Around SBN: Jerry Sandusky's Wife Tries To Run A Reporter Over

My Quick Thoughts After Embarrassing Loss to Colts

The OC needs to be fired.  You can not control the ball for that much time and come away with FGs.  You do not run play action under two minutes to go, down by a TD.  The Pat White plays that are being called are absolutely worthless.  Overall the play calling was subpar.  the only thing that made him look good was how well we ran the ball.

Jake Long is not a Pro Bowl OL.  He cannot handle premiere pass rushers by himself.  He has to improve his game.

The DC needs to learn how to blitz.  We cannot rely on JT and JP to be the only ones to apply pressure.  Nor can you run an all out blitz and give such a huge cushion to the receivers.  We cannot cover TEs.

Patrick Cobbs is not the answer at KR.  This guy only knows one direction returning kicks.  Forward, and that's not fast forward.  By the way Cobbs, you are not fast enough to be returning kicks from 8 yards deep in the end zone.

On a positive note, the offensive line played extremely well overall.  Dominated in the run game, and provided help and time for CP10 to make his passes.

I'm giving CP10 one more game.  I'm not saying he played badly, because he didn't.  I just feel our offense is being held back by his inability to make certain throws.

That was not an embarrassing loss.

How is not embarrassing to hold the ball for 45 min and not win?

Did you miss the stat about no team has ever won the game with a time of possession under 15 min?

Is it just me or does CP10 look really bad this season...

Just seems like all of his passes are less than 10 yards, his accuracy seems off, but now he just seems to be bad at managing the game?

is everybody forgetting how bad Henne looked in practices in the pre-season?

CP10, though he has major short-comings converted a boat-load of crucial 3rd downs

People need to stop

people need to stop defending Pennington. he did nothing to help win this game,…Yea i know Ginn dropped that pass, but even if he catches it, it doesnt change the fact that pennington’s time at QB are coming to an end….He does nothing to lose it, but doesnt do anything to win either, and dont give me that no mistakes cr@p, I rather have Henne making mistakes….

on another note, our LB’s and Safety’s cant cover a TE to save their lives!!!!

On another side note, Sean Smith played fantastic.

For those who criticize Jake Long, his issues seem to be on leverage and footwork, which are very much correctable…other than that he did a solid job for the most part, especially late in the game on one-on-one situations…

O line is meshing pretty well…

This wasnt the offenses fault

The D buckled when we needed them to stand. they can not have the ball for 15 mins and score 27 pts, thats what needs to be fixed, othe r than that i feel like we played a great game.

People need to stop

I totally agree with your comments, you can’t win by throwing for 5 and 10 yards, and yes our secondary sucks bad.

But the thing is we could have won that game

if the defense played better. We should have won that game. I refuse to believe we lost because of our offense. Sure, its more ideal to throw for more yards but we could have won with that awesome running game tonight, our d buckled

by Ham420 on Sep 22, 2009 12:13 AM EDT up reply actions

Yes they did. It was absolute garbage

We really did play awesome on offense, thats how you win games, pound the ball and run the clock but our deee just didnt show. ugh, dissapointing

by Ham420 on Sep 22, 2009 12:21 AM EDT up reply actions

I know.

But that 2 min. offense is assinine and there is no way that a team should be able to score 27 points when they had the ball less than 15 min of the game. WTF?

by texascowpunk on Sep 22, 2009 12:25 AM EDT up reply actions

Teams don't win scoring FG after FG.

I agree with you our D played absolutely horribly. But I also believe we gotta score TDs if we ever want to be successful in this league.

by luvs2drnk on Sep 22, 2009 10:50 AM EDT up reply actions

Rather gain Yards rushing

I guess I would disagree, i was happy with the rushing yards but I was disappointed with the play calling. There were several situations where we had it 2nd and 2, 3, or 4 and those were the times that the OC should have tried attacking the Colts secondary a bit harder. They were moving up to try and stuff the run and that was when they should have tried throwing the ball.

I personally love physically dominating a game with a power rushing game that just breaks the will of the defense, like we were doing……until we got to the Colts 30 yard line. Then we were just happy to be in scoring position.

Sure I would love to have a QB with an arm like Manning, Warner, Brees, or Cutler but we don’t and I don’t trust Henne’s decision making or his accuracy at this point. Go back and look at the game and tell me when there was a 3rd down and 5 to 8 yards where Pennington didn’t convert. Pennington wasn’t the reason we lost the game folks, poor defense and bad coaching, play calling and clock management is the reason.

Sean Smith was good because he had safety help all game long.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but it’s true. Even Manning acknowlegded it in the post game interview.

by luvs2drnk on Sep 22, 2009 10:51 AM EDT up reply actions

An edge?

Gotta say Ronnie looked strong and seemed to be running a bit more decisively than normal. I would say that he was running with an attitude or an edge which is nice to see. Not to mention the O-line looked great and appeared to be aggressive and looking for someone to punch in the mouth. I love that attitude in my big uglies!!

Disagree

We have a good offensive coordinator. I remember when we really had a conservative offense a few years ago. At least now we have somebody who is willing to get creative and try his best to get an explosion out of this offense. Even though the Pat White plays haven’t worked, it still gives the defense something else to worry about. AND THE WILDCAT STILL WORKS. ITS NOT GOING ANYWHERE AND IM GLAD.

Pennington could have been better but Chad Henne has proven NOTHING. He was crap during preseason, Pennington is the best bet we have for now.

Pennington and ted Ginn were able to covert a bunch of crucial first downs. Get off there case, they didn’t cost us the game, the defense did. We need to figure out better ways of blitzing because I know we have the potential to get a lot more pressure on the quarterback.

But I do agree that Cobbs is not a return man. He is just not explosive enough. Why can’t Ginn do it? I don’t understand that.

Creativity is knowing how to hide your sources.

First off

It was QB coach Lee who came up with us using the wildcat, not the OC. The play calling during the 2 min drill was absolutely inexcusable, 3 running plays? Really? I’m not blaming the loss on Pennington or Ginn. I thought they both played well. I just feel CP10 is holding our offense back from really being able to open up. When you run the ball for 230 yards, I guarantee the deep pass is open.

Pay me millions to study film and game plan...

And I promise you… I will not run a draw on 3rd and 6 with 4 mins left with the game tied ESPECIALLY with P.Manning on the other side!

The D calls were bad. We used a DIME against Peyton Manning in the 4th quarter. YOU CANT DO THAT. RETARDED.

But it doesnt mean the entire gameplan was shit. Andwhats really amusing to me is fans, yes fans, who think they can coach better than proven nfl assistants. Very amusing

Just because you’re an assisstant in the NFL doesn’t mean you know what you’re doing. It’s because someone else thought you knew what you were doing.

by luvs2drnk on Sep 22, 2009 10:59 AM EDT up reply actions

Did they ever stop a 3rd and short pass?

I think Pennington converted on every 3rd down pass play he had that was managable (3rd and less than 8). If you really pay attention, ever run that the dolphins ran on third down in the colts territory was right to the center of the field so as to line up the “perfect FG”. My bitch about the play calling is why aren’t you trying to get the first down, grind the clock even more on an already dead ass tired defense and score a freaking TD??

by Vanman_FishFan13 on Sep 22, 2009 1:43 PM EDT up reply actions

to be honest

we should have won that game because:
1. Indy should not have been given the ball back after the clear interception that led to an Indy field goal at the end of the first half
2. DC$ should have made the field goal he missed

to those that say the defense broke

What killed us again is an offensive TE, we dont have anyone to cover those kind of TE’s. Dallas Clark was about 80% of the Colts passing game….

by daphinatic on Sep 22, 2009 12:20 AM EDT reply actions

I don't understand all of you.

First we played an exceptional game against one of the ELITE teams in all of football. 2nd, Did any of you realistically think the dolphins would have won this game? This team poured their hearts out tonight in one of the best dolphin games I have seen in a long time. Everyone fails to realize this is our 2ND YEAR OF REBUILDinG!!!! We are not playoff contenders and you all should start being realistic.!!

by Wallace758 on Sep 22, 2009 12:20 AM EDT reply actions

The Colts are not Elite.

They almost lost to the Jags who have been giving games away. The Dolphins had this game won until they got comfortable kicking FG’s. We won our division last year. How long do you want to rebuild for?

by BroJ on Sep 22, 2009 12:25 AM EDT up reply actions

We should have won the game

Doesn’t matter if we thought we would win the game…..the Dolphins were in position starting at the end of the second quarter to completely take over the game. Instead we allowed the Colts back in the game instead of trying to impose our will even more! More aggressive O calling and better defensive play and we would have one that game! The Colts wouldn’t have been in position to win the game at all!

from what I saw tonite the wildcat is really not that special

and honestly I don’t think Pennington likes running it. A quaterback needs to gain rhythm and momentium and taking him out everytime he completes a pass is not going to do that.

Didn’t seem like the wildcat caused Pennington to lose his effectiveness. He completed 22 out of 32 passes, including 4 dropped balls. Sure he can’t throw deep like Manning or Cutler but he didn’t lose the game for the Phins.

yeah but

we should be able to gain those yards using a based offense and not relying on a gimmick play.

by truphinatic29 on Sep 22, 2009 12:23 AM EDT reply actions

Its not a gmmick play...there are gimmick wrinkles but for the most part

its snap it to ronnie and pound it down the middle…and who cares if we do back flips over the offense standing in a straight line or run it in base formation, idc…as long as it wins us games, which this ALMOST did tonight

by Ham420 on Sep 22, 2009 12:25 AM EDT up reply actions

Not a Gimmick

It forces the Defense to play a scheme it isn’t comfortable and might not be able to match up well with. When it comes to running the ball, the wildcat gives the Offense a one man advantage.

wat gets me really pissed...

is this notion that we are going to win games taking 4 FG’s a game, play calling needs to be much more aggressive than being happy with 45-50 yd FG’s…completely lame

by daphinatic on Sep 22, 2009 12:32 AM EDT reply actions

Agree for the most part luvs2drnk

The OC should take the most criticism, followed closely by the whole defense for poor tackling, and poor play all together. The Dolphins don’t have the fire power on offense that a lot of teams have so we need to attack every opportunity that we get….not settle for FGs, especially against premier offenses and QBs. That game plan might have worked against the Jags, Redskins, Lions, Bills or Browns, but not against teams that can score.

Agree that Jake needs to play better but his play was a non factor last night. The O-line was great running the ball and very good in pass protection. Ricky, Ronnie, and Cobbs were all running the ball extremely hard.
CP isn’t to blame at all for this game. Sure I would love to have a QB that can throw the 20 yard deep out or the deep post but the fact is we don’t have the receivers to do that as it is. CP is a good QB for the receivers that we have. The passing game wasn’t the issue at all last night. I do feel that we need to take a few more shots downfield, especially on 2nd and 3, or 4.

by Vanman_FishFan13 on Sep 22, 2009 10:45 AM EDT reply actions

We actually do have the receivers for that.

Ginn can run the posts and go routes. Bess has the quickness for the deep out routes. But that’s not the only thing I’m talking about. There are plenty of other throws he just cannot make. Like trying to thread a pass in between defenders 20 yards downfield. He just doesn’t have the arm strength to throw that kind of pass. And the result is too many 3-5 yard passes, and too many FGs.

by luvs2drnk on Sep 22, 2009 11:05 AM EDT up reply actions

Sure

But not having that isn’t what is keeping us from winning. Ginn can run some of those routes but most of the times our receivers can’t get seperation. We rely on finding seems in the zone and soft spots. That’s why most games Ginn appears covered all the time. Pennington doesn’t have the cannon we would like but he can make the throws that we tend to use with our personnel. Bess is a slot guy like Welker. Camarillo finds the soft spots. Hartline looks like is one of the better route runners on the team.
