The Dolphins are now in 3rd place in the AFC East at 2-2 (1-2 in division). The worst part about it is that we lost these games at home to division opponents. Next time we face the Jets and the Patriots it will be in their house. It's also funny how this regime puts so much emphasis on special teams, and yet it's our special teams that cost us the game. Here's some topics from the game.
Protect This House
For starter, you can't blame this loss on the defense. Our defense played one hell of a game in the first half. This was the first real test for our secondary, and they didn't disappoint. Vonate Davis, Sean Smith and Jason Allen held Randy Moss to 0 catches, and held Wes Welker to under 70 yards in receiving? The next best thing was Brandon Tate with 4 catches for 39 yards.Cam Wake was a disturbance. With 3 sacks in 4 games he has certified himself as the teams top pass rusher. When your defense is playing well to start off the game, you don't want to wear them out by stalling on offense, or in this case special teams...
Point the Finger
Just because players aren't executing, it doesn't necessarily mean it's the coaches fault. Dan Henning can't get open on routes, he can't throw interceptions, and he can't catch. Same goes for special teams coach John Bonamego. I'm sure the FO will evaluate the film and make a decision. Erik Walden lost his job last week because of a missed assignment on ST. So if Bonamego is the problem I guarantee you, he won't be in Miami for long.
Secondary
So apparently the Patriots were supposed to have a very weak secondary. This is the same secondary Mark Sanchez picked apart a couple weeks ago The BUFFALO BILLS of all people generated offense on this secondary, So you would think our passing offense was due for another big game right? Not to mention, their 2 starting cornerbacks consisted of a rookie in Devin McCourty and a special teamer in Kyle Arrington. Marshall was clearly taken out the game, but Davone Bess was the only other receiver benefiting from it. But I don't believe Marshall was paid 50 million to become a decoy. Henne and Marshall have some chemistry issues the need to fix.
The defenses don't get any worse than this
Marshall needs to get on the same page as Henne and Brian Hartline's play has been inconsistent so far this year. We can't expect to put our passing game on Bess's shoulders every game. The fact that we struggled against a suspect secondary such as this is not promising. And New England's secondary is the worst we'll be facing in a while...
- Green Bay Packers defense featuring a DPOY in Charles Woodson
- Pittsburgh Steelers defense who is back to 08' form
- Cincinnati Bengals defense witch has one of the best corner cornerback tandems in the league with Leon Hall and Jonathan Joseph
- Baltimore Ravens defense who gets Ed Reed back from PUP
needless to say Henne and our receivers need to tighten up...
