Hey, everyone, I'm starting a little series of posts from now to week 16 so we can take a look at the playoff picture.
Week 6 is in the books, and our beloved Dolphins are 3-2. Not too shabby, but considered we started 2-0, we should have beaten either the Pats or the Jets and be 4-1.
Either way, we are currently 3rd in the AFC East behind the Pats and the Jets. Lets see who would make it to the playoffs if they started right now...
All the teams in bold won the division and make the playoffs, the teams in italics made it to the playoffs through wild card.
AFC East
New York Jets 5-1
Miami Dolphins 3-2
Buffalo Bills 0-5
AFC North
Baltimore Ravens 4-2
Cleveland Browns 1-5
AFC South
Tennessee Titans 4-2
Houston Texans 4-2
AFC West
Oakland Raiders 2-4
Denver Broncos 2-4
Seeds:
1. New York Jets
2. Pittsburgh Steelers
3. Tennessee Titans
4. Kansas City Cheifs
5. New England Patriots
6. Houston Texans
A bit surprising to see the Jets at the top seed, Steelers with the BYE, Titans and Chiefs in the playoffs. Strange season so far...
Let's take a look at the NFC now...
NFC East
New York Giants 4-2
Dallas Cowboys 1-4
NFC North
Chicago Bears 4-2
Detroit Lions 1-5
NFC South
Atlanta Falcons 4-2
NFC West
Seattle Seahawks 3-2
St. Louis Rams 3-3
Seeds:
1. New York Giants
2. Chicago Bears
3. Atlanta Falcons
4. Arizona Cardinals
5. New Orleans Saints
6. Philadelphia Eagles
Many surprises so far this season. Like many of the "experts" have been saying for some time now, it has been a strange season in the NFL. And it has, there have been a lot of surprises, not only teams, but players, too.
Who thought that Arian Foster would be leading the league in rushing through 6 weeks?
Who would have thought that Brandon Lloyd would be leading the league in receiving yards through week 6?
Who would have thought that Kyle Orton would be second in the league, only to Philip Rivers, in passing yards through week 6?
Who would have thought that the Chargers would be 3rd in their division behind Oakland and KC?
Who would have thought that Arizona is still at the top of the NFC West and that the 49ers would start off with 1 win through 6 games?
Who would have thought that the Cowboys would start 1-4 this season?
It has been a very strange year in the NFL...
Now back to the playoff picture: If the playoffs started today, we would be on the outside looking in. Thankfully, we are still in it, it is still very early in the season, and we have time to make up for our two devastating home losses to division rivals. We now need to focus on solidifying our special teams, and playing more consistently.
Our next game is going to be very tough. We play the Steelers in the magic city (Miami), where we have not won yet. The Steelers, in my opinion, now with Big Ben back, are the best/hottest team in the NFL.
While some may argue otherwise, if we come out of that game with a win, we will be in very good shape. Losing this game will not kill us, but this game is much more important to our race to the playoffs than it may seem.
