LB Question.

I want to here some of your opinions. Shawne Merriman came up in a fan post and i was wondering.

Star-divide

Who would you rather have on your team, Shawne Merriman or Channing Crowder?

SM-2005-2010

60 games, 232 tackles, 43.5 sacks

CC-2005-2010

71 games, 430 tackles, 2.5 sacks

Both are 26 and injury prone. So str8 up who would it be? No trading involved. Simply him or him. Who would you pick to be on your team?

Channing Crowder.

Merriman’s a total douchebag, who beats women (allegedly). And he’s an OLB…not the same position as Crowder…

Besides that number of sacks for Merriman is deceiving because 39.5 of the 43.5 were from the years 2005-2007. He was great back then, but he’s never been completely healthy since. He did however start 14 games in 2009 but only had 4 sacks. The fact is, Merriman is a HAS BEEN.

merriman, since his PE – suspension has been … um terrible

now if you want to put him back on the juice well, then maybe he’d be worth the money he wants….

but otherwise there is a serious disconnect between his level of play and his opinion of his level of play.
kind of like joey porter and the team just rid themselves of that cancer….

not saying i want him

just pointing out he was suspended the 1st 4 games of the 06 season. he had 17 sacks after coming back that season and i think 12.5 the next

by dhall25 on Oct 14, 2010 1:30 AM EDT up reply actions

lets dismiss the 06 season

because that was the year he juiced…

but has he had 17 sacks total since then? (and i’m half serious on this)
and we haven’t discussed what he’d done since the ACL….

he had 17 after he was test positive

but he has started 30 games since the 06 season and has had 16.5 sacks since then

I mean, it's gotta be Channing Crowder if it's between him and Merriman...

and hopefully Channing realizes his full potential during gameday when he lines up alongside Karlos Dansby. But right now, Crowder’s a run stopper who his below average against the pass.

Merriman reminds me of Lavar Arrington.

just don’t leave the team with Farmer Fran because, “God Knows what the team is doing with just farmer fran watching over them”

Merriman would have to take Wakes spot on weak side, I would rather have Wake, and I would take Misi also,

But put Merriman on strong side and Wake on weak side and misi next to Danby well maybe.

I think for now i will keep Crowder

Move Misi to Crowder's spot?

Merriman could be decent on the strong side until Crowder can come back as the ILB, freeing Misi to move back to the OLB spot. Right now, we have no depth at OLB and if one of them gets tired, no one can sub in. I also want the void Crowder’s injury caused to be fixed, but i have to say, i don’t know if Merriman is the answer.

No

He’ll be waived by San Diego after he is healthy, which could be several weeks.

by Finhead83 on Oct 16, 2010 3:08 AM EDT up reply actions

Well they play two different positions

I say Keep Crowder and get Shawne Merriman and drop Alama Francis if this guy cant play cuz we dropped Rob Ninkovich for him who is playing decent for the Patriots at least.

But Channing needs to go on injured reserve if he cant go by week 7 or 8

The Phins organization made me unhappy by placing Will Allen who is almost healthier than Channing Crowder. Will Allen would have been nice in the slot especially against Santonio Holmes when we play the Jets again. Benny Sapp is playin decent but not superceeding Nate Jones play from last year at the nickel position

God is the reason that I live, move, breath, and have my entire being.

Someone will pick him up soon....right?

I can’t see him being left out there all year, can he? Can he play or is there a season long injury?
I’d still take him, why not. Heck we took Seau in his twilight.. Merriman can still play to a somewhat high level and we could implement him in ways to an advantage for the team..
but i doubt the team will even consider it..

I think it is worth consideration, but

I don’t know who is out on FA, since ESPN.com only has who is in their contract year this year.

I'd take Merriman if...

1) He has to clear waivers. This way we can sign him to a cheaper contract so he’s less of a risk.

2) I’d only sign him if Wake ends up struggling or is injured. We still need Misi on the other side because he’s someone I trust more in coverage. I think we’d get exposed with 2 OLBs who are primarily pass rushers, though Wake has shown some improvement in coverage. I just don’t see a ned for him.

by Finhead83 on Oct 16, 2010 3:11 AM EDT up reply actions

wake and misi are better than both
