*NOT FOOTBAL RELATED* I'M GOING TO SEE BOB DYLAN TONITE!
Since it's BYE week, and there's nothing to talk about other than Chad Henne & our .500 record at the quarter mark in the seaon I figured I'd give us all something to be excited about; and by "us all" I mean TCP & I lol. Tonight, I, Christopher Lucas, will fulfill my lifelong dream of seeing Bob Dylan LIVE, in the flesh, at the Tampa Bay SunDome!!
Where will I be stationed during this historic moment in my life you ask? Front row, center. Who will be sharing in this experience with me you may also be wondering to yourselves? The best man in my wedding, my best friend...MY FATHER. Him & I have shared some pretty awesome times. We saw UM come from behind to topple UF in 2003. We saw Foreigner in all it's super-group wonder. We paid out the butt to see Eric Clapton in the nosebleed section, on the side of the stage, "side" is used loosely as it was closer to behind the stage, in front of a pack of 70 year-old hippies. We drove 3 hours south of Orlando to pay cash for a 1948 Martin 00-17 (the first model guitar Dylan ever played). And most recently we traveled to Atlanta to see The Tallest Man On Earth show, and drink cheap beers. Also, to raise his stock even higher; he's funded the trip to Miami this weekend for the UM/FSU game, just so I can pop a surprise proposal to my soon-to-be fiancee on Sunday where he proposed to my Mom.
Anyway, this ended up being more than just a "I'm seeing Dylan tonite!" post and became a "hey check out how awesome my Dad is" post, so I'll wrap it up.
On Monday, I'll post pictures of the show, the game & my subsequent engagement, regardless of your interest ;)
I'll end this on a high note -- GO CANES!!!

Yeah for some Townes is an acquired taste but nothing more relaxing in the world to me.
I don’t think I will make it plus I am home today so I can watch the Rangers slap the Rays around again. I guess I could have been there to see both in person.
Yeah your dad sounds cool. My old man would not have a clue who he is even though age wise he should be right in his wheel house.

He likes pretty much everything I like, in the vein of folk etc
But he’s also a victim of my other family members awful taste.
To relax I have to listen to Fruit Bats or Grozzly Bear, Townes stirs up way too many emotions and I end up Jes singing along or reading too far into everything lol
Ooh I forgot the playlets started in the MLB. More of a football/basketball/golf guy myself. Stoked on the HEAT lol
That’s too bad about your dad, why’s that if you don’t mind my asking.

Maybe when they get off our football field.
It always has a lot to do with ownership and I don’t know anything about the present owners. I did see the article where someone released their financials and they basically lied to the city of Miami as to the amount of money they had been making by a huge amount to get them to pay for more of the stadium. Not sure that is a good way to get off on a good foot with the city.

If I was the city of Miami I would be up in arms over being duped.
I actually wonder if the city, based on the fact that they acted in good faith, could sue the owners.

Noone is really too happy about it from everything I've heard.
The worst part IMO is that the cane alum don’t want to go to the games in Davie, and everyone was so turned off about the “Miami” Marlins that noone even bought the OB scoreboard or anything. They have section end caps signed by Dorsey and the like going for like $10 online.
All to endorse a terrible team that doesn’t bring much revenue to the city and the only time they did it survived only long enough to dismantle the team and spend the rest of the decade in syberia.
Dade county in general has become crap. City officials blow, the cops are dicks, and they waste millions on a baseball stadium that will rarely see 3/4 capacity instead of making the travel to AAA to see the one team that’s creating hype enough to merit bandwagoners less frightening and rapetastic lolol

Not my cup of tea, but you go and have a blast !!
I love concerts, and am able to hit quite a few from the big festivals to the small clubs. My taste is a bit more harder, although I’ve endured several R&B shows and MF’n Celion Dion,….ugh ! As the saying goes,….happy Wife, happy life.
Next week I got Papa Roach, in a large bar here in Toledo !!! And Social Distortion is up in Detroit here shortly as well.
And,…I never left a concert broken-hearted…
Marching to the beat of a different drummer since 1965...
I am a big fan of Social D!

Ive been to shows of all shapes and sizes but I’ve always wanted to see me some Bob Dylan and he hasnt been around here for bout 4 yrs. Social D would be awesome, love me some old school punk. I saw the descendents one time way back when. Almost saw black flag when Rollins was the front man.

Black Flag back in the day would have been amazing. I'm not huge on Rollins Band, it's like a cookie cutter copy of black flag with a dent in the side lol
I saw Bad Religion after they started to suck but it was still pretty cool. I got a car too late to have made it to most of the shows I should have back when I was 12/13.

GET READY FOR DISSAPOINTMENT!!
I am a huge dylan fan. I have seen him in concert many times. You won’t be able to make out what he is saying most of the time. Also, you will have a hard time determining what songs he is singing. Most of them change so much from the commercial version they are almost impossible to tell while at the concert.
If you can get a recording of the show after the performance. You can find soundboard recordings available from bootleggers on the internet almost anywhere. Once you listen to the recording over and over you will begin to understand the songs and some of what he is saying. Otherwise there is no chance.
The energy is great at his shows. But these days that is about it. He can’t play guitar anymore or piano. If he is playing an instrument it is not in the mix and you certainly can’t hear it.
I hope you have fun and get a recording because then you can see just how incredible it is. But it is very hard to determine what is happening when you are acutally there.
i really enjoyed it actually
we had front row seats so they let us stand up against the stage the whole time & i could make out most of what he was saying & he played a great setlist, even threw in All Along The Watchtower as a third encore song (first time this tour he’s done that).
While my biggest adoration of Dylan is his early folk/blues music & songwriting, I realize that’s it’s not just Bob Dylan anymore, he has his band, he has Charlie Sexton on lead so it’s more rock driven than ambiance. I wish i could have seen protest songs and unity, but i was born a few decades too late for that. The band gels well together, he’s in great shape now, he danced, he played a few solos on the guitar, belted out some harmonica and let everyone in the band have their chance in the spotlight which I thought was real humble of a guy who is a demi god behind only Dan Marino lol
The best part was getting to share it with my dad though. As much as I enjoy air jamming along with them it’s cool to see him grinning and being able to relax since he’s always working.

i saw dylan play in paris in 2008 for the first time, after years of ardent fandom and love, and missing him all over the country it seemed. he was awesome, relatively clear, lots of energy. started the show with ’cat’s in the well’ — and played a lot of other stuff everyone knew. some people can’t ‘hear’ him and others can. ironically, i had a chance to hear the rolling thunder review in gainesville in 76 and was too stupid to know to go. joan baez and others were playing.,
have to laugh at robert zimmerman stealing from woody; he was obviously a talent ready to bust out and woody just took him further. dylan in the early 60s was an artistic force of nature and he was pulling in everything and turning it into pearls; he also confounded those that wanted to piss on the us from overseas, even as he criticized a lot of us policies .
thanks the thoughts on your dad….great attitude!
Yes. we can!
thank you sir
i wish i could have seen him back in his FREEWHEELIN days for sure, but I’m just glad to have seen him in my lifetime.

Say Bobby D back in the day with
the Grateful Dead. Dylan played Friday night and the Dead played the next night. Needless to say there was a lot hallucinating going on!
Miami Dolphin fan since 1971. Ricky Williams for starting RB! The #19 is NOT cursed. Trust the TRIUMVERATE!! Chad Henne will be the next Miami Dolphins QB to win a Super Bowl. Looking good Mr Sparano.
nitrous! ah the hippie crack

wow sounds like you got a great show!
you will remember it forever.
anytime he pulls out watchtower you are in for a treat. I am glad he still has it in the tank! I have heard him play with the greatful dead among many others and he and the rest of the dead were so tweeked out at a show he sang…"i lieeeeeterrrlllllyyyy doooooo not knowwww what Im singinnggggg nowwwww into the microphone! Stopped for awhile and danced and then picked it back up later.
IMO Bob Dylan is the greatest american poet to have ever lived.
What is cinderella sweeping up on desolation row anyway?
haha now that would be awesome to see. i think he's 100% sober now, not even the alkie :o
yeah I check that boblinks.com site to see the setlists so i know what i’m in for & i didnt see all along the watchtower @ all, so it was pretty rad. plus i had my Hendrix shirt on so everyone knew what was up lol
I agree with you there man, his tribute to Woody is flat out unmatched, especially when you consider he was like 23 when he wrote it. He’s hands-down my second favorite artist of all time. He’s only trumped by the Fruit Bats in my heart but he definitely my musical inspiration.
ugh i wanted to hear that song soo bad! Hurricane is what I wanted to hear more than anything but I dont think he’s played that song since the 70’s lol

Well Dylan stole most of what he knew from Woody and Woody stole most of what he knew
from Leadbelly. Its the folk tradition. If your not stealing then your not doing it right!

LOL They all steal from each other.
Reportedly when Dylan was in Austin he once asked to meet Townes. When he told Townes he loved his music Townes just replied “yeah apparently”! Cocky as F but funny as hell too.

First and only concert I have ever been to where anyone not there has heard of the performer/s
was Eric Clapton in Madison Square Garden in Sep 2006. We also had a small gathering in a conference type room under the Garden after the show and Clapton came down and greeted all 30-35 of us.

LOL, then good for you!
I am engaged to the most wonderful woman (my avatar in case you couldn’t guess). I am 56 and she is 40 (look at the avi & tell me she doesn’t look fabulous!)
I forgot earlier. I heard & met Arlo Guthrie about 20 years ago when he lived in Sebastian, FL. And I got to meet another guy who was a famous rocker (can not think of his name, but I can see his face! – damn age thing) at the same time as Arlo. Got to sit in the guy’s bus and shoot the shit with him.
