I was one of the few who believed Vonate Davis would be a shutdown corner when we drafted him. There's no doubt in my mind that the majority of fans believed he would turn into a good corner for us. But I think it's funny how the people who believed Sean Smith was the better corner during the off-season, are all of a sudden calling Davis a "shutdown" corner and what not. It's cool that everyone believes in his shutdown abilities now but I hope it's not a case of everyone getting caught up in the moment. Jason Allen is a prime example of that.
Hell, everyone was questioning why Vonate wasn't on Braylon Edwards last Sunday. It's funny because just last year Vonate was in the same situation as Allen. When Vontae was getting schooled by Moss, people were questioning why Sean Smith wasn't covering him. With that being said I wonder what yall gonna say when Vonate makes a costly mistake...
So far opposing QBs have stayed away from #21. That tells you Vontae is doing something right to earn that respect. And I'm sure you're all wondering why he hasn't received national media attention right? Simple... He hasn't done anything worth national attention YET. Vonate's shutdown tour begins Monday night against Randy Moss (talk about national exposure). Here's the list of notable #1 receivers Vonate will face this season:
In order to be the best you got to play the best, and that's a total of 26 Pro Bowl appearances right there... let's make it happen Vonate.
