Lets be honest here, we aren't winning the Superbowl this year. What the rest of the season will tell us is what players stay or go, and well some time to think who our next offensive coordinator will be cause for damn sure it isnt going to be Henning.
On that note, I would like to turn my attention to the off-season and the draft. The reason I bring this up is not because of last night, but because we arent elite yet and as such we still need to add and subtract at critical positions for next season. No i am not jumping off, I watched all of our games when we went 1-15 and will do so no matter how our Phins are doing.
Now looking at the different areas of our team...
-We can all see how our O-line has shifted from being a run-blocking monster to a pass-blocking beast (when healthy of course). Personally I think this is something we need to get back, but not through the draft. I believe we should go after vets at these positions. (Grove, where are you?!?!)
-Honestly, I don't understand what the love with Fasano is. He is better than all the recent TE's we've had recently but that isnt saying much. You're going to tell me you would take Fasano over Aaron Hernandez? yea didn't think so. Definitely a position we should draft but unfortunately wont.
-At QB, I dont think we draft any. Go into next year with a competition between Henne and Thigpen under the new coordinator. If Henne is our future as I like to believe, he should win it.
-Critical: new RB's and this is something I said early last season. I brought up the idea of trading Ronnie Brown which many of you did not agree with. He was doing well, healthy and had high value. Now he's not worth more than a 5th. Ricky, what can I say, a total beast even at this age, but he isnt getting any younger. On that note, I believe this draft is where we get our future backs. Depending on how our season goes from here on out, we should have a shot at Mark Ingram in the 1st round. I would then take Craig Cooper later in the draft, even if we have to "reach" for him. Remember Cooper was projected to be late 1st, early 2nd round pick at one point before his injury. Wouldnt that be something in the backfield...Ingram/Coop
-On Defense, all i think we really need is a nose tackle and depth...our Defense has the ability to be elite and they play like it...from Reshad Jones, to Vontae Davis, and the monster named Wake...we can be a top 5 D...
Now the main reason in writing this is to get your take on what positions you think we should draft high on and an idea of who are some players to look out for...I know our community here are football smart....
And yes, it does hurt to think of the off-season at this point, but we're 5-5 with a ton of injuries, on our 3rd QB and the absolute worst O-Coordinator in the league...
