I Am Calling You Out Channing Crowder!

As a starting ILB for an NFL team, Crowder had 1 Total Tackle against the Colts.  1 Tackle for an ILB!  Are you kidding me!  That's one more than I made!  Since he has become a starting ILB in 2008, he has yet to force a fumble, sack a QB, or get an interception.  Those are impact plays that ILB should be making on a consistent basis.

Did anyone see Rey Maualuga play against the Packers on Sunday?  Let's take a look at his stat line (he comes out on passing situations):  2 solo tackles, 2 assisted tackles, 1 Sack, 2 Forced Fumbles.  In 2 games Maualuga has more sacks and forced fumbles than Crowder has had in the last 18 games.  Maybe Crowder should watch a tape of Maualuga to see how the position should be played!

But it keeps getting better.  Here is a quote from Crowder in an article on miamidolphins.com (shout out to ringtone17 for his fanshot!) about how to stop Antonio Gates this week:  http://miamidolphins.com/newsite/news/top_story.asp?contentID=6663

"Cover him!" an exasperated Crowder said. "Do y'all know what cover him means? Cover the guy. Don't let him catch the ball, okay? Tight ends can't catch the ball. That's our job, is to stop him from catching the ball."

Exactly right Channing, it is part of your job to cover the TE.  And covering the TE or RB out of the back field is something that you do horribly.  So other than talking about covering these guys, why don't you try showing us fans that you can on Sunday.

Earlier in the year we all got a kick out of the Rex Ryan / Channing Crowder war of words.  One of the quotes from Rex Ryan was "I don't know this Channing Crowder".  We thought it was funny at the time.  But let's think about it this way, why would anyone know Channing Crowder if you weren't a fan of the Dolphins?  He is a below average ILB.  He doesn't make any big plays (have you ever seen Channing Crowder on an ESPN highlight - getting burned or run over doesn't count).  He doesn't sack the QB or force fumbles or make interceptions.

They only thing I can think of that Channing Crowder does well is talk smack (and jump on the pile after the player was tackled).  But there is nothing worse than a player that talks smack and plays like shit!  So Channing Crowder, my advice to you is:  SHUT THE HELL UP

When you make a game changing play, talk all the smack you want.  Until that time, try hitting someone while they are still on their feet.  And while your at it, try getting more than 1 Tackle in a game!

yes he has been a below average player for us for a long time.. I don’t see how he got a contract extension. Or for that matter how Bell got one 2?

I’m happy to see that I’m not the only guy who sees that we need an upgrade at ILB badly

I probably know Judo! How many of you can make the same boast?

I said it before the draft that ILB was the biggest need on Defense

That is why I was crushed when Rey Maualuga was still on the board for the Phins and they didn’t take him. Akin and Channing are not the answer in the middle.

Doesn't Rey Maualuga

play in a 4-3 system. Isn’t that system designed for the MLB to make big plays? And isn’t the 3-4 desinged to push plays to the OLB’s. Just asking, it doesn’t seem like a good comparison. Not saying he is playing really well, but why not compare him to a MLB in the 3-4 system.

by phinhead on Sep 24, 2009 12:29 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

From what I saw during the Packers / GB Game

Maualuga was playing in the middle of the field. Cincy’s base defense is a 4-3 but they aligned like a 3-4 in a lot of situations, similar to what the Ravens and Patriots do.

You are right that a Maualuga / Crowder comparison might not be apples to apples. I was just impressed with the plays Maualuga was making plays all over the field (one of the forced fumbles was him leveling a RB out of the back field on a pass play). And the whole time I was watching that game I was thinking how good it would have been to see Maualuga in a Phins Jersey.

I know

If you watched the game he was playing in the middle on a 3-4 set. Like I said above, the Cincy defense is a base 4-3 but they were playing a lot of 3-4 looks and in those looks, Maualuga was in the middle.

i was very upset when we resigned him.

He is my least favorite Dolphin. He has done nothing for our team EVER. He’s a Dud.

What ILB's

are coming out in the draft this year? I know its WAY TO EARLY to ask that question, but I was just wondering.

by phinhead on Sep 24, 2009 12:38 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

It's not way too early

I just put a post identifying a few draft prospects we should keep tabs on. I have Brandon Spikes (ILB from Florida) as a player we should seriously consider.

totally agree ct

I was thinking those same things while watching the game. I also noticed he is the master of over pursuit on run plays. I don’t know how many times they showed a view from the Colts backfield on run plays, and there was Channing running right past the hole the RB was running through.

What I remember distinctly, is how far out of position Channing was on a run up the middle...

He was sooo far out, that he stuck his arm out to try something on the runner, and he didn’t even touch the guy…

With those dreds, he looks like the “Predator”… but unlike the Predator, he hasn’t jacked anyone up..!

The one tackle is kind of misleading

Indy ran 35 plays Monday night. 11 of them were runs. 1 of those scored. Crowder is not good in coverage, and we know this, so I’m not expecting any tackles on pass plays. YBell had 5 tackles. Nobody else had more than 2. Of the top 5 tacklers, 4 of them were in the secondary because Manning was throwing downfield all game long. The other guy with 2 was Langford. Porter, Ayodele, and Merling all finished with 1 tackle. JT and Fergy each finished with none.

I don’t understand why we pick and choose guys to place blame on. The whole defense sucked. All of them. If we’re still expecting Crowder to make interceptions or make big plays in the passing game, we haven’t been paying attention, just like if you expect Ginn to play like a legit “number 1 receiver.” It’s not happening. Crowder is run stopper. That’s what he does. Did he have a bad game? Yes. But let’s not expect him to have a great game against an Indianapolis team that only ran it 11 times. Check the stats, nobody in our front 7 did anything. If you’re gonna call somebody out, at least make it somebody who had the opportunity to make an impact (Gibril, I’m talking to you).

Saying all that

I would’ve LOVED to see us get Maualuga (he was available when we picked Pat White wasn’t he? ugh.) I think he’d be very good next to Crowder in the middle.

by Little Nicky 21 on Sep 24, 2009 1:40 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

there were alot of very talented guys available when we took Pat White

Guys that can actually help us NOW.. I wanted Paul Kruger OLB/DE from Utah. Basically a more athletic better motor Matt Roth. I guess i was right about him because Baltimore took Kruger and we all know how good that GM is evaluating 3-4 LB’s

I probably know Judo! How many of you can make the same boast?

Maualuga was taken with the 38th pick. White the 44th.

I wanted the phins to draft Maualuga at 25.

Hell no he's not worthy of a 1st round pick.. we should be happy with our pick

we got the best corner in the draft according to most scouts (then we took the real best corner in the late 2nd)

I don't like to single out one player whether it is in a win or a loss

and I am not saying the Crowder was the reason the phins lost to the Colts. But when I read that article on miamidolphins.com that ringtone17 listed in his fanshot, I got pissed. That combined with the fact that he had only 1 tackle in the game got me mad enough to call him out.

If you want to talk, back it up. And so far during his career, Crowder has not been able to back it up IMO.

By my count in the 1st half alone Crowder...

Wih 12min left in 2nd qtr Crowder missed a tackle on Adai who then gained 11 yards.
with something like 20secs left in 2nd qtr Brown #31 of Colts beat Crowder for a 25 yard gain.

Thats the only 2 actual plays I can recal from the 1st half that Crodwer failed on but I know there was another one in the 1st qtr as well that he got beat pretty bad.

Crowder is no elite ILB that is for sure. He needs to step up or the FO needs to start shopping for a better ILB soon.

What's the line Parcells uses "If he doesn't bite as a puppy, he don't bite"

Well Channing hasn’t “bitten” anything since we drafted him. Although he has eaten up alot of cap space

The only sure fire NFL stud linebacker that I see being in this years is Oklahoma's Travis Lewis

He’s a redshirt soph. but man he has a ton of ability. He is lighning quick with good height. He needs to put on an extra 10-15 lbs. of muscle and then I think he’d be golden

Rec'd

I agree with this article 100%. Channing needs to step his game up big time, especially with all the smack talk he does. If he doesn’t live up to his bark in the Jets game, I’m nominating Crowder to be put in the Boo Box…

… I miss Zach

I think everyone on the D needs to step up their game

But Crowder seems to talk the most and has the least results. Thanks for the rec.

What gets at me....

is that he talks like hes done something in the NFL. I like him…but his downfall is he doesnt make game changing plays…so far he hasnt made ANY plays.

Im not callin for his head…i just want some play to back up the talk….hes active nuff…just seems always late to the party.

He cant cover anyone with decent ball skills….so he better start stuffin the run and sacking ppl….as of right now hes below averge,

put it this way….whats he do when he celebrates? dunno? me neither…cuz he never does much to show us.

I hate to bash our players

but this is the guy who upsets me the most I never liked Crowder but I would back him up only because he is a fin,but anyway this is the one guy who wanted the big$$$$ and Monday’s game just showed why he really dont deserve top lb money he is not a playmaker and never will be.
