Pat White Health Update

Today's hit on Pat White was down right scary.  The helmet-to-helmet hit left White motionless on the ground.  PFT just posted a piece with some good news.  I am still not sure why it wasn't a flag..

THE LINK

During Sunday's loss to the Steelers, rookie quarterback Pat White got his first taste of the NFL in something other than a cameo appearance, after starter Chad Henne left with an injury.

After only three drives, however, White exited the field on a stretcher, after absorbing a helmet-to-helmet hit from cornerback Ike Taylor.

Per a league source, White suffered a concussion.  He lost consciousness "for several seconds," but White is now doing "better."

White has the entire offseason to recuperate; the 30-24 loss knocked Miami out of the playoffs.

I am pretty sure the last comment about the playoffs is nothing more than a Patriot fan getting in his last jab.  This is good news!  It was scary, and I am glad he is okay.

He did play for Redskins.

If you remember back that far. He looked a little rusty. On his first two throws But he did score more in the 4th then Henne standing on the sideline with his helmet in his hand.

Yea, It was a nasty hit for sure.

How do you hit someone like that and not get a flag??

The helmet-to-helmet hit on White. No fine? No. If its Tom Brady we’d never hear the end.

Nice, maybe he'll think about converting to a WR now....

If they aren’t going to let him throw the ball down the field, he isn’t going to last long in this league. I was afraid the minute he came in.

Turns out Antwain Randle El wasn’t stupid..He converted so should Pat…

Who knows, Pat could help at WR…lol

yes it's good he'll be ok

but I think this proves he’s too small for the NFL

by NC Mike on Jan 3, 2010 7:22 PM EST reply actions

or at least too small to take on defenders head first…

by NCSAR on Jan 3, 2010 7:48 PM EST up reply actions

Nah, I think if something, the way he runs up the middle has proven that

he can do it just fine in the NFL. He doesn’t fumble and always finds a way to gain at least 5 or 6 yards plus being able to take a hit just fine. This was a whole other kind of hit. This was just unfortunate and would’ve had the same effect on 9 out of 10 players.

by MauMontaV5 on Jan 3, 2010 9:04 PM EST up reply actions

I agree that hes proven that hes tough just not sure hes the answer as a back up QB.

Maybe that can covert him to WR. I would like to see what he could do in the open field.

me too. Another option would be to play him as a Wildcat Qb-Gadget but only

if you are going to allow him to throw the ball. If not he becomes completely useless like he did this season. Every soul in the stadium knew he was going to either run up the middle or hand off the ball to Ronnie or Ricky. The first experiment against the Falcons were he barely missed Ginn on a long bomb showed a lot of promise. But then it sure seems like they gave up on the experiment.
There is a lot of people that even as of now want to defend the Pat White pick. However, I think it really takes an extremely stubborn person to not realize what the Trifecta’s bet with White was. They went all in with such a high pick and said “In 08 the Dolphins rode the Wildcat straight into the playoffs after an 1-15 season, what IF with this super wildcat addition we can freaking revolutionize this league and ride the Wildcat 2 to the Super Bowl?”. Then, first they had to face the harsh reality that White was extremely unprepared to play and throw the ball around in the NFL like he did in college, thus having to retreat into the regular wildcat again, and then when Ronnie went down they completely had to shut down the Wildcat and let Henne develop.
All in all, at the time, it sure was an extremely profitable bet if everything went right. It could’ve been huge. But unfortunately it wasn’t. Now we have to move on.

I dont know if you can use a roster spot for a just a gadget guy. If he can also catch some

passes, run some reverses, ect.. then maybe it makes sense.

I dunno

every other team seems to have a roster spot open for just a return guy. Cribbs doesn’t do much other than return kicks/punts and run gadget plays. The Steelers guy Logan, is a returner only. Reggie Bush. Since we don’t use a roster spot for a returner-only (Ginn is also a starting WR), we have a spot open for a gimmicky, spread-option QB.

Glad to hear he's ok

I figured it was a concussion, anytime you lose consciousness, you have a grade 3 concussion, so that was a given. He was moving his arms and legs afterwards, so it’s good to hear that there was no damage to the neck/spine.

Also, don’t take every single comment as a personal slight. His comment about the Dolphins being out of the playoffs was more than likely exactly what it looks like, an update on the murky AFC playoff picture.

Fair Enough

It very well could have been…lol But deep down it was probably a jab..

by NCSAR on Jan 3, 2010 9:12 PM EST reply actions

I was really disappointed at the way the Coaching Staff used Pat as a full time QB.

After he missed that short pass on a really weak throw, they made it extremely obvious that they weren’t going to throw the ball at all. Thus making the fierce-full Steeler Defense overly aggressive at stopping the run, specially White’s scrambles out of the shotgun. When Thigpen came in, it was clear that because of his NFL experience as a starter with the Chiefs, he had a much more enhanced knowledge of both the opposing defense and of the plays he was running. This was so clear that not only did he avoid a couple of sacks but was able to make a couple of good throws down the field. The rest is history for sure. But it would take a blind man not to see that Tyler was 100 times more prepared to come in to substitute Henne than White was.

At least with him there is a theat that he can compleate a pass.

Everytime he runs he scares me. He needs some off season conditioning and to bulk up. He should of been our 3rd string not second. I rather see tiggy on the spread then pat, but thats just me.

Glad to hear it wasn't as serious as it looked...

I was a big Pat White fan when he was at WVU, and I kind of hoped we took a flyer on him in the draft.

Glad to hear he is alright, it was a scary moment for everyone watching. No one wants to see anything like that happen to anyone.

Good luck in the offseason and next year Dolphins’ faithful.
