How did we lose this game? ? ?

I'm at a loss for words right now .. How can you look so good and sooo bad all in the same game.  They did everything you do to win a game.  Run the ball and take it out of the one player who can beat you when he has the ball in his hands yet it still looked the same in the end >>> OUCH!!!

Star-divide

I know people want Penningtons or Ginns head on a stick right now but really is that the problem?

Was it the defense? 2 min drill? or all of the above?

I'm shocked and don't know what to think and don't think I will ever know what to think of this game ... this hurts real bad right now.  I guess I'm starting to understand how the Cardinals fans felt in the SB except this was only week 2 .. the real question will be how the players and coaches take this game and move forward ..

why don’t you go to the source then Cammueller cause they took his family and no revis. :)

Chad Pennington - The Lame Ducker aka the progress stopper.

So do you think the Jets intentionally did it to set the organization back 3 years or was it just an unintended side effect of their move.

Come on

Ginn is not the reason we lost this game. He might be the reason that we didn’t win the game….but poor coverage, crappy tackling, and conservative play calling (settling for FGs inside the 30 instead of being aggressive and going for the kill/win) when we had the opportunities for many more points and to grind the clock even more are the real reasons we lost the game!!

CP and Ginn are not the scapegoats for this week. We should never have been in that position to have to drive the 80+ yards in 3 minutes to win. Honestly if we were aggressive the score should have been more like 31-21 in our favor.

It was both the defense and the 2 min drill.

The worst 2 min drill ever.

We can defend the run but if you want to throw it to the TE then we have no plan for that sort of thing!

We need to trust

Pat has only been in the NFL for 2 games. If he was going to be such a huge instant success don’t you think that someone else would have drafted him in the first round?? Give the kid time to learn the offense, more importantly give him time to learn the speed of the game defensively!! They are just giving him little tastes here and there. I think that they should put him in for a whole series if you really want to give him some experience, then he can try the wildcat from all perspectives, running the ball himself, handing off to Ronnie or Ricky, and throwing the ball as well.

Dallas Clark?

Hes a tight end. Been to the Pro Bowl. We should’ve covered him. Crowder is a ping pong ball… He couldn’t cover a bed with a sheet.

Clark actually has never been to the Pro Bowl

the pains of playing in the same conference as Gates and Gonzalez when the Pro Bowl only takes 2 TEs.

It's not just your perceptions that can be wrong. Even your memory is often incomplete or possibly flat out wrong.

how did we lose this game

it’s called a QB people… i know most of you all are too young to remember the last time miami had one, but when you do have one you can score any time any place, no matter what the defense is and the last 13 dwarfs the fins have started aren’t what i’d call QB’s i’d want to build a team around.

you really are as dumb as a kitchen table – so i’ll make one point since you don’t seem to be able to generate any thoughts through your dense head…. but Yeas Peyton Manning is one of the BEST QB’s to every play the game of football. Yes he is right up there with Marino et. al….

and Yes INDY won the game because of Peyton Manning… anyone who says otherwise is not only stupid but they don’t knonw anythong about football.

How many are there in the NFL?

You say a QB that can score anytime, any place….who has one of those? The Patriots aren’t scoring points with Mr America Tom Brady. The Colts only scored 2 TDs last week against the JAGS. Romo is struggling…..Aaron Rodgers isn’t setting offensive records like people thought after preseason, so who does that really leave? Honestly there is one QB that fits that bill….Drew Brees. Pennington didn’t lose this game for us and it isn’t fair to think he did. Strong arms….have been a dime a dozen over the years, Russell for the Raiders has a canon but I don’t want him. Jeff George had arguably one of the strongest arms in his time and I damn sure didn’t want him. Jeff Blake….no thanks, I would take CP over any of them because he rarely makes the mistakes. That means the coaches know what they have to do to win…..and the coaches didn’t do that this week! We had no defensive scheme and we went prevent offense once we got inside the 30 yard line.

by Vanman_FishFan13 on Sep 22, 2009 12:37 PM EDT up reply actions

I remember actually being a fan of Jeff George...

… but with the non-existent o-line the Colts had at the time, I knew it was a matter of time before he was squashed…. and squashed he was when one of the Dolphins linebackers landed a hit on him by the sideline…. I think it was Cox who landed the hit (maybe Offerdall)

… and you’re right… it’s a team game…. (including coaching)

they are pretty dang rare

that’s what makes them great… I wouldn’t consider Romo an elite QB… rodger please…

Brees is making his way into that category wouldn’t you say?

and i’m not saying that pennington lost the game as much as manning won the game…. part of the reason indy was on the field so little was PM was so freakin good…

and the difference between greatness and an average NFL QB shows up in the last 5 minutes… Manning is able to force his will upon the game and pennington has to accept what the defense gives him.

by W NY Fins Fan on Sep 22, 2009 11:51 PM EDT up reply actions

My Point exactly...

Rodgers isn’t an elite, Romo isn’t…..Brady, well he was before the knee but who knows now.

Bottom line, there are really only one or two in all of the NFL.

Coaches need to scheme to their strength. You know Pennington isn’t going to kill you with 20 yard deep outs, so plan accordingly.

Your right about the refs

but Ginn should have come down with that second one in the endzone. He has to make that play and he just did not.

by texascowpunk on Sep 22, 2009 12:49 AM EDT up reply actions

I know it should have been called

but there are some big physical recievers that would have come down with it. I know thats not Ginns thing or body type but it would have been nice to see him fight through it.

by texascowpunk on Sep 22, 2009 1:06 AM EDT up reply actions

The problem is

a big physical receiver wouldn’t have been in the position to even make the catch.
I don’t think there are that many really quick physical receivers.
In any case the ref made the mistake

my observations

In all actuality, we really should have won that game. The obvious interception at the end of the first half led to an Indy field goal. DC$ should have made his field goal. Reverse those two outcomes and we would have won. That said, I renew my statement that Pat White was a complete waste of a 2nd round pick. Noodle-arm had GOT to hang it up. Opposing defenses absolutely do NOT respect his arm at all and I’m tired of seeing them stack the box. Our running game tonight was fabulous but just imagine what could have been if Indy had its safties back. Coach Sparano obviously worked on the O line this week because they looked much better. We need an inside linebacker to generate some pressure in the middle because Aiodele isn’t pulling his weight. I think the rookie CBs are going to be great but the “hard hitting” safties we have need to concentrate on tackling and not worry so much about getting the hard hit. We sooooo need a #1 receiver. Maybe after tonight’s game Parcells will actually think about Brandon Marshall. The team’s top receiver needs to try and get YAC and not fall down or go out of bounds as soon as he catches the ball. I’m tired but once again I know I’ll be awake for a while.

by NC Mike on Sep 22, 2009 12:49 AM EDT reply actions

Some points are valid

You are right about some things…and then others I don’t agree with. Wilson should have made that interception, but if we had been aggressive offensively instead of “settling for a FG” and leaving Mr. Manning 45 seconds and a time out, we might have made a first down…OR MORE if you really want to try to win, and Manning wouldn’t have gotten the ball back in the first half. That alone would have kept the score at either 13-10 or 17-10. Same thing in the second half, be more aggressive when you are at their end of the field instead of running the ball to set up the FG in the “perfect position” and we might have a had a lot more points. DC$ missed a 49 yard FG, give the guy a break. He made 3 out of 4 from 40 + yards, that’s a good enough night for me from my perspective. If the offense was more aggressive maybe he is kicking from 35 yards and closer or maybe he doesn’t even attempt them because we score TDs instead. (Novel concept I know)

Ginn…..not a bad night, but I agree, the guy falls down after he makes every catch it seems, how about giving us some YACs Ted?? Yes, the O line was much better than last week and true if we had a real number one that could make a defense play them honestly I am sure we would have had a better game running the ball.

Pat White…….give the guy more than one play every now and then to see what he can do. I think they are just letting him get to see the speed of a real game time defense so he can learn from it. I suspect that pretty soon they will have him do the wildcat for a complete series which would allow him more options than just one play evern 4 series or so. Just think then he could run the ball himself, hand it off to R & R, and throw the ball in the same series. That would force the defense to really try and figure the wildcat out.

Agree on the inside LB. Crowder is just not athletic enough and with the safety play struggling like it is, that makes the LB position even more important.
