Our number two quarterback has to be smart and very experienced. Talent is not as important as his ability to learn quickly and experienced enough to be able to step in without being coached up. I believe a Jeff Garcia type is perfect here. He has lots of experience and he is currently playing in the UFL so he is in football shape. He can fill the mentor/player coach role that Pennington had before getting hurt and in a pinch you can send him in knowing there is nothing he hasn’t seen before. I think Russell or Culpepper don’t fit these requirements. When Culpepper was here I remember the knock on him was above the shoulder pads and Russell well need I say any more.
The number 3 quarterback should be some raw talent with potential. You don’t want any friction between #2 and #3 so picking someone off of another teams practice squad you get someone that knows their role as the number 3 and also is in good shape. Another option might be some undrafted QB that is still keeping their dream alive.
What do you think we need from our new quarterbacks?
