Lets face... the ultimate goal for every NFL team is to win the Super Bowl... right? Well for the Lions, Bills and Browns type team it is just winning, but for teams in the middle of the pack to the elite its to win a Superbowl.
Well for the Fins, I think they realized in the off season that this was not going to be their year. So why not prepare for next season for their run? The problem, they have 2 RB's who are FA's in 2011 and Ronnie won't be coming back for cheap if they have a season like they did in 2009.
So they IR Nate Gardner even though there was potential he could come back during the 2010 season, and they use Dan Henning as their scape goat and tell him to call God awful plays the entire season. Finally they say "Lets start Henne, he is not ready, but it makes it look like were trying".
Boom! Run game is awful, offense is awful! Henning was on his way to retire anyway, so now they can bring in a better Offensive Coordinator. Nate Gardner is coming back, and with a center in the draft or FA the OLine is dominant again. And Ronnie and Ricky realize they may not have what it takes any more and if they want to start than they need to resign for cheap. Last piece of the puzzle... bringing in a new QB through the Draft or FA.
Combine this with a Top 5 Defense and you have a Championship contender. The only thing they need to do, is draft a 3rd Round RB. One who was productive in college and can learn from the RB's in front of him and in 2 years he is the man.
So there you have it... I figured it out. So all the bashing of Henning and Henne and the Fins in general can stop... it was all part of THE plan!
