Let me start off by saying this, Dan Marino is the reason why I am a football fan and the reason I love the dolphins.  First football game I ever saw it was Marino slinging passes like it was nobody's business.  But there is one reason and one reason only why we have never been able to find a franchise QB after Dan Marino, BECAUSE HE WAS THE LAST QB WE DRAFTED IN THE FIRST ROUND! 

Now I know that there are tons of QB's that turn out to be great that aren't first round picks, and there are a ton of busts as well, but look at the league right now and tell me how many are first round picks, look at all the top qbs and tell me how many are first round picks...Manning, Manning, Rivers, Mcnabb, Big Ben, Palmer, Bradford, Ryan, Flacco, Sanchez, Vince Young, Vick, and more...the only ones I can think of that turned out to be great were Brees, Romo, Rodgers, Schuab and Brady...I mean its not every day that players turn out to be that good...but my point is, all these other teams took chances and invested their top picks for QB's, and why not????  Its arguably the most important position on a football team. 

We had Marino for so long that we forgot what it was like to take a chance on a QB and take the time to develop him.  Yes Henne was a high second but its not the same as trading up a few spots and taking a QB in the top 10.  We need to take a gamble and invest our top pick and some money into a franchise qb and not hope to get lucky by finding one late in the draft and hope he's the next Romo or Brady. 

This year the QB class is stacked with Locker, Luck, Mallet and a lot more that I didn't even name because I don't follow College Football enough.  We need to do what the Jets, Ravens, Rams, and Falcons have all done to turn their franchises around and thats investing in a top qb.  Take a look at those four teams record in 2007, all were garbage..and since all have drafted a top QB and are turning things around.  We have a good team around him that wouldn't make him think he had to win games on his own.  He would come in like Flacco and Ryan did on good teams with good weapons and develop with a winning and confident attitude.  Lets hope the front office finally makes the move, but this is all if and only if Thigpen is not the answer, and im not saying he is or isn't, he has the rest of the season to prove his case. 

P.S.  The last time a QB LEEDDDD us to the Playoffs, was Chad Pennington, the 13THHHH QB the Dolphins had start since Dan Marino...I mean come on isn't this a little creepy?.  I feel like we have the curse of the great bambino and we are the red soxs but just that we can't find a QB after the Marino era.
