Everything we have seen so far from new owner Ross leads me to believe that he would love to make a big splash by going after free agent Vick. Vick would be a great fit in any offense, but most especially ours.....and even if he is not, get rid of Henning and build the darn offense around him. Vick is so dominate right now, he is right up there with the Brady's, Mannings, Brees', Rivers'. Assuming a new bargaining agreement is reached with players /owners, we should have the cap room for a franchise QB.
How happy would B Marsh be with Vick tossing him the rock. Imagine how much more room this would open for our WR's when the defense needs to have a contant spy on Vick to respect his scrambling ability..... Could there ever be a better person on the planet to run the wildcat then Vick? Vick is much much better than he ever was in Atlanta. He now studies film, plays with greater discipline, and throws with greater accuracy. Am I dreaming here that we could get him? Maybe-- but there is no way that Reed can keep both Kolb and Vick on the same roster next year and he seems committed to Kolb long term. Of course, in the event they elect to keep Vick and move Kolb instead, Kolb would make a great consolation FA prize.
Sparano and the FO can spin the Henne situation anyway they want. "it is not an indictment on his future with the team" ....yeah right Tony!.... Prior to Parcells running away from home, remember those pre-season rumors that Tuna was unhappy with Henne's progress? Those weren't rumors!. Though I completely dissaprove with Bmarsh actions during the game, clearly he does not have Henne on his Christmas card list. How about Fasano jawing at Henne during the game.... Fasano?? There is even more about this Henne situation then we all know--of that I am certain. I don't care how great Henne's knee responds, ain't know way they want him starting on Thursday.
Back to next season- obviously what happens with Thigpen in the coming weeks will affect what we do about QB for next year. I see us going after a FA (hopefully Vick) and/or drafting a QB. Unless Thigpen completely lights it up, or completely falls flat, he seems destined to be a great #2 QB for us next year. Henne could probably get us a 3 or 4 round draft pick--hopefully more. How funny that Henne can do OK at this level, gain all this experience, yet still become less valuable then he was on draft day? No way he gets us a first round pick back.
Up until this last game, I have been a supporter and defender of Henne. At this point of his career he is just not accurate enough. That is it plain and simple. Maybe he will get better one day. The tools are there. Henne is serviceable at QB..... if you are a Raider, Bill, or Panther fan. Not for a team that wants to contend for a championship. While we may not be an elite team yet, we have enough talent on both sides of the ball to be in the conversation. Vick makes us an automatic contender and yes thsi season we would be an elite team with him under center.
Last thought" How about giving Bmarsh a shot at the wildcat?? Though he threw into quadrouple coverage, damn did you see that rocket he threw????Wow, that man has an arm! A defense would have to respect that. Part of the WC problem is the Ronnie gets no credit for being able to make a throw. Maybe Henning is waiting for a key moment in a game to unleash Marsh throwing a deep ball from the Wildcat later this season. I can't be the only Bozo who saw the tight spiral rocket downfield.
