Question About The Titans? Ask MCM!

Greetings Dolphins fans! This is August West from Music City Miracles here to answer your burning Titans questions (you should get that checked out). Outside of the injuries to Kenny Britt and Vince Young, we had pretty much the best bye week ever between adding Randy Moss and watching the Colts and Texans lose. Every week is a big week in the NFL, but this one is a big one for both teams.

So fire away, and myself, our esteemed contributors, and maybe even a few heavy commenters, will be around as much as possible to answer your queries.

Also, any recs you want to give this post to keep it up top will be greatly appreciated!

What's the VY-Kerry Collins dynamic?

Should we have any hope of Chad Henne coming back?

VY is the starter by a mile

and Kerry is the back-up. By all accounts and appearances they get along very well, and Kerry has been a big help to Vince. Since week 7 of last year VY has had the starting spot by the throat, and he’s been playing great this year.

Not sure what you mean on the Henne part…

I started to get this sinking feeling a few weeks back

that they were going to bench him. It started when all the coaches started blaming EVERYTHING on the player’s execution. Cam Cameron also started scapegoating people at the end of his reign.

nope, something had to be done now to try to save the season.

Henne was handcuff by our playcaller. Pennington gives us our best shot to win with this OC because he wont handcuff him. The preferred move by fans was to axe play calling duties from our OC. But the Pennington move was our second best option for the THIS season. How it effects us in the future is yet to be seen. We can only speculate

A little turmoil here today.....

As a Titans fan, would you rather face Chad Henne? Or Chad Pennington?
(You get Pennington btw) :)

How is Moss looking in practice over the last day or 2? How much will he see the field on Sunday?

How does Moss’s arrival affect CJ? He should have less men in the box, but will he lose those goal line carries to a fade to Moss?

How is the general feeling about Jeff Fisher these days?

My first instinct is Pennington

but the Titans defense tends to feast on QBs who can get flustered, and I know that’s been a knock on Henne.

The reports from media guys I trust say Moss was spectacular today in practice. This was his first full practice with the team since guys just returned from the bye week yesterday.

It remains to be seen how Moss’ acquisition effects CJ. I have to think it helps, but I also think that most teams will look at CJ as the proven threat, and keep the same game plan until we throw them out of it. Vince throws a beautiful deep ball, so that could happen pretty quickly.

Fisher is money at the moment. The fan base was getting really sick of him through the off-season, but they like what they’ve seen this year :he had an 82% approval rate last week, and it’s probably higher since they took a risk on Moss… being too conservative was the most common complaint.

How do you think the addition of Moss would change the dynamic of your offense?

Oh btw, awesome timing on the post haha

Most of us are a little “pist” with the decision to bench Henne.

It's tough to tell, honestly

it certainly won’t hurt. Heimerdinger won’t force anything, but he wants to take advantage of Moss and what he can still do. Kenny Britt was exploding onto the scene when he hurt his hamstring last week. Britt had similar skills, but brought a lot more variety in terms of where they could throw to him. Moss has really been asked to be a deep ball specialist over the past few years, but I expect him to be used in a lot of different spots as needed.

What makes many of us think this Randy Moss situation will work is that the Titans aren’t married to him. He knows that if he’s a problem, we cut him and we’re still almost certainly the best team in the division.

I'll take this 2 ways

surprising disappointment: The offensive line/TE run blocking. it’s been a shadow of what it was last year, and the line looks to be missing Mawae and Crumpler sorely. Eugene Amano has struggled mightily to hold his own at times, but I think you could see a big improvement over the bye week. Mike Munchak is a great O-line coach, so I expect that they’ll get clicking soon.

Suprising success: rookie CB Alterraun Verner has made him self a key part of the secondary. Nick Harper was a complete dumpster fire last year, but Fisher was too stubborn to bench him. Jason McCourty won the job, but got hurt in week 2, enter Alterraun Verner (who MCM fans already loved because he’s been blogging for us through camp and the regular season), who has been spectacular. He’s making plays every week, and has come up with 2 INTs. The tremendous play of Jason Babin and Will Witherspoon are a close second and third.

I'll ask another, to maybe help move this up to the top.....

How is Javon Ringer looking? It seems every time I see him touch a ball he’s explosive.
Obviously he’s second fiddle in your rushing attack, but from afar it looks like he’d be able to perform at a starting RB level for most teams in the NFL.

How much playing time does he get?

Javon is a great spell RB

As you most likely know, when cj is in the Defense puts 8 or 9 in the box because of his big play ability.
When he comes out they put maybe 6 or 7 in the box so its an evenly matched up between O and D.
so they say “Oh, Cj is out, so everyone spread back out.” Then Ringer explodes for a nice run."
Javon is a nice RB that is a very hard worker, we trust him so much we only have 2 HBs on our active roster.
and I wouldn’t say he is a starter just yet, but he is a valuable back up, and likes to hit the hole hard for a 2,3 yard gain.
Where as CJ would come out and look for a bigger hole on the backside of blocking.

Usually he gets maybe 5-15plays a game, and maybe about 3-7 carries (somewhere around that).
he is also a very good receiver out of the backfield, because teams don’t pay as much attention to him.

I wouldn’t say he has the best juke of a RB, but he eludes tacklers, somehow.
But, he can break tackles, and is a workhorse of a RB.
in college he was stronger than his O-Line.
Hard worker, Great Guy.
We Love him, and we should use him with Cj in a 2 back backfield in the passing game.

What will the Titans do to knock Pennington out of the game?

I’m joking, but not entirely….

Though on a serious note, do you like your chances of scoring a lot of points on us this week after how we did against Baltimore? Will Fisher run a lot of screens?

if you say so

Our Small DT Jason Jones lives in the Offense’s backfield, he’ll bring alot of pressure up the middle because he is small, but,….He is quick and strong.

well you see. The three game before the Ravens game our pass protection was awesome. No sacks on Heene. But our running game sucked in those games. So we worked on our running game and was able to embarrass the Ravens. But we forgot how to pass protect. That’s the biggest problem with our team. We find a new way to lose every week. Things that were good become troublesome and visa versa week in and week out. It’s maddening. Only Sunday will tell you what Dolphin team you are facing. With 8 games it seems like we had 8 different teams.

on the 1st thing

the worst that can happen to knock Chad P out is let someone come in unblocked, like what happened to T. Romo. either that or when the pocket collapses to panick and run backwards into a DE.

2. We kinda do, i watched that game i said, what kinda game is this??
Mistakes everywhere. But, we will take as many chances on TDs as we can.

3. We don’t run many screens, and i mean about 2 0r 3.
our screens to cj are really just swing passes out of the backfield. Our screens are usually rushed and are messed up or only get about 3-8 yrds usually.
they’ll either be to the RB, TE, or Slot WR, with a small chance to the regular WRs.

the kickoff reverse in the begging

And turnovers………..
7 turnovers and we lose by 8.
Cj had a 85 yrd TD called back by a bad holding call.
and pulling VY before he could get a chance to make some late game magic.
But like i said despite those 7 turnovers, and the Long CJ run, we only lost by 8.
All titans fans know that were are better than that.

Kerry Collins rant……………..:
And KC is slow (turtle), a slow starter…. if you start him he’ll throw 2 picks, but fiish with 3 tds.
put him in in the end and he’ll make mistakes and won’t ever warm up the right way.

…think of a Old car on a snowy -4 degree wind chill day, and 2 degrees is the high for the day. if you don’t warm it up about 20mins, it’ll perform bad

Welll.... Lemme try another

Its kinda like going to football condition in the off season for the first time: Muscles are tight, low stamina, not dehydrated properly….etc, and so the 1st several weeks your not good, but by the 2-3 month your better conditioned, muslces are stretched and dehydrated right.
and so by the last month you in the best shape of the off season.: Muscles loose, tendons and ligaments loose and flexible, blood pumping strong from great hydration, muscles strong from off season training, and great stamina and endurance.

kinda like that………

Henne, Brown and yes

We discussed Bess briefly on MCM Radio last night…. I’m curious to see if the Titans put Verner or Vinny Fuller on him when they’re in the nickel. Fuller plays safety, but he’s been our NB for about three years now. He lost that spot to Verner when Jason McCourty came back so that now Verner and Finnegan start, and in nickel situations McCourty plays outside and Verner plays the 5th DB spot.

Will Fisher get fired, and come here?

Apparently he recognizes our team better than our coaches do.

Fisher kind of pumps his fists

but often combines it with this goofy thing that looks like Elaine Benes’ ‘little kicks’ dance:

I've seen Sparano do something like that

But not as high—athletic limitations.

Dan Marino (13) and Steve Nash (13) will go down in history as being the greatest passers to never win the last game of the season.

For short the Dolphins are the Phins, the Patriots are the Pats, Buccaneer Bucs, etc.

Does that make the Titans the Tits? ;)

Titans fans, I have a question...

Are the titants that good or the dolphins that bad?
I was reading your site and noticed your predictions, most of you guys think Tennessee wins by at least 2 TDs.
I’m not that worry about Moss, I’m confident Vontae Davis can contain him, Johnson is a different story.
We’re playing @ home which doesn’t guarantee the W but I don’t see a blowout by any team, comments?

to be fair

the Titans are the highest scoring team in the NFL right now (10.1 points higher than the Dolphins… you’d never know it from the national commentators), and everyone making those predictions assumed VY would start tomorrow. Plus you guys have struggled at home and we’re coming off of a bye week, where Jeff Fisher is 7-3 coming out of the bye over the past decade.

I'm thinkin' that past stats aren't going to play so much in this game,

too much new on both sides.

Btw, is the game going to be broadcast locally, August?
