Before the season started I believed that the defense would be the weakness of the Dolphins but instead it has become the strength of the team. The offense was supposed to be our strength but that became our weakness. How could you not think that was going to happen? We had bigger names on the offense, as well as bigger playmakers on the offense.
I think the offense did not become strength of the Dolphins because they never found an identity. Before the year started the fins identity was running the football. The fins’ running game is not very good and that has made our offense disappointing thus far. I’m leaning toward that our running games fault is the offensive line but I still believe the R and R express should be running better. Especially when acquiring Brandon Marshall the thought was that opposing defenses would not put 8 men in the box, but the running game has not taken advantage of having less than 8 in the box. The running game was supposed to set up the pass off of play action but play action does not work when you cannot run the ball. I also give blame to Henne when it comes to play action he is awful at it, the ball gets nowhere close to the running back and no defenses fall for the fake.
Just like everyone else on this site I believe Dan Henning has to go, his questionable play calling drives me crazy. That especially happens when he decides to call a wildcat play, a perfect example from this past Sunday’s game. After Henne throws a perfect 28 yard pass to Fasano, one of the only few good passes all day from Henne, Henning decides to call the wildcat. The offense just had a nice play and you kill the momentum from it by taking Henne out of the game. I believe Henning holds back Henne by not taking chances but I think it is just the teams’ philosophy of being conservative and making sure no one makes a mistake.
No one criticizes the wide receivers or tight ends but I do think some blame has to go one them. They are all very inconsistent and don’t get open as often as they should. Which I think leads to another bad side of Henne which is when he panics. When the opposing defense puts pressure on him or none of his receivers gets open he panics and just runs with the ball instead of trying to extend the play. Defenses are starting to figure out how to defend Henne, they play zone coverage because Henne does not read defenses well and that forces him into turnovers.
I still believe Henne can become the fins future Quarterback but I am starting to loose my patience.
