Don't drink the kool aid
I think the trifecta is the best thing to happen since Jimmy Johnson came to town. But they have made lots of bone headed moves and we need to call them out on them.
For one they signed lots of free agents to guaranteed money that were total busts. I cant even remember all the names green, wilson, wilford and bunch more I can't even remember. Then they let good/contributing playes get away for no good reason like Taylor, Martin, Will Allen on IR, Ginn and a bunch more I can't even remember.
Draft picks have also been hit or miss. How many picks do we still have on this team from last year?
My point is that these 3 or 2 now are not the football gods and should be accountable for their moves. The free pass is over and we should not feel afraid to call them out on their mistakes.

Well B. Marsh and Dansby and finding Vontae Davis was awesome
God is the reason that I live, move, breath, and have my entire being.
They changed their FA ways this year
The first couple of years they tried to sign C+ players that showed some promise to big contracts and missed on all of them. I can’t think of one they got right. This year they signed two A players to huge contracts and I think they will get their moneys worth.
And Wake....

Right now?
it is way too early to grade anything for this season.
But on the balance of the first two seasons, a division title + a 7-9 finish, I’d say a solid B.
I think I’m not alone in saying that any such grade is very much tentative depending on how we do this season….another season without a playoff trip after some big money moves (Dansby, Marshall) would not be a good sign for this “rebuilding” plan.
As far as Ginn getting away I think he had to move on and get a shot at a new start.
I would have liked to have gotten a bit more in return for him but his time here had run its course.

+1
and let’s not kid ourselves, look at what Ginn has done in SF this year so far:
all of ONE catch for 19 yards…
3 returns for 54 yards…
Frankly I’ve got more faith in miami acquiring a more useful player with the 5th round choice they got for Ginn
I agree.

even if they just draft a tackling dummy it will be more productive than Ginn

I'm not saying Ginn is great
But he sure beats our 5th WR and kick returner. If we were willing to try peanut for just kick returns we should have kept Ginn.
Yeah I know what your saying but for the one Jets game he basically sucked on KO's
just as bad or worse than what we are getting now.

not so here are his stats from last year
he was #5 in the nfl for yards last year with a 24.9 yard average Cobb had 22.6
But in my opinion he still had value as a deep threat and kick returner. I think alot more value than what we get with a 5th round pick. I would have like to have seem Marshall Bess and Ginn on the field at once.

i think hes awesome.
I am starting him this weekend in fantasy with Sam Bradford (I had Vick and Big Ben is on a bye).
Did you see the catch he made last week?
Being 5th in yards only reflects the fact he had the 6th most returns.
The real stat you need to focus on is that he was 30th in yards per return. Not exactly a threat.
I used to think I had a drinking problem.
So I stopped thinking.

if you weed out the ones with <25 returns
He’s 11th. anyway it’s still better that anything else we had last year or this year. I’m not saying he’s a great or even good player but he fills two needs for us. A KR and a stretch WR that is better than Moore or Wallace. I don’t think he was worth a 5th rd pick because it left us with a big need.
He wasn't even a decent KR.
First off, you’re taking his best year as a KR. Did you look at his previous two years (2008 – Bess and Cobbs both averaged better YPR, 2007 – He wasn’t even in the top 30)?
Second, he wasn’t much of a stretch receiver either. The guy only has like 5 catches in his career of over 40 yards. I wouldn’t say he’s better than Moore or Wallace yet. They’re both rookies and have barely seen the field enough to really get any consideration.
I used to think I had a drinking problem.

things changed when we got Marshall
I don’t know if you noticed in the Pats game the nobody RB scored an easy touchdown against us. Why you ask something like that happens.
Well Moss and Welker were both double covered and TE was also being covered tight. Which left a speedy RB 1 on 1 with our LB.
If Marshall is getting double covered then you can’t double cover Ginn deep and Bess in the middle. So since Bess is the better WR Ginn is likely to get a lot more 1 on 1. And believe it or not he will win some of those 1 on 1 battles.
Before Marshall it was easy. Put two on Ginn one bump and run and one over the top and he was eliminated.
You're dreaming.
Ginn has Vernon Davis and Michael Crabtree and still can’t put up numbers. If he can’t open up the offense for the 49ers, what makes you think he’d do it for the Dolphins?
I’m not sure where you were getting the info that Ginn was getting double covered while he was a Dolphin, he wasn’t.
As for the Pats game, who do you think normally covers RB’s? Here’s a hint, it’s the LB’s. It wouldn’t have mattered what team we were playing, the coverage would have been the same.
I used to think I had a drinking problem.
So I stopped thinking.
not too bad
Here are his numbers from Sunday playing against a good Green Bay team. I would take these numbers over Roberto Wallace or Morlon Morre.
rec 2-26 long of 17
kick ret 5 ret avg 36 yards long of 61
punt ret 2-4 long of 11
As for who covers RB if you did not have 5- 6 guys covering 3 guys in the end zone we might have had help in the middle. But because everyone followed those 3 into the end zone there was nobody there to tacke him when he caught a 5 yard pass.
Ginn
Those numbers came against a pretty good Eagles team, not Green bay team. The numbers are not that impressive. Sure he has some games where he does a good job returning kicks, but he has other games where does not have good return numbers at all. He has never really been a very good punter returner and last season was his only year as an above average kick returner, but his only scores came in one game against the Jets.
You can also talk about Ginn’s ability to spread the field, but who cares when you struggle to catch the ball? He’s not showing he’s much of a deep threat in San Fran. Overally, I don’t see why you’re trying to use his numbers as a 49er to try and justify his potential production as a Dolphin. He had 3 years to try and justify his potential production as a Dolphin, but failed.
You also have to consider that Ginn’s trade didn’t open a roster spot for Roberto Wallace, but it also provided us with the pick for Nolan Carroll.
The end equation:
Wallace + Carroll > Ginn.
I don't love Ginn
But I feel we traded him away and left ourselves a hole when it comes to speed and returning.
I also think it’s too soon to proclaim Wallace or Carroll anything but warm bodies.
Same way I feel they let JT get away and left us a hole at OLB. After Wake and Misi it’s pretty slim and it did not have to be that way.
In the end
Ginn was only a warm body. I’’d rather have two players who have good potential rather than have one player who failed to reach his potential.
one more thing
I’m not claiming he has 80 rec 1000 yard year. But he helps the team alot more than our 4th and 5th WR. Maybe he gets 500 yards and opens up the field for the offense on 3 and 4 WR sets.
I understand there's frustration after we took one on the chin against NE but...
not having moved on from Ginn? Is this what it has come to? There’s clutching at straws and then there’s….never mind!
LOL Its the things that you don't say that make me laugh the most.

Has Caroll even had a shot at returning during the season yet?
And why haven’t we seen him out there instead of Sapp?
Caroll were returning punts againsit the pats
but almost all of them went for Touchbacks. Something Carpenter should do more frequently.

You know I really was down on Ginns play since he has been a Phin.. but even I think we shoulda kept him at least this season to see how he woulda done with Marshall on the field
Henne needs to step up
B Marshall + B Hartline D Bess = The 2nd comming of The Killer B's MPF 04/17/10
If I took the time to check for errors I would forget what I was trying to say! Deal !
Tyhe injury may not have happend here.. hey.. dont get me wrong I was VERY VOCAL about ditching him the last 2 years. BUT he woulda taken some heat offa Marshall at times AND he may have gotten one or 2 big plays to bring home a win this season.
I think Ginn was ok for one game changing performance this season weather it be a return for a TD when we seriously needed it or a long bomb that he actually caught and won us the game. And his cost was not a bank breaker.. Im not so sure a 5th round pick was worth more then having him here for the season thats all.

B Marshall + B Hartline D Bess = The 2nd comming of The Killer B's MPF 04/17/10

now thats a logical answer.
So if Marshar busts his knee next week that trade is a bust.
I say a solid D
Because this team looks lost out there. This team has no direction and after two full seasons this team is going down hill quick.the only good move this regime made was signing Pennington.
Downhill?
If you think this team has been going downhill and that Pennington is the only good signing, then you are suffering from extreme CLS. Even with Miami’s 11-5 record in 2008, this is a better team than we fielded during that season.
Really?
you think getting our asses handed to us by division foes on our own field is heading in the right direction? Also if were a better team now we would have won those games Right? So I will keep CLSing and you keep drinkin the koolaid cuz this regime is gone after this year,I guarantee it!
Really
A lot of great teams have had similar tough losses. I happened to the Giants multiple times in 2007 and the Steelers got their butts kicked by the Titans in 2008 as well. These games are ugly, but it happens. If you want immediate satisfaction, you might as well jump ship and jump aboard the Jets and/or Vikngs bandwagon and settle for (potentially) immediate satisfaction while Miami builds their youth. This is a young team and willgo through growing pains, but they’re getting there.
Only
it wasnt a tough loss it was an asskicking which with our talent shoudnt be happening. All Im saying is were being outcoached and im sick of it. We havent had a good coach since God Shula.
The others were too
When I referenced the Giants and Steelers, I was pointing out they got their butts kicked duing their seasons as Super Bowl Champions as well. They had the best talent in the league that year and it still happened.
As for Monday night, some of it was piss poor execution as well. Blocked FGs, punts, and kickoff returns for touchdowns isn’t a matter of being outcoached, but of the players failing at basic assignments. If you consider, Miami went into halftime with a 7-6 lead and held the #1 NFL offense to 2 FGs in the first half. The problem was the noticeable level of morale by the team after New England had the TD to make it 27-14. You can blame that on the staff for not keeping ther players motivated and for the players to seemingly give up. On the other hand, I’m not ready to fire the entire staff because of the one game. I’d much rather kick the overreacting, criticizing fan off the bandwagon instead.

I don't hink anyone is over reacting.
At least not here. The worst grade was a single C. We are all loyal fans but this is not 2008 going 11-5 after 1-15 the year before.
The 2008 club
The 2008 club also faced much easier opponents. I think that year set the bar too high for some expectations. Our record was worse last year, but overall I think the team was better. It’s too early to say this team is worse than last year’s 7-9 club so I’m not inclined to say this is a team going downhill.
So what your saying is,awwe hell who am I kidding, what are you saying.
Pennington the only good fa signing? lets just go on free agency then. Karlos Dansby,Brandon Marshall,Tony starks, neither of these three are any good?
Drafting:
Jake Long-going on third year,2 pro bowls
Chad Henne-5,yes count em 5 fourth quarter comebacks
Davone Bess-undrafted,top 3 slot reciever
Cameron Wake-pretty much consider this part of the draft, but high motored, never quit motor
Jerry-Starter found in the third round
Clemons-Starter found in the fifth round
Langford-starter since he was drafted in the first round
Odrick-Starter til he got hurt
Hartline-sophmore slump? But high production his first year
Smith-another sophmore slump, just wait til he gets his confidence back
After 3 years,id rank them at a C grade, most of that first season was filled with stop gap players anyways, considering this team needed a complete overhaul

They coached bad talent well, but can’t seem to coach good talent when it’s there. Everything is salvagable so far, but they need to start adapting, or they’ll get fired by this year, or the next.
since this is a bye week....hypothetical: If we finish 8-8 and miss the playoffs...
do you keep the HC?
It'd depend on the manner of the finish
the manner with which the games carry out, and whether they even show a little hint of learning from their mistakes.
Firing Bonamego was a decent change
Sparano actually had the nads to sack someone he’s vehemently defended in the past.
Well I think ST was one area where Tony's hand was forced...
I tend to think of Sparano as being very loyal and at times it is a liability (exhibit A: Henning).
I think losses like the one we had last weekend will bode very poorly for the HC because we looked completely out of over depth at times in that game, as opposed to a game going down to the wire and our team losing due to a great play or stroke of luck..
Pasqualoni?
Sparano was always loyal to Pasqualoni as well, but he was dumped. While Henning may not be the play-caller we all wish he could be, we also have to consider the impact it would have on our team. What are the two things that often contribute young to QBs failing? Being sacked consistently and changing offensive coordinators often. This is Henne’s second season starting at QB and we have to consider any setbacks that could be occurred if Henning was fired. Besides that, at this point who else is out there that could replace him? Week 5 of the NFL season is not the time to hire a new OC and have a new system implemented…
don't tell that to the Bills

The front office
I don’t think letting players like Ted Ginn, Jason Taylor, or David Martin were bad moves really. Miami had Fasano and obviously had faith in Cameron Wake and Koa Misi, who have both looked pretty good so far.
For years people have been calling for Ginn to be cut and now that he is traded people think it was a bad move. Ginn was pretty good as a return man, but that was about it. With the players Miami has at WRs now, it isn’t even a strong possibility he would be the #4 WR over Roberto Wallace, thus making him inactive on gamedays anyways. Besides, remember all the love people gave to Nolan Carroll? We got him because of Ginn. If he turns into somthing within the next few years, you’ll be talking about how great a deal it turned out.
The Dolphins did have their fair share of busts, but through free agency and the draft. Can you name a front office who hasn’t busted on a player? Even the great personnel man Belichek is whiffed on signing Donte Stallworth and Joey Galloway. He also swung and missed on Chad Jackson and a bunch of other players. This happens all the time so we’re going to have to deal with it. Just because we believe Parcells is a great personnel man and has a nose for talent, a compliment he deserves, does not mean that he is going to be 100% correct on all personnel decisions.
The loss was ugly, but this isn’t a time to start considering everything from releasing JT and Porter, drafting Henne, trading Ginn, or putting Will Allen on the IR were huge mistakes leading to the downfall. This team is still a very young team and even though there may have been a few seps back (the OL for example) during the past year, I do think the future for Miami does look very bright.

Exactly ^^^
The great FO’s see mistakes and cut their losses. Belichek does this as well as anybody — they’ve made as many mistakes, but they don’t hang on to the mistakes. I think our FO has done a decent job of seeing mistakes and letting them go (Ginn, White, etc.) Also, back in 2008, we filled the team with stop gap type players, because getting A players would’ve only cured a few weaknesses, and our team was full of weaknesses, so that was the right approach and I think everyone could agree on that.

thank u sdelnois
thats how i have been feeling about this regime since last season
Every organization hits or misses
Its part of football. Injuries can’t be predict, a guys football smarts and determination to better himself can not be predicted (no matter what is said)
If this was the case, Welker and Bess would not be UDFA. Terrell Davis and Tom Brady would have been picked earlier in the draft.
Brees would have been signed over Culpepper.
Draft busts dating back forever would never be drafted.
The Patriots Suck
but how have we fared compared to other teams
Nobody is perfect but after 2008 everyone thought they were the football GODS!!! after 2+ years I think they are a good front office but not beyond criticism. They have made their fare share of “what are you thinking”.
Come one who here said: good ridense Jason Taylor and Jason Allen.
Compared to other teams...
Compared to other teams I think Miami has done very well. Would you rather mortgage the future like the Vikings and Jets and trade all your picks for questionable players witth 1 year contracts? Let’s look at the Patriots as a team to compare drafts since 208 when Parcells arrived:
2008 Patriots draft: Jerod Mayo, Terrence Wheatley, Shawn Crable, Kevin O’Connell, Jonathan Wilhite, Matthew Slater, Bo Rudd.
2008 Dolphins: Jake Long, Phillip Merling, Chad Henne, Kendall Langford, Shawn Murphy, Jalen Parmele, Donald Thomas, Lex Hilliard, Lionel Dotson. Also signed Davone Bess through undrafted free agents.
2009 Patriots: Patrick Chung, Ron Brace, Darius Butler, Sebastian Vollmer, Brandon Tate, Tyrone McKenzie, Rich Ohrnberger, George Bussey, Jake Ingram, Myron Pryor, Julian Edelman, Darryl Richard.
2009 Dolphins: Vontae Davis, Pat White, Sean Smith, Patrick Turner, Brian Hartline, John Nalbone, Chris Clemons, Andrew Gardner, JD Folsom.
2010 Patriots: Devin McCourty, Ron Growkowski, Jermaine Cunningham, Brandon Spikes, Taylor Price, Aaron Hernandez, Zoltan Mesko, Ted Larsen, Thomas Welch, Brandon Deadrick, Kade Weston, Zac Robinson.
2010 Dolphins: Jared Odrick, Koa Misi, John Jerry, AJ Edds, Nolan Carroll, Reshad Jones,Chris McCoy, AJ Spitler. Also used a draft pick to trade for Brandon Marshall and signed undrafted free agents Marlon Moore and Roberto Wallace.
Seems to me both had big hits early in the first round (Jake Long, Jerod Mayo), big misses in the second (Pat White, Darius Butler, Terrence Wheatley, Ron Brace), a few disappointments in the third (Shawn Murphy, Shawn Crable, Kevin O’Connell), and some gems later on (Chris Clemons, Davone Bess, Julian Edelman).
Heck, I say we compared pretty well even against a team coached by possibly the best personnel man.
what about free agents
I think I can count on one hand the free agent hits and I need two hands to count the high profile free agent misses. I don’t count free agents that probably had no chance anyway.
See you guys are blinded by pure faith that every thing they do is good and that they are the best. I’m not saying they are doing a bad job or get rid of them. All I’m saying is that they are not the football gods. And we are not bandwagon fans because we critisize them
Free agents signed by Miami's FO since 2008
Good signings: Lousaka Polite, Davone Bess, Dan Carpenter, Joe Berger, Randy Starks, Tyrone Culver. Richie Incognito may soon join this category.
Bad signings: Ernest Wilford, Eric Green
Neutral: Justin Smiley, Jake Grove
I think all of the good signings deserve to be up on that list and that does not include the trades of Anthony Fasano and Akin Ayodele. Ayodele did play good in 2008. I do think trading a 4th round pick for both of those players was a good deal. You may also question Culver being on the list, but he’s been a solid backup and has done a good job in his role when he’s in the game.
Ernest Wilford and Eric Green were no doubt busts, but every team fails on FA signings. The good thing about those signings is that Ernest Wilford stayed on the inactive list and Eric Green didn’t even make it to the season. At least Miami cut their losses quick with their FA busts. You can’t expect the FO to hit it 100% with all the signings either, but you can expect them to recognize their weaknesses and cut them, whichthey did with these guys.
I put Smiley and Grove in the neutral side becaue they wee signed to bigger contracts and they both performed well. Their problems were staying healthy, thus the front office cut their losses with these guys and went elsewhere. If these two were able to stay healthy, they’d still be on the roster and considered a good signing.
don't forget Wake.

it’s the hit that matters more than the misses like Jake Long, Chad Henne, Vontae Davis, Chris Clemons, Kendall Langford and more.
