Around SBN: Jeremy Lin And How The Pac-12 Missed Him

AFC East is a powerhouse.

I may get some flack here, but The Dolphins are clearly at the bottom of the division after Week 1.  I'm not saying this can't change, but watching The Bills put The Pats up against the ropes for 3.5 quarters made it seem obvious.  This isn't a bad thing as I do think we are going to finish very strong once Grove/Shawn Murphy and Grove/Donald Thomas gel a bit more, but we are going to be chasing The Jets, The Patriots and quite possibly The Bills for the rest of the season.

I, for one, would rather play in a strong division and have a shot at the playoffs than mop up an easy division and coast into January.  Playing against 3 great teams will help us in the long run, both developmentally and by better results when we do play the great teams in January.

I am excited to watch this season pan out.

Woah, one game and you’re already giving us some respect!? We didn’t even win!

No you didn't,

but you guys played a lot better than many of us probably thought you would. Not just against the vaunted Pats offense either, your guys looked sharp and made some great plays, kickoff return fumble aside.

I agree, and don’t get me wrong, it’s nice to hear. But this is something Bills fans have been kind of expecting – everyone thought our OL would be worse then we thought, our offense worse then we thought, etc. I’m just surprised to see such a turnaround in outside opinion so quickly. It could still have been just one good game.

True

but it’s still giving respect for your guys getting it together and playing tough and well against a very tough team, and divisional rival to boot. I’m not saying that they are going to play like that all year, like you said, it could just have been one good game, but they did play great in that game.

Yeah, it was definitely at least minorly comforting that we played so well – that win would have been huge though.

yeah,definitely .....

some good play from afc east teams and for sure the Phins are at the bottom of week one…Yes, I hope for a turnaround, yes,I will always be a Phin fan, and yes,we will be more competetive in weeks to come, but without a team effort, we may be making it tougher than it needs to be….you cant swim with sharks if you dont get in the tank….Fins…

Your post kinda reminds me of the late 70's and most of the 80's.....

Everyone feared playing the AFC East..!

While I like the way you’re thinking, I can’t, (with one game week done), give any team (except one or two) much credence just yet.
The Patriots, tho they won, have much to improve on their defense.
The Bills, tho they showed the Patriots something, still have T. Edwards at the Helm.
The Jets, tho they were fiesty against the Texans, still have a rookie QB and their defense is not at full strength yet.
The Dolphins, beloved, played no where near their aptitutde.

It’s Tuesday, so perspective is setting in for me… emotions quelled and reality is getting back in focus. With that, I can’t see anything changing in the power rankings in the AFC East, until mid to end of Oct… at the earliest.

While I certainly don’t think the Dolphins are at the bottom, I also do not think the Patriots are at the top. So since nothing has happened so drastically to change the order of power coming into the season, I still rank this division as:

Dolphins #1 (AFC Champions)
Patriots #2 (Runner ups)
Jets #3 (Improving)
Bills #4 (No Changes)

Did you watch the game? Edwards looked awesome – and had a passer rating over 110. If anything he would be a positive, not a negative for the Bills.

Edwards looked like a pro-bowler last night.

He was calm and confident in the pocket and scrambled well when the situation dictated it.

I disagree Alpha,

Trent Edwards was unbelievable. He is extremely smart (Stanford), he takes care of the ball, he makes all the right decisions, he keeps drives going with his feet, he spreads the ball really well and he has all the physical tools. We would be lucky to have 90% of what they have in Edwards with Chad Henne.

by MauMontaV5 on Sep 15, 2009 3:31 PM EDT up reply actions

Well, only if Edwards can maintain the kind of play we saw last night.

what i saw from other afc teams....

i didnt see from the Phins(as much as it hurts to say)..But, good passing game, good running game, good 0-lines..etc…way more explosive/hungry than the Phins…Almost hate to print it, cuz then other teams fans read it and say…yeah baby….but I do hope this is just a first week blunder for us and a first week wonder for all those teams….

one loss isnt bad, but if we didnt turn the ball over we wouldve scored much me points.

although i feel like we didnt deserve to win that game, there weretimes where we looked like a really really great team
