Vincent Jackson, an Elite WR?

Hey everyone.  I wanted to talk about Vincent Jackson... A WR for the San Diego Chargers.  As you know, Vincent Jackson has not played this year because of a contract dispute and his desire to be paid like a top 5 NFL WR.  Over my time on this site I encountered people that just rave about him and his abilities so I come here now in this post to ask you.

How good was / is Vincent Jackson really?

Does it look like the San Diego Chargers are missing Vincent Jackson?  I mean, Phillip Rivers is throwing for 400 yards a game, Antonio Gates is the best TE in the NFL and it seems like Malcolm Floyd has 200 yards every week.  So is Vincent Jackson still elite?  I always said he was the beneficiary of an offense.  Anyone believe me now?

If anything, Vincent Jackson has lost all leverage in his contract demands.  The Chargers proved that Vincent Jackson did not make the San Diego Chargers, the San Diego Chargers made him.

A Top 10 NFL WR?  A Top 20 NFL WR?  I think not, more like a top 5 bonehead for holding out and demanding money that he didn't deserve in the first place.

Go Dolphins.

he's defintely not

Antonio Gates is the top dog on the Chargers and as long as he’s playing the Chargers passing game will be fine

I probably know Judo! How many of you can make the same boast?

He's the product of being a number 1 in a passing offense

Look what Malcolm floyd is doing very good stats. VJ is a good receiver but his stats are inflated for being in a passing offense

I always though he was a good WR but not elite

But he is a number 1 WR, the only WR’s in the NFL i would put ahead of him are Marshall, andre johnson, Fitzgerald, Moss, wayne, Austin, desean jackson, calvin johnson, roddy white, so i would say he is around #11.

He is not top 5

but he’s not as overrated as you make it seem.
Malcom Floyd is a very talented receiver, he’s not a scrub you can just plug into a system.

@Dolphins21MZ I’d put Greg Jennings(the GJ of last year), Steve Smith, and Anquan Boldin ahead of him as well.

Smith is still in top 10, no qb will make you look shabby. Man can work behind the LOS,

slant, flats, and long. Out of all the receivers, Marshall and Smith can work the whole field and get physical, while doing so.

Damn the sheriff, Bring on MARSHALL LAW

6'5' 230 lbs

68 catches 1178yds 9tds 17.2yds per reception

Not to shabby!

I would take him over Jennings, Smith and Boldin

He would look really nice in Aqua and Orange along side BM

Just sayin.

I wonder how he would do outside the AFCW

Don't forget

Marshall played in the AFCW too, so if you discount Vjax’s stats because of the division he played in then the same knock can be had for Marshall’s stats.

Well, ofcourse. But you have to look at what he does against some of the better teams

he is on track for
108 catches. (has 27)
1360 yards (has 340)
average 12.7
4 TDs (has 1)
0 FUM

This was against three very good team, with the best game coming against NYJ
If you take away the BUF game where he had 6.6 YPC, his YPc sky rockets.

Oh, no doubt. Marshall is killer.

Just saying that I think Vincent Jackson is a really good receiver too. Brandon Marshall put up huge numbers against the AFC West just like Vincent Jackson has put up awesome numbers against the same division. Brandon’s success has translated well and I think Vincent Jackson’s will also translate.

I don't have game logs, but doing well in the AFC W isn't saying much if you don't do so hot

when you go against other teams outside the division, because the AFC W hasn’t been competitive in a while, this is why the Chargers always got to the playoffs, but never went anywhere.

It's the NFL

Even though competition isn’t the best in the AFC West, I don’t think it matters what division he plays in because there are 10 other teams on the schedule that he balls on year in and year out…

Also

Did we somehow forget he plays Nnamdi Asomugha and Champ Bailey twice a year? Four of those six games come against some great CBs.

the difference

between all those big names is they proved it..and stayed at it longer, i really do feel after seeing M.Floyd this year, that its more of P.Rivers thats more or less the top 5 QB in the NFL, hes elite and can make ted ginn look good

So, then Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne

are a product of Peyton Manning? Clearly since Garcon and Collie can produce?

Its a flawed argument.

I'm shocked DRoyce

it’s been about month since you told us how much he sucks and I was starting to think you had looked at his career stats and/or game film but I see you still haven’t.

by haildanhenningnow on Oct 15, 2010 5:10 AM EDT reply actions

regardless of who good or great he is.. the contract issue and attitude is a problem..

otherwise, I’d love to have him here! It’s the one thing I just can’t forget and stop thinking about since the pre-season; having that solid, high-end #2 receiver alongside Marshall… My God, to only think what this offense would look like if defenses had to try and match TWO big time receivers! Marshall not being doubled … wow.. Thats the #1 thing I want for next season is another big time receiver because that will make a huge difference for this passing attack.. HUGE! Is Vincent Jackson the answer? Doubt it.. would I take him here? Sure! but just get someone…get another high end WR …PLEASE! they wont regret it!

Never meant to make your agent cry, hard to trade you with 2 DUIs

sorry vince jackson…

Damn song is stuck in my head all day because someone had to post it in fanshots (to the tune of Sorry Mrs. Jackson)

"The first thing I do when I get out of bed and feel the jolt in my knees is think of Roy Winston. On the second step, my calcified Adam's apple starts bobbing, and I think of Carl Eller. A few more steps in the dark and it's Willie Lanier. By the time I get to the bathroom, I'm flashing back to Dick Butkus and Ray Nitschke. And when the light finally comes on, I just hope that somewhere in the darkness they're thinking of me, too" - Larry Csonka.
