Dolphins as dazed as Tebow

Where are we? What happened? Can we take next week off and go to Disneyland instead?  After another loss to start 0-3, we have to really examine what the hell is going on.

Mistakes

It seems like the Dolphins are becoming synonymous with Murphy's Law.  Every time a opportunity comes along that could give the Fins momentum, something happens for that opportunity to be missed.

Fasano's first fumble in the red-zone in Week 1.

Ginn's incomplete passes in the end-zone in Week 2.

Ronnie's fumble on the goal line in Week 3.

Missed tackles, dropped interceptions, and unrecovered forced fumbles.

Game changing plays, all missed opportunities.

A team that set a NFL record last season for least amount of turnovers, is finding ways to turn the ball over.  While Miami lacks a corps of "playmakers" on offense, you don't have to be a Jerry Rice to not make those mistakes.

Offense

Well it looks like all the guys who wanted Henne to have the starting job are going to get their wish.  I have a bad feeling CP is done for a while, possibly the season.  Henne needs to get the jitters out this week and play better than he did today.  The timing of the receivers need to get on track and the O-Line needs to learn his snap count so we don't have anymore false starts. As the Eagles showed us it may not happen in one week, but by the second week everything can be on track.

Defense

Say what you want about the defense, the fact is they are very off-balanced.  They are great against the run and stink against the pass.  They give up huge yardage yet manage to hold opponents to FG's inside the red-zone.  Probably because there isn't huge yards to give up in those situations.  The Dolphins seem to play better when their backs to the wall, whether it be in the red-zone or down in the score.  It seems as soon as the Dolphins go ahead, the defense lets up on the very next drive and allows the points back, usually in the form of a touchdown.

Coaching

One year ago when the conservative Dolphins were 0-2, Sparano decided to give the Wildcat a go.  The result? A division championship.  I feel like Sparano, who preaches play mistake-free football to his players, is concerned about making calls that MAY lead to mistakes. Instead he and his staff makes calls that will put guaranteed points on the board.  Ronnie's fumble today may make this syndrome worse.

Wildcat - It still works.  It showed it does against Indy and it did against SD.  So why did the Dolphins use it so little against the Falcons and Chargers?

Going 3 and out after three consecutive pass plays- Why in the world would a team that is dominating the run game,  throw 3 times in a row while not in the hurry-up?  Then run it consistently WHILE in the hurry-up?

The "safe" option-  Maybe on 3rd and 23 from your own 19 yard line do you run a draw, conceding the drive and avoiding a possible pick 6.  But when you are a running team, and the defense stacks the box because they know that, maybe a pass is in order here.  Field goals are not the answer.

It was a long plane ride home last year from Arizona.  Sparano said he wanted to jump out of the plane.  With even a longer flight, there better be some parachutes onboard.  Just as they did last year on the trip, a better way to beat teams must be devised if they want to salvage any playoff hopes.  I'm not saying a new formation has to be created, but a new strategy must be developed.  This should be the loss that gets players fired up to play better.  To show we are not the NFL doormat, players must get angry.  Anger leads to hunger, and this team has to be starving for a win, I know the fans are.

dolphins........

I’ve been a dolphn fan since since 1969. and it enought to bring tears to my eyes to see how bad they play. i got to see them play once in b-more when I was much younger. this conservative play style is not cutting it. lets let the rookies play and see what happens. and this thing regarding ginn well hay if u don’t have a Qb that can toss the long ball what can u expect. so my thing is simple let the young ones play…….
