DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS……RIGHT ?
The Dolphins sacked Roethlisberger three times, hit him three more times, recovered seven tackles for loss, forced four fumbles … and lost. (PALM BEACH POST) Our defense played well enough to win this one, but we lost.
I have said this many times before – but the NFL is now an OFFENSE BASED – PASSING LEAGUE.
Dan Marino could have gotten us into field goal range, Manning, Brady, Brees… the list goes on and on.
I think Henne could have made this happen also – if he had better play calls and also more speed on offense, at RB, TE and WR.
Our offense is outdated, based on big, bruising running backs, more of a blocking TE, and "play action" passing, with very few downfield throws. We are NOT dynamic, we are predictable and slow. It seems like we must play a "perfect" game to beat the better teams, and they just have to wait until our usual 4th quarter collapse on defense. We also need more speed off the edge at DE and OLB. Wake is the most dangerous player on this defense right now… we need more players like him.
Scoring is way up in the NFL, and Defense is much harder to play. The offense knows where to go, and what the play is – the defense reacts. This is why Miami needs to build a more potent passing offense, with a speed WR, a 3rd down running back (scat back type) quick and smaller and a TE who can stretch the field also. Funny, but our OLINE is already better at pass blocking than run blocking. This season is once again proving that our current philosophy on offense DOES NOT WORK.
Time to fire Dan Henning after the season.
Time to draft a speedy WR, a quick RB for kickoffs and 3rd downs, and a better TE.
Maybe then Henne can develop into a playoff QB…
GO DOLPHINS…
