A Quick Question

Sup people i got a question about the controversial Chad Pennington.

Is it just me or is this guy scared to take a hit? I know a lot of people said the o-line played bad which is partly true, but did anyone notice that whenever a defender came within a yard of pennington he always crawls down into a fetal position. I mean i understand you dont want to turn the ball over but seeing how bad we are on 3rd and longs you have to make a play. i know hes not ben rothlesburger but if theres nobody wideopen penny looks scared to make the throw. for example look at the hated Tom Brady. dude stands in the pocket, throws the ball, and takes the hit, thats how u get big plays.

your thoughts? dont be afraid to criticize my points im open 4 debate

def blame o line

cp10=21 of 29. hurried 13 times, sacked 4, intercepted 1, fumble lost 1. with his completion percentage, he was doing his part. the other stats gotta get put on the oline. and as far as him curling up like a fried shrimp…..i have mixed feelings. yes we need him to stay healthy, but not at the cost of being a pu-nany. it does seem that he gets a little timid in games like the one in atlanta. can you blame him…yes and no, like i said mixed feelings.

it IS still impressive

its 8.3 yards per attempt. if he can consistently get 8 yards, that equals first downs. you can only do so much under pressure, and if you ask me, with the shit cp10 had to deal with last week, 21 of 29 for 176 yards is phenomenal

um u might need to brush up on ur math a bit

and the main problems was he wouldnt even attempt some of the passes

i said “i know hes not ben rothlesburger” but still doesnt mean if its like 3rd and 5 you just give up on the play if they decide to blitz

Its so the O lines fault.

The way the O line played last week would have made most QB’s look like crap.

by texascowpunk on Sep 16, 2009 7:39 PM EDT reply actions

there were a lot of plays

where cp10 was able to scan downfield, nothin open and if there was no back he would just stand there or curl up
is it because our recievers cant get open even against atlanta’s secondary?
is cp10 not willing to take chance to make big plays?

There were plays where recievers were

definately wide open. I think some of it mayfall on cp10 but for the most part if he does not have time to go through his progressions he will never see them.

by texascowpunk on Sep 16, 2009 7:51 PM EDT reply actions

he had enough time on most plays

he looked downfield, there was a play where they zoomed in on his face, he scanned the field nothin open, then pocket collapsed. protection wasnt great but it wasnt horrible either. they gave him a good 3-5 secs on all but like 2 plays

Hmmm

Now your going to make me go back and watch the whole game over yet again. I sure seemed to me as if he was rushed a good portion of the day. To qoute Matty “Chad Pennington dropped back 33 times – and was sacked four times, hit four times, and hurried 13 more times. That’s 21 of 33 drop backs in which CP was under immense pressure.” Thats not having enough time on “most plays”. Were there plays that he could have made better decisions on? Sure!

by texascowpunk on Sep 16, 2009 8:22 PM EDT up reply actions

wow those stats tell a different story than what i remember

a question whats the difference between hurried and hit?
and where can i get these stats to compare with others?

nope

they aren’t official stats….u can get “hits” in the NFL.com gamebook that is available an hour or so after the game as a .pdf file. Hurries I got from one of the Dolphins papers – i forget which one.

I knew they were not official stats

so I will contunue to stick with Mattys unofficial stats!

by texascowpunk on Sep 16, 2009 9:40 PM EDT up reply actions

so are you sure those can be added together

because to me it seems like hits is categorized under hurries.

Nothing wrong with bringing up Beck..

I mean.. why would that be pointless if it is someones opinion? I would think that if someone wants to state their opinion and use anyone weather it be Beck, Marino, Porter, JT, or any other player as a reference point it shouldnt be frowned apon.

I kinda get a chuckle when Beck is brought up.. usually. :)

let me clarify,

ive been noticing that he goes into the fetal position at even the slightest sign of pressure since last year. i guess it was a good thing last year (best turnover differential). but at the end of the day, when your behind and you need a big play… IMO you have to take some chances for your team. were gonna need some big plays from the qb position if we want to return to the playoffs with this schedule

There may be something to that.

I know there’s a fine line between taking unnecessary hits and taking the hit to complete the big pass. But guys like Ben R. that always seems to take the hit is not going to last long if he continues to play like that. They are all one big hit away from the season or the career being over. I CP10s case I have not really seen that he seems hesitant but I have noticed a lot of people have pointed that out so I will be watching for it in the future.

O-Line

I think you see it in a lot of QB’s. This O-line has to take most of the blame though. That’s why i think you have Qbs now days either run for their life or take the shot. It’s fight or flight. I think Maine might be right when your best guy gets beat by their best guy. You know your in for a long night.

by FinFanFromCA on Sep 17, 2009 1:56 AM EDT reply actions

Of course Cp was rattled... He is getting hit from his blind side

That is why LT is the most important position on the line. The QB can usually see the pressure when it comes right in front of him and from the right.. Then he can make a play or just get rid of it. The Qb has no idea what’s happening with his backside so he has to trust that his LT will keep him protected. That didn’t happen so CP was nervous and it showed in his game

I probably know Judo! How many of you can make the same boast?

by Souwantmyname on Sep 17, 2009 2:49 PM EDT reply actions

I thought he had held the ball for too long on the occasion he had good protection

whether thats because no one was open or because he was simply hesitant to throw down field is anyone’s guess.

he doesn’t seem to throw the ball down the field unless the game is on the line

it is a blessing and a curse

he lets us methodically move down the field and chew up clock, giving our defense a break. BUT lets the defense stack the box because they aren’t afrai of being beat deep. Yes i know about CP10’s arm
