Around SBN: Shaq As Orlando Magic General Manager? Don't Bet On It

Apparently Joey Porter told a radio station in his hometown of Bakersfield, CA that he wasn't happy with his role in 2009 and he hopes he doesn't have to return to Miami.

Porter's agent is also reportedly scheduled to meet with the Dolphins this week. My thoughts? Thanks for 2008, Joey. But so long.

Somebody PLEASE get this man away from our organization

Let’s trade him for a (lower) draft pick and be done with it. Listening to him spew random crap out of his squeal hole is much more difficult when he’s not racking up 17.5 sacks a year.

It's too bad that what was going to be an acrimonious split is now being carried out in such a public fashion.

We might have gone from a 3rd round pick in a trade to a 6th. We lose leverage with potential trade partners when this sort of thing goes down. It sickened me to lose Roth the way we did with no compensation no matter what sort of lying sack of s*** he had turned into.

I've wanted to hold off a bit on my porter comments but lately...

with the increasing information on last year’s situation is is now obvious that a divorce has to (and will) happen.

Since a new CBA is unlikely (not impossible but not probable either) then there won’t be a salary cap & cutting him becomes an easier option. I’d guess as of now, that’s likely what we’ll see happen

by Natalya on Jan 26, 2010 9:49 PM EST reply actions

What if all this is B.S. and Porter comes back?

Armando has been wrong before – I’m just going to wait and see how it plays out. Porter is not the best in the world but we could use him for one more season. Either way if they got rid of him I wouldn’t shed any tears.

Well,

They probably will get rid of him, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that he said he wants out. Who knows what the true story is. I think we should let it play out before jumping all over the guy.

Hey Matty did you see Mike Beradino's article today? We can't jump the gun on this stuff - Porter MAY come back.

Porter? J-Peezy isn’t talking publicly but privately the former Pro Bowl linebacker appears to be denying ever making such comments.

Per a source from outside the Dolphins organization, Ireland has spoken this week by phone with Jeff Sperbeck, Porter’s agent. But as for some sort of high-level sitdown between the two sides, there are no indications that has happened.

“I didn’t hear the Joey stuff,” Ireland said. “There’s no transcript.”

Has Porter expressed his dissatisfaction to the Dolphins organization or made it known he doesn’t want to return for a fourth season in South Florida?

“Not to my knowledge,” Ireland said. "He may have said something to Tony, I don’t know. He hasn’t said anything to me.

Send him to Oakland for a Third Round Pick

Then send that pick and our 2nd round pick to Denver for Marshall or stock up on another potential star in the draft.

by Tunaflipper on Jan 26, 2010 11:38 PM EST up reply actions

Which Mouth?

I mean trade Porter for a 3rd. That gives us two 3rd round picks. Then trade our 2nd round pick and the 3rd round pick we aquired from Oakland (unless Denver would rather have our current 3rd round pick which is further back than Oakland’s) to Denver for Marshall.
This way, we would get Marshall and keep our current third round pick while getting rid of an aging mouth that wants to play closer to home and still has enough intangibles to warrant a third rounder. Al Davis is senile enough to give a 3rd rounder up for an aging LB that is reaching the twilight of his career. Hell, Al might give up a 2nd. He’d give up a first if Porter could run a quick forty.

tough getting draft pick(s)

for him when in march he gets a 1.2 mikl bonus and everyone knows it. it comes down to will team pay roster bonus and then trade him OR will teams just wait til he is cut then try to sign him for alot less then he is due? I doubt we get anything for him

Would Porter always line up on specific side due to him liking the side or because that side would or would not have a TE in his face? If so, assuming we keep Taylor, does anyone know what side Taylor/Wake prefer and why?

This comment and report

Lowers his trade stock. Other teams may come calling knowing he is available, but they are going to know the Fins want to unload him some where. The Phins need to do a good job setting a smoke screeen that Porter will be a Dolphin next year, and even though he wants out if there are not good bids they will keep him and control him.
