Jason Taylor wants back in Miami
According to ESPN.com, Jason Taylor would like his career to continue in Miami. I know JT is a class act and always says the right thing - but personally, this comes as a bit of a surprise to me because rumors that we have heard so far this offseason have been to the contrary. Reports I have seen up till now, have had JT landing in New England next year.
What are your thoughts? Do we cut our ties and move on? Do we rely on Free Agency and the Draft and an unproven but talented Cameron Wake?
My opinion: I think JT was an above average linebacker last year and I believe he could play at least one more year at a high level. I would ideally like to see JT in a speciality 3rd down package - possibly back on his strong side position. I think his time as an every down linebacker has fcome and gone but I know that he could provide a spark as a pass rusher. Remember, Sparano and Co have always said that you can't have too many good pass rushers. And, at the discount price we got JT last year, Taylor's locker room prescence alone would be worth the price of the minimum contract. At the same time, it is a business and I'll be interested to see what the Front Office does with him. Of course, as a die hard Dolphins fan, I would love to see JT come back and retire as a Dolphin.

I think at his price and what he gives this team its an easy decision to resign him.

The price is key
I think at this point his desire to be here outweighs the team’s desire to have him. I think that in their eyes if you can’t guarantee to be here for at least the next two seasons then they’re forced to look for alternatives. I see JT in the same boat as Ferg. Both great players and teammates but their age might be holding back the roster to a certain degree. I guess it depends on the length of the leash the have on guys like Solai, Wake, Moses and Anderson. Based on last season it was quite a short leash.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see this team take a wait and see approach and address JT after the draft.
In regards to price I’m sure JT felt he was used more than they approximated when he signed. I’m curious if he feels he should earn more knowing he might play more than expected. I’m also curious if the team feels he’s worth less based on age and production. It might be a sticking point.
Either way I don’t think our offseason will be defined by this move.

In light of the almost certain uncapped year....
it may make money less of a big deal. If I remember right, JT’s cap figure was around 1.5M for last season.
The real questions IMO are more one of where he fits in given a) what we may do in the draft & FA for LB , b) what happens with the JP drama, c) how Nolan wants to implement his scheme & who he wants playing where.

I thought he was a weak side specialist?
Where’d I get derailed? At any rate, I’d say getting him back to “his position” would make resigning him very worthwhile.

ha ha, yes he is generally weak side
but JT did pretty darn well this year as a SOLB, apparently good for 8th best among 3-4 OLB’s

My Bad
Did you see what time I made this post this morning? LOL. Mind not quite functioning yet. I’m proud that I was able to put coherent thoughts down. Thanks for the correction.

Keep him
His play last year was exceptional for the strongside. He provides veteran leadership. At the least he provides depth. Give him a raise from last year too. Cut Porter.

dont if we cut Porter now and somebody signs dont we get some type of draft pick. You know, similar to what New England does with there players and why they have so many draft choices?

I am sure that we will get a compensatory pick
But it will more than liekly be a 5th or 6th round pick.

I would love it if JT stayed. He is our version of Ray Lewis without all the intesity.
He is a great veteran leader for this team and still threat as a tackler and sacker.

keep him for 1 more year unless they think this experiment with merling at lb is going to work

I need another option
if he can match, or improve upon (not impossible) last year
Look, I want a better option as well, I want Wake to step up or get someone through FA or the draft, we need a more dynamic player at the position, but we need all the good ones we can get.
For the sake of argument, lets say Wake does step up, and is a force, that would make JT the 2nd or 3rd best OLB on our team right now, so if he wants to stay, why get rid of him, it doesn’t make sense, first you have replace the player, just sayin.
