is more prepared and more disciplined. Way too many times did I get the feeling that we looked totally lost out there while watching a Phins game this season.
