Primtime Receiver Time?

The 49ers had Jerry Rice, the Cowboys had Michael Irvin, the Broncos had Shannon Sharpe, Rod Smith, and Ed McCaffery, the Dolphins had Paul Warfield, and so on.

The bottomline is that a good team that wants to become part of NFL lore has had a great receiver, or multiple "good" receivers and tight ends. Oh, did I mention that these weapons compliment each other well, and not just have the same abilities?

We saw what happened last night. The Dolphins cannot trust Ted Ginn as their number one receiver. They also can't trust Greg Camarillo and Davone Bess either. If you have a true, proven number one receiver on the Dolphins squad, maybe you get the win last night on national television.

It just so happens that there might be a possibility of some top end receivers being available. What would you say if the Dolphins were to acquire one of these guys?

Star-divide

The guys that I am thinking of are Anquan Boldin, Brandon Marshall, and Dwayne Bowe. I have heard rumors on all of these guys, and some of them might not make as much sense as the other, but hear me out.

Boldin: I basically would give up a 2nd and a 4th for this guy. Not only would he solidify the receiving corps this year, and give us the proven, bigtime threat that we desperately need, but he would provide a true weapon for Chad Henne to utilize in the future, and make the growing pains of becoming a top-tier franchise quarterback a lot smoother. Bolding would be worth the cost, and I would make this trade in a heartbeat. The only downside is that he is older than the Trifecta usually likes their players so.......

Marshall: I would be fine with Marshall over Boldin in this situation. Despite all of the problems that he has had over in Denver, that all is a result of him wanting a new contract. If the Dolphins were to give him a new contract, which would probably be cheaper than Boldin, you would think that all of the attitude issues would be gone. Marshall may be cheaper because of his attitude problems over there. Who knows, we might be able to get him for around the same price that the Pats got Randy Moss for. Marshall is almost on the level of Boldin, you just have to give him a couple more years. He is a physical presence, and would make an impact on the offensive side of the ball for years to come.

Bowe: This one I'm not so sure about because Bowe is not yet a top-tier receiver. But give Bowe time, and he is sure to produce. You also have to give Bowe a top end quarterback, and he might also post better stats as well. Bowe is around the same age as Marshall, so I would try to get Marshall over Bowe. This trade makes sense because the general manager of the Chiefs, Scott Pioli, is related to Bill Parcells.

I would be happy getting any of these guys, but my number one choice would be Marshall. This guy is the real deal, and he is younger than 27! Bolding is on the other side of 30, and only has a couple more years left in his prime. Bowe is not  yet where I would like him to be if I were to trade some considerable draft picks for him. The bottomline is that we need a tall, physical receiver that can tear up defenses, and all of these guys fit the bill.

we don't even know if teams would be willing to trade these guys

and further more we can’t make this decision for the team and most likely the decision won’t be made by the team. So therefore I didn’t vote.

Seriously

Stop the hate on our recieving corp. Its really getting old. The fact is Bess was undrafted, Cam was yoinked for next to nothing, Fasano was had for a fourth rounder (along with Ayodele), Hartline and Turner are rooks, and say what you want about Ginn, but the man did his fair share last night. Its unbelievable how were treating him for that dropped pass at the end of the game. Did anyone else see a defender draped all over him? I did.

The point is, these guys play their hearts out and are not the reason we lost. Were mismatched last night and the playcalling at times was very odd. This isn’t a talent question. If it was we wouldnt have lost by only 4 (To manning btw whos the best in the game right now along with a top 3 te and a top 3 receiver)

It is really old

And its especially mind-boggling when you take into account that Ginn had one of his best nights of his career production wise…and yes, that last play would have been nice but I think we forget that Ginn had a few key catches on that same very drive that put CP in the position to get him in the endzone….If he would have made that catch we would all be talking about how Ginn has finally come into his own and is showing potential, but he dropped it so now hes a complete worthless piece of garbage….ridonculous

You guys need to chill...

Ginn had 11 catches for over 100+ yards. Did the fact that he missed two important cathces over shadow his great performance. Isn’t that what we want from our so-called number one receiver? What more do you want…DAMN!!!! Give the kid a fucking break. We have not had a number one since God knows when, and it doesn’t matter. We did pretty good last year with the same cast didn’t we? I guess because the defense gave up touchdown drives of 12, 30, and 40 seconds, then Ted Ginn has something to do with that too?

Of course Tom Brady has to marry someone with Giz in her name. How fitting???

Where is Oronde Gadsden when we need him?

ted ginn got those yards from throws under the prevent defense

and not thats not what i want from a number one. i love ted ginn but hes a #2 in this league and he proved it with those big drops. single coverage, against a scrub cb, ball hits both his hands you gotta catch that. #1 recievers are expected to make that catch.

Number one receivers also miss those passes...

Listen, our playcalling is more designed to run the ball, and be conservative like Firedanhenning said, which is why a Marshall, Boldin, or Bowe wouldn’t really matter here anyways. Of all three, i like Bowe the most.

Your poll headline reads " Would getting a top-end receiver be a good choice for the Phins?"

But you didnt include “NOoooo..look at the O-lines,RBs and most importantly OCs and their mentality of the greats so a great WR would do us no good!” as an option!

Its all about creating mismatches with your scheme and our present scheme creates NO mismatches so Jerry Rice wouldn’t help us one damn bit. We’ve all seen our WR’s wide open deep on countless times only to be underthrown or not even looked at at all because of either lack of time to see those routes opening up and/or those routes used strictly as decoys so Dan could try and eat up clock by using our passing game as an extension of our running game.

When Armando questioned him about his Offensive mentality he said just that and while his attitude is low risk and eats up clock it is also low reward, which is great if your team commits NO turnovers and has an awesome D but when any of those two lack then you are screwed as was seen last night.

Until we get away from an ULTRA conservative game plan,THANK GOD for David Lee,I don’t give a damn if we have Fitz,Boldin,Irvin AND Rice in their primes on the field at the same damn time we will NEVER be anything other than what we are now because CP is limited because he has no velocity on his passes and Henning put the U in ULTRA!

Also,

Until we have a QB that can consistantly deliver the ball to him down the field, then this question/post doesn’t matter anyways

Listen guys let me clarify...

I like our receiving corps just fine… I am concerned though with the lack of showing up and coming up big in the clutch. The time for bsing is long gone after last season. We cannot get by without a true number one receiver. That is just how I look at it. Sure, Ginn came up big a couple of times, but many of you are forgetting that he is more afraid of contact than we are of Rex Ryans appetite!

I would like to add a physical presence to the roster, and we may not have the quarterback to get it to him now, but what about when Henne gets in there later in the season. Our record by the BYE will determined just how soon he gets in this season. No doubt Henne will have the reigns next year unless CP10 gets us to the SB, and wins. With that being said, I would like to add one of these guys to the roster, or a true #1 really to the roster to make the transition for Henne a lot smoother, and at the point where Henne can just toss it up with confidence that his guy will catch it!

Don’t you wish we had one of those guys to depend on all the time? We cannot do the same with Ginn, Camarillo, or Bess. Sure, Cam and Bess have some pretty sticky hands, but are they dominant? No. That is my reasoning behind the post, so I guess I’m glad I could spark a debate!

the thing with draft picks is

they are not guaranteed to pan out, receivers with potential are everywhere, not hard to find you just have to be willing to give them time to develop.
so instead of giving crabtree a big contract with no proof whatsoever that he can live up to it at the nfl is not as smart as giving someone who has proved to be dominant in the nfl that contract.

Ive been on teh CP10 buss 100% but..

the last 2 games I have seen guys open for 20+ yards and CP10 just is not seeing the for whatever reason and is dumping the ball off to guys 10 yards or less.. its starting to make me wonder if we do need to start Henne sooner then later.

Now onto Ginn.. he had a really good game and YES he should have caught that ball.. it was catchable and most #1 receivers in this league would have caught that ball.. but every receiver misses a few now and then. Hopefully this is the last of the clutch catch misses we see from him.

I love Boldin but even he misses a few here and there. I still want him in teal asap though!

CP10 is the current leader of this team... respect him
Henne is the future leader of this team...

That was the most lopsided game (time of posesition), i have ever witnessed!

damn if we didn’t get beat, just like back in the middle 1900’s. the same very reason it was scrapped then, cuz if you have a qb. who can pass & you have no defence you will lose!
